Story
Meet Shirl Shirl. If you can believe it, she is even cuter in person. Her story absolutely broke our hearts and we promised her that we would find a quiet, animal and children free foster or forever home as fast as possible. She is a 12 year old, female, micro Bully mixed breed. She came in as an owner surrender and we believe she was previously used by a backyard breeder. Shirl needs some medical TLC to address skin, eye, and ear issues. She also needs to be spayed. The amazing team at We're Here for The Dogs helped us raise $1,000 to address those concerns. We would love Shirl to recover and decompress outside of the rescue. We know a home without other animals or children will be harder to find so we really need your help. This sweet senior deserves to feel safe, healthy, and pain free in her golden years. Despite all that she has been through, she is still a very sweet dog with a lot of love to give. Stop in during adoption hours to meet Shirl if you fit the requirements she has for a foster or forever home. *PLEASE NOTE: DUE TO STRINGENT OUT OF STATE HEALTH CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS WE ARE NOW ONLY ADOPTING TO RHODE ISLAND RESIDENTS*. We apologize for the inconvenience. HOW TO GO ABOUT ADOPTING: 1. Come in during adoption hours to apply and full out an application completely. We have applications on site. Open adoption hours take place at 44 Worthington Road in Cranston, RI. We are open every Wednesday 3-7pm and Saturday 10am-2pm. 2. Story
Meet Howie, a friendly and playful young dog who would make a great companion. This boy was found as a stray and never claimed. He is very affectionate and gentle and loves to be with his people. His current foster home has a teenager, who has friends in and out of the house and Howie has been friendly with everyone he meets.Howie gets along with other dogs, he likes to be, inside and outside with his foster family dogs. A home with another dog for him to have a playmate would be awesome. He does want to chase the neighborhood cats, so no felines for him.Howie sleeps in his crate at night and when his foster is away form home he crates well then too. He is mostly housetrained, but still has an occasional accident, he will catch on to the routine. He goes on walks during the day and is working on his leash manners, still pulling a bit when he walks, but is getting better everyday. He is a very smart dog who is easy to train and responds well to positive reinforcement.Howie loves to play and run around and he's always up for an adventure. He's a great dog for people who love to stay active and spend lots of time outdoors. If you're looking for a best friend who will stick with you through thick and thin, look no further than Howie.Name: HowieBreed: Bull Terrier/CrossbreedSex: MaleAge: 11 months  (estimated as of 4/21/25)Weight: 46.0 as of 4/21/25Spayed/Neutered: YesVaccinations: Up to dateHeartworm: Negative on recent testingMicrochipped: YesBASED ON OUR OBSERVATIONS:Good with Children: Over 12Good with Dogs: YesGood with Cats: NoAdoption Fee: $600.00  (includes transport fee when applicable)Location of dog currently:    Tennessee  IMPORTANT INFORMATION - Paws New England is a foster-based rescue; our dogs reside in various locations throughout the south & New England.  Adoption donations cover pre-adoption vet costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter when age appropriate, and heartworm testing/treatment when necessary), a microchip, and transportation to New England if necessary.Donations for our young, healthy puppies and dogs support their fellow canines of advanced age or suffering from injuries and abuse whose donations are reduced but whose veterinary costs are typically much higher. Story
If you would like to apply to take CANELA DIMONE/courtesy post home, click the link next to their picture, or Visit our website at Www.godogsgorescue.org and fill out an application! We look forward to hearing from you. Canela Simone is a female spayed Boxer/Pitty Mix. Her doctor estimated her birthday as 3/2021 based on her size and dentition at her first few appointments. She currently lives in Western Massachusetts as a single pup with me. She is good with people, although sometimes it can take her a moment to warm up to groups that include tall men. She is very excitable when she meets new people and can forget her manners and try to jump up. She is very responsive to "four on the floor"/redirection with treats. She loves spending time with the neighbors' kids (ranging in age from 3 - 10), and does better with not jumping when around smaller humans. She is very partial to face kisses. She has not been around very many cats. The few cats she's spent time with have been for brief periods and she is too interested in them. She acts the same way with stray cats as she does with squirrels and birds, so I do not and would not trust her to live with cats. She has spent a lot of time around other dogs and enjoys them. Generally, she gets along better with male dogs that are her age and younger. She's been attacked at the dog park by two separate female dogs. So, we no longer go to the dog park and she no longer spends time with female dogs (with exceptions for female dogs with owners that I know well). When she is around male dogs she does well and is incredibly playful. She is very rambunctious and likes to roughhouse, so she would do well either as an only dog with a select group of friends or in a house with another young dog that really likes to play. I added two pictures with some of her dog friends. Canela has a few chronic illnesses (skin allergies, IBD, an immune disorder) that are being well managed by her primary vet and her internal medicine specialist. She's very much a happy, healthy girl - as long as she takes her meds and eats her prescription diet. If she eats too many foods/treats that aren't prescribed, she'll have GI issues. If she stops her meds, she'll deal with skin itching and irritation. Additionally, without her meds she'll have episodes of high fevers and lethargy. She hasn't had a full episode in almost 2 years, since she started taking Prednisone. Her only mini episode happened when we tried to taper her down to see if she could handle a lower dose; she could not. She was back to normal within hours of resuming her normal dose and she's been just fine since. She gets her oral medications mixed directly into her food (and eats with no complaints). She also receives one subcutaneous injection a week (this is done at home while she's eating, and she's perfect for it).
