- Loves going on walks and does best with a harness- Knows sit and likes treats, so he'd be a lot of fun to train - Has been very good for baths here in the shelter - Tends to be introverted around other dogs and may prefer one-on-one interactions or smaller groups of dog friends; may not be comfortable in places where there are a lot of dogs and may prefer to be the only dog in his home (dog intro required) - Looking for a teens-and-up home right now- We don't know his history with cats - May have allergies (more info at ARL) This pet qualifies for our 7-day Foster-to-Adopt program. If you're interested in fostering to adopt, please reach out to meetme@arl-iowa.org.All adoptable dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and DA2PPV as appropriate for their age)The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. Achilles is a friendly young Bullmastiff (born 2021) looking for a family who has experience training dogs and is willing to help him overcome his reactivity and resource guarding.  He would be fine with other cats or dogs if they're non-reactive. He loves people and would do well with older children (age 10+).   Achilles may be destructive when left alone, but he is crate trained.   His new home will need a fenced yard at least 6 ft. high. Achilles would prefer not to share his toys and he will need his own personal meal spot for dining so he knows he doesn't have to share his food.  Achilles is mostly potty trained and will let you know that he needs to go out to go potty by vocalizing and pawing at the door. Achilles lives with Boomer now and it would be preferable if Boomer and Achilles are adopted together.  It is possible they could be separated. The suggested adoption donation for Achilles is $375, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training). Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Adoption fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals. In 2022 alone, we provided animal Healthcare totaling over $399,000 covered mainly through adoption fees.   Please Note:  A Courtesy Post designates that an animal is still in the home of its owner and not in a Muddy Paws foster. This means that our exposure to the animal is limited since we only assist the owner in finding a new home for their pet. From time to time, owners find a new furever home for their pets outside of Muddy Paws Last Chance Rescue, and there is a delay in removing them from our site. We apologize if the Courtesy Post you apply to adopt is unavailable for adoption.   Information about the adoption process: All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application has completed our prescreen steps, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver. Please Note: We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks, and a Home Visit (Virtual in some cases) during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each animal, based on the animal’s needs.
