Story
- A real people dog who just wants to love and be loved; spent some time in a foster home and was his family's little shadow- Loves butt scratches, belly rubs, and comfy places to chill; LOVES a good nap and sleeps in all sorts of silly positions - Can be a total goofball when in a playful mood and loves to run around with you or his toys, but when he's done he will plop down for a nice nap or some cuddle time - Especially enjoys playing with stuffies and Kongs - Will sometimes get excited when meeting new people and make a grumbly noise to signal that he wants some attention - Loves playing in the yard and loves walks; his foster family said when he was in a curious mood he would pull a bit, but other than that did a great job walking, harness or not - he even went on a short run with a family member while in his foster home- Knows sit, stay, shake, down and come and is VERY treat-motivated; could probably learn anything with treats as rewards- Overall has a good handle on potty training; had a couple accidents in his foster home, but that's not unusual for any dog when adjusting to a new setting or schedule, so please plan to give him time to acclimate- When his foster family left, he would just relax on the couch or his bed and wait for them to come back - Has done great in the car and just lays down or sticks his head out the window - Overall has been very uncomfortable around other dogs in the shelter environment and has struggled with direct interaction and gone out of his way to avoid other dogs; he did meet a shy small dog while in his foster home, and they both sniffed and then ignored each other, but dogs who want to interact make him incredibly uncomfortable; to set him up for success, he needs to be the only dog in his new home, and he is likely not a candidate for places like dog parks or dog-friendly events - Needs a home with no cats or small animals - Young, busy or active kids can be too much for him, so he's looking for a teens-and-up home right now - Has a chronic ear condition that may require medication or monitoring in the future; may also have allergies (more info at ARL) This pet qualifies for our 7-day Foster-to-Adopt program. If you're interested in fostering to adopt, please reach out to meetme@arl-iowa.org.All adoptable dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and DA2PPV as appropriate for their age)The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label. Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Weight: 77.5 Age: 3yrs 7mths 3wks

Story
Finn may look like a rockstar with his striking Mastiff–Shepherd good looks, but at heart, he’s a big, soft lovebug. Weighing in at about 60 pounds, Finn has grown into a handsome boy with a beautiful gray and tan coat, soulful eyes, and an even bigger personality. Despite his star-quality appearance, Finn is more of a laid-back, easygoing guy—think Eeyore vibes, but with engines revved and ready to love. From the moment he wakes up, he’s prepared to shower his people with affection… and trust us, it’s A LOT of love! Finn does well with other dogs and does need a slow, proper introductions to new friends—both two-legged and four-legged. Once he knows you, he loves you deeply. He’s happiest when he has a buddy (human or canine) to share his world with. Affection is Finn’s specialty. When someone comes to greet him, he lights up, runs over with enthusiasm, and hands out slobbery kisses and big hugs like they’re backstage passes. His joy is genuine, his heart is huge, and he’s always thrilled to see his people. If you’re looking for a big, lovable, slightly goofy rockstar who will adore you endlessly, Finn is ready to take center stage in your heart. Local adoption only $200 (in TX)

Story
Hi, I’m Luke, and I’m a big, lovable boy tipping the scales at just over 100 lbs! Don’t let my size fool you—I’m a happy, easygoing pup who just wants to play, explore, and cuddle. I’m all about the good things in life: squeaky toys, water play, long walks, and best of all—snuggle time on the couch. I’m a pro at giving hugs (though I’m working on not jumping up too hard to give them—oops!). I get along great with other dogs and kids, but because of my size and enthusiasm, I’d do best with older children who won’t get accidentally knocked over during playtime. I’m crate trained, housebroken, and walk nicely on a leash—unless there’s a squirrel… then it’s game on! I do have a slight prey drive, so a little guidance goes a long way. If you’re looking for a big-hearted, playful companion to fill your home with love (and maybe take up some space on your couch), I’m your guy. Let’s make forever happen! 🐾 Local adoption fee is $200(in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $450 (includes transport to your area)
