Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption fee: $650 Meet Count Chocula, a 7–9 month old, 13-pound Terrier mix who arrived at DPS from the shelter and immediately proved himself to be a total sweetheart. From the moment his foster picked him up, his tail was already wagging and his charming little face was ready to win hearts. With his expressive puppy-dog eyes, floppy ears, tiny gray beard, and a tuft of hair that gives him the look of a miniature wizard, Count Chocula is equal parts adorable, affectionate, and entertaining.   Chocula starts his day whenever his person wakes up, and he strongly believes mornings should begin with cuddles and kisses. After a snuggle session, he heads out for a longer morning walk before coming home for breakfast. Mealtimes are very important to him— he especially dislikes feeling left out of family meals and likes to be part of the action. After breakfast, he’s ready for a little playtime with his favorite toys before settling in for a nap at his foster’s feet while the workday begins.   Throughout the day he enjoys a short lunchtime stroll and another walk in the afternoon. Between outings he’s content to lounge nearby, keeping an eye on things or sunbathing by the window while he watches birds and listens to the world outside. In the evenings he relaxes with his people before heading to bed— preferably in bed with his human, where he typically starts out close and gradually migrates toward the foot of the bed. His sleeping style is just as cute as everything else about him: he often snoozes belly-up with his paws in the air.   From the very beginning, Chocula showed how friendly and easygoing he is. He explored his foster home confidently, followed his person from room to room, and quickly claimed a spot on the couch for snuggles. While he was a bit quiet for the first few days as he settled in, he was always affectionate and eager to connect. He does just fine riding in the car and enjoys going on adventures.   As he’s grown more comfortable, Chocula’s playful and hilarious personality has really blossomed. He’s a smart little guy who loves learning new tricks and proudly shows off his skills. He already knows how to sit, lie down, and spin, and performs each trick with a deliberate confidence that clearly says he knows he’s doing a great job—especially when treats are involved.   Playtime is another favorite activity. Chocula loves chasing balls or playing with plush toys and will happily do zoomies around the room before bringing the toy back for another round. He’s the perfect mix of playful and relaxed: he goes all-in when it’s time for fun, then happily curls up to rest afterward.   Walks are one of the highlights of his day. When it’s time to head out, he gets adorably wiggly while practicing his “sit and stay” so the leash can be attached. Once outside, he likes to start with some serious sniffing before settling into a confident, brisk walk. When he’s satisfied his curiosity, he walks beautifully alongside his person, head up, tail wagging, ears bouncing with every step. People passing by can’t help but smile at his proud little strut. If the pace gets too slow, though, he may zig-zag in front or stop frequently to investigate—he prefers a purposeful walk.   Chocula is very social and would love to make friends wherever he goes. He gets excited when he sees other dogs, people, squirrels, or birds and may stop to watch them closely. He’s particularly fascinated by kids and enjoys meeting dogs of all sizes. Because he’s still in his enthusiastic puppy stage, he tends to greet other dogs with lots of energy, so he would do best with canine companions who are comfortable with a playful, outgoing personality.   At home, Chocula is mostly house-trained and prefers to do his business outside when he gets regular walks. If the patio door is open, he’s happy to head out on his own. On the rare occasion he needs to go inside, he uses a potty pad. Like many young dogs, he can chew when he’s bored, so providing plenty of appropriate toys— especially softer ones—is important.   Because he loves being around people so much, Chocula can feel a little anxious if left completely alone for long stretches. However, he does just fine when someone else is around, and he’s been making great progress with gradual practice. A home with another playful dog or a family with kids would likely be a great match for him, since having company helps keep his mind busy and his confidence high.   The ideal home for Count Chocula is one that appreciates his joyful spirit, enjoys plenty of walks and playtime, and welcomes a dog who truly wants to be part of the family. Whether he’s snuggling close, proudly performing a trick, or bouncing onto the couch with his signature vertical “pronk,” he brings laughter and warmth wherever he goes.   What makes Chocula especially unforgettable is how much he simply loves life. He looks into your eyes with pure devotion, delivers the tiniest kisses, and celebrates everyday moments—like a walk around the block or a quick game of fetch— as if they’re the greatest adventures ever. He’s affectionate, clever, playful, and deeply loyal, and he has a wonderful way of making the people around him feel like they’ve gained a best friend.   In short, Count Chocula is sweetness and fun all wrapped up in one small, scruffy package— and anyone lucky enough to adopt him will quickly understand why everyone who meets him falls in love.March 9, 2026, 4:00 pm

Story
Sparky is a delightful 1.5-year-old Cairn Terrier mix known for his energetic and lovable nature. He greets everyone with a wagging tail and a sparkly personality, making him a joy to be around. Sparky enjoys playing fetch, going on long walks, and spending quality time with his family. He is friendly and social, getting along well with other dogs and children aged 8 and up. As a great walking buddy, he loves outdoor activities and is mostly potty trained, though still improving. Sparky is learning commands like “sit” and “shake” and is very affectionate, enjoying kisses and snuggles. He is doing very well on a mild medication regimen for seizure prevention. While he still has some playful habits, such as nibbling fingers and occasionally ignoring commands, he is a quick learner with patience and training. Sparky is looking for a forever family to share his joyful moments with. Please complete our application on our website, 1luckydogrescue.org or contact Patricia 925-787-5825 for more information. Story
Meet Willow — A Sweet, Sensitive Soul Ready to Bloom Willow is a 1.5-year-old, 10-pound white terrier mix with a heart full of love and a playful spirit just waiting to shine. Though timid at first and easily overwhelmed by busy or loud environments, once she feels safe and bonded, she blossoms into a snuggly, affectionate companion who will excitedly jump up for attention and melt into your arms. Her silly and confident side truly comes out when she's with other dogs — she absolutely thrives in the company of playful canine friends. Willow has a strong need to play and would do best in a home with a well-matched, active dog companion and a secure yard where they can run and romp together. She’s dog-door potty trained and enjoys the independence to go outside to play as she pleases. Willow also rides well in the car using a booster seat and walks nicely on leash, especially when she has another dog to follow. Because she can be fearful of children, Willow is best suited for an adult-only home. While she hasn’t lived with cats, we have no reason to believe she wouldn’t do fine with a calm feline friend. Willow will need an adopter who is experienced with nurturing shy or sensitive dogs. Patience, empathy, and positive reinforcement will be essential. A clear post-adoption transition plan tailored to her needs — including time to decompress, daily structure, mental enrichment, and continued socialization — will set her up for success. If you’re ready to earn the trust of a timid pup and watch her blossom into the joyful dog she’s meant to be, Willow may be your perfect match. To begin the adoption process, please submit an application using the link below. Our team will carefully review it to determine if you are a suitable match for the dog you are interested in. If deemed a good fit, the foster parent will reach out to schedule a meet-and-greet or seek additional information. In the event your application isn't accepted or might be a better fit for another dog, we will provide feedback and suggest alternative matches. Your application remains active for 90 days, allowing consideration for other dogs in our care. Simply email us if there is another dog you would like your application to be applied to. Meet Sprout 🌱 Sprout is the definition of mellow. This low-energy sweetheart is happiest when she’s close to her people — preferably leaning into you or curled up in your lap soaking up all the love. If you’re looking for a calm, steady companion to relax with at the end of the day, Sprout is your girl. She’s wonderfully family-friendly and gets along great with both dogs and cats, making her an easy addition to a multi-pet household. Sprout knows “sit,” is very food motivated (which makes continued training a breeze!), and responds well to gentle corrections. She’s eager to please and enjoys learning — especially when treats are involved. With her soft presence and affectionate nature, Sprout brings a peaceful, loving energy wherever she goes. If your home is ready for a sweet lap dog who just wants to lean in and be your little shadow, Sprout can’t wait to meet you.
