Story
6/13/26: Jack came back into the rescue after his adoptive mom passed away. Initially, her son was going to take Jack but he found out he was not going to be allowed to keep him where he lived. The son had taken Jack to the vet in April of 2026 to update him on everything. Jack was determined to be heartworm positive and has a grade 5 dental calculus. Jack had been heartworm positive with us 4 years ago when he was adopted. We had started him on Simparica Trio monthly, at that time, but it doesn't appear that his adopter kept up with his treatment plan since he is still heartworm positive 4 years later. We recommend a dental to be completed for the dental calculus. This is a very common need in small breed dogs. We will try to get this done before Jack is adopted but if we are not able to, please note that it will be needed down the road. Otherwise, Jack appears to have no other health issues. A fecal was not completed but we have dewormed him with Drontal anyways. Jack now does walk on a leash and is crate trained. He, most likely, is housebroken now, as well, but we make no guarantees on housebroken with any of our dogs. Jack is pretty laid back and independent. He does enjoy attention from his people but is not overly playful with the other dogs. He's a sweet boy who just suffered the loss of someone who he loves so he is still adjusting to that. His appetite hasn't been great but he does perk up with canned food so we have been offering that to him just to get him to eat better. It's not ideal, given the condition of his teeth but he needs to eat. We aren't sure what his owner was feeding him but he either is still traumatized from his loss, is used to eating canned/human food or a combination of the two. We are hoping to wean him off of the canned and onto dry food as it's better for his teeth. We know Jack just wants to be someone's couch buddy again and we hope that, soon, he will find his forever lap to curl up on. Jack weighed 13.4 pounds as of his latest vet visit on 4/20/26. Jack came into rescue with 5 other dogs that we are currently working on getting ready for adoption. They belonged to a couple who had too many dogs and were not able to care for them all. Jack is an adorable little yorkie mix (we dont know what the mix is though) with a sweet, friendly personality once he adjusts He is initially quite shy and on the defensive but once he feels safe, he wants attention. We were told he is good with other dogs and because of his small size, we feel that he would be fine with cats also, although we do not have any to test him with and we don't believe his former home had any cats either. He should do well with older children who can respect his space and who are calm and quiet, although he would probably prefer an adult only home. Jack is approx 2 years old. He is a very sweet little boy and should fit well into most adult home environments. We are not sure if these dogs were living in the house, in kennels or were just in a pen outside but they do not appear to ne housebroken or crate trained so whoever adopts them will need to be willing to work on getting them housebroken. We have not tried them on a leash but do not guarantee them to be leash trained either. We currently have only had them for less than 2 weeks and they needed time to decompress and adjust as most of them were quite frightened when they first arrived and were not in the best shape. We have been giving them their space and feel that they have finally settled in enough to start getting them ready to go home so we have not really been able to assess everything about them yet but feel that they will all make wonderful companions. They are all eager to get attention and be loved on now. Their health issues are getting addressed and they are getting spayed and neutered. Jack was seen by the vet on 8/23/22 and was found to have a skin infection, most likely related to a flea infestation causing him to scratch, resulting in infection but no other issues were noted. He was given a capstar for immediate relief from the fleas and a Convenia injection for the skin infection and will be starting on Nexgard for monthly flea control. The vet also shaved his back end while he was sedated as he was severely matted. He will be feeling and looking great in no time though! He, unfortunately, tested positive for heartworms and will be started on monthly ivermectin to treat and he was also positive for hookworms and roundworms so we have dewormed him with drontal plus. Jack weighed 11.7 pounds as of 8/23/22. He is ready to find his new home and start his new life where he can be spoiled and live a charmed life. If interested in giving Jack his forever home, please submit your interest and your adoption application via email or text ONLY to 352-215-3260 (phone calls will not be answered or returned from this number). Jack's adoption fee will be $300 to help cover the cost of his vetting and daily care while with us.
