Zoey`s foster family reports: Zoey is a happy goofy bundle of pint sized joy. She is curious and playful. She loves to run around the yard getting lots of sniffs in and eating a little grass. She gets along with both big and small dogs. But she is not a fan of cats. She is crate trained and will settle in on her own without much complaint. She is just the cutest little gal.

Story
Scrappy is cute, sassy and a little complicated. Scrappy ended up back at our shelter after his owner passed away unexpectedly. He’s trying to sort out his new life, and we are here to help. Scrappy is an extremely smart dog with a good base of training. Despite his 8 years of age, he still has lots of energy. He would make an excellent best friend for another dog (or two or three). We’d actually love to see him go to a home with his sibling dog, Billie (also here at the shelter), though that is not a requirement. While he is a friend to all dogs, he is not so enamored with people. He is pretty selective about who he will allow to touch him and he needs an adopter who is willing to go slow getting to know him and give him some space during the process. Scrappy can not be around children. Fortunately, Scrappy is crate trained, muzzle trained, and can learn new rules very quickly. He enjoys walks but really needs a house with a fenced yard where he can run around and expend all his excess energy. He is not an “apartment dog”. He will not do well with cats. If you think you have a good home for Scrappy we would love to hear from you.

Story
Benny was found running the streets in a stray dog pack in the Rio Grande Valley. When he first came here, he was fearful around men and could be a bully to new dogs, but he's come a long way since then. Once he gets to know you, he's a sweet, funny, playful dog who wants to be with you as much as possible. Benny was initially cat-aggressive, but he's been around cats for several months and has grown used to them. He mostly ignores them but sometimes chases them. He can be around cats, but should not be left alone with them. (I kennel him when we leave.) Benny gets along well with most female dogs, but he can be dominant towards male dogs. He shows some resource guarding of both food and people and seems to want to "defend" his people from other dogs. That doesn't mean he can't get along with other dogs or other male dogs, but he needs to be introduced to other dogs carefully. The same can be true for introducing him to new people---he needs some time to build trust. Someone who is willing to take time and socialize Benny with other people and animals would be a great adopter. Benny is a great dog who really wants to please. He is loving, affectionate, and playful.
