Meet Melvin – Excuse Me, Are You Going to Hold Me? Melvin has a very important question for you. Do you have two arms? Excellent! He would like you to use them to hold him, please. This handsome 4-month-old orange tabby is a certified attention seeker, and he isn't the least bit embarrassed about it. Melvin loves being held, loves being fussed over, and thinks that humans were put on this earth for one very important purpose: loving kittens named Melvin. Melvin and his three siblings arrived at the shelter two months ago with upper respiratory infections. It's been a long road for these little ones, but thankfully Melvin has had a milder case than some of his siblings. We've been treating the kittens and giving them all the care we can, but after two months we know that a shelter environment can only take their recovery so far. Some kittens continue to experience symptoms, and we're looking for families who understand that they may need some extra care along the way. We think Melvin would be absolutely delighted to trade his shelter kennel for a cozy couch, a warm bed and, most importantly, a human who doesn't mind having a kitten attached to them! A Note About Upper Respiratory Infections in Kittens Upper respiratory infections are very common in shelter kittens, particularly during the colder months. They can cause sneezing, watery eyes, nasal congestion and other symptoms. Our kittens have been receiving treatment for the past two months, and while they have improved, some may continue to experience symptoms even after adoption. We are hopeful that moving into a less stressful home environment will help their recovery, but we cannot guarantee their symptoms will disappear completely. Are upper respiratory infections contagious to other cats? Yes. However, cats who received their kitten vaccinations and have remained up to date are generally better protected against severe illness. Vaccination doesn't guarantee they won't become infected, so careful introductions and discussing any ongoing symptoms with your veterinarian are important. We believe these kittens deserve the same opportunity for a loving home as any other kitten. They just need families willing to give them a little extra patience, understanding and TLC. A few sniffles don't make a kitten any less lovable.

Meet Pika — she knows things. Pika is an ADORABLE little 2-month-old tortoiseshell kitten who arrived at the shelter as a stray, all by herself. We don't know much about her life before she came through our doors, but Pika has made one thing abundantly clear: She LOVES people. Pika can usually be found right at the front of her kennel, keeping a very close eye on everything happening around the shelter. Who just walked through the door? Where are they going? Why is that dog barking? Who got treats? Was there a meeting she wasn't invited to? We're not calling Pika a Nosy Nelly...but if you know torties, you know. This girl likes to be in the know, and we're fairly certain she'll be ready to spill all the shelter tea the moment you sit down for a visit. If you look closely at Pika's adorable little face, you may also notice that the whiskers on her right side have been chewed off. We have absolutely no idea what happened there, and Pika isn't talking. Apparently some information is confidential. It certainly hasn't slowed her down!
