Story
Meet Lugnut — a 1‑year‑old Cane Corso with the heart of a gentle giant and the soul of a dog who’s clearly known love. Lugnut came to us as a stray, but from the moment we met him, it was obvious he had been cared for at some point in his life. He leans into people with his whole body, seeking closeness and comfort, and he has that classic Cane Corso softness that shines through despite his impressive size.If you’re looking for a big, affectionate dog who wants nothing more than to lean all his weight against you and soak up attention, Lugnut is your guy. He’s calm, sweet, and incredibly people‑oriented. His size can be intimidating to other dogs, but he passed his dog test and showed appropriate behavior — he just may need slow introductions with dogs who aren’t overwhelmed by a large breed.Lugnut also did well during his cat test. He remained gentle and curious until one of the cats tried to smack him, which startled him. A confident cat who is used to large dogs would be an ideal match for him.He does have some resource guarding when pushed, so he’s looking for a home with children 10 and older who can respect his boundaries and help him feel safe. With structure, patience, and understanding, Lugnut will thrive — he’s already shown how loving and steady he can be.Lugnut is ready for a family who appreciates big dogs with even bigger hearts. If you want a loyal companion who will lean into you, follow you around, and offer gentle affection every day, this sweet giant is waiting to meet you.Lagnut's adoption fee is $175, which helps support their medical care and preparation for adoption. Please note: All of our animals are spayed/neutered and up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations. Each pet also receives a behavioral assessment to help us better understand the type of home they may thrive in. However, it’s important to remember that the results may not fully reflect an animal’s true personality, as shelter and foster environments can be stressful. If you are interested in meeting any of our animals, we encourage you to first visit our website and submit an adoption application: https://www.acskc.org/adopt-1Once your adoption application has been approved, we will call you to set up an appointment to meet with the pet! Story
Houdini • 10 months old • Pit Bull Terrier / Cane Corso (Mastiff) Mix • Approx. 49 lbs • Neutered Male • Available in Shelter • ⭐ Adoption Fee: $0.00 (generously sponsored) Meet Houdini! Some dogs wear their hearts on their sleeves. Houdini wears his a little more quietly. Houdini came to the shelter as a stray alongside another dog named Blaine. While the world can still feel like a big, unfamiliar place to him, every day he shows us a little more of the sweet, gentle dog waiting to bloom. Houdini is naturally shy and cautious around new people, dogs, and unfamiliar situations. He isn't the type of dog who will run up to greet everyone he meets. Instead, he takes his time, observes from a distance, and slowly learns that he's safe. Because of this, he is looking for a patient adopter who understands that trust is earned, not rushed. Once Houdini begins to feel comfortable, his affectionate personality starts to shine. Watching him grow more confident is incredibly rewarding, and those who take the time to earn his trust will discover a truly wonderful companion. Despite his timid nature, Houdini has plenty of things he enjoys. He loves pup cups (whipped cream), enjoys relaxing with rope toys, and prefers independent play where he can entertain himself. He walks beautifully on a leash and enjoys spending time exploring the yard. Houdini has been on a car ride before. While he needed a little help getting into the vehicle, once inside he settled in nicely for the ride. Because he can be overwhelmed by busy environments, Houdini would thrive in a calm, predictable home where he can decompress at his own speed. A quieter household with patient adopters will give him the confidence he needs to truly blossom. With slow, controlled introductions, he may do well with another respectful dog, although he is currently shy and under-socialized around other dogs. His compatibility with cats and children is unknown. One of the most rewarding experiences in dog ownership is watching a fearful dog learn to trust. If you have a soft spot for the underdog and the patience to let a dog come out of his shell, Houdini may be the perfect companion for you. Houdini's Best Qualities: ✔️ Sweet, gentle personality once he feels safe ✔️ Walks beautifully on leash ✔️ Loves pup cups (whipped cream) ✔️ Enjoys rope toys ✔️ Calm demeanor ✔️ Rides well in the car once settled ✔️ Looking for a quiet home where he can build confidence ✔️ Adoption fee sponsored If you're ready to give a shy dog the time and understanding he deserves, come meet Houdini. The bond you'll build will be well worth the wait. Come meet Houdini at Caroline County Humane Society 407 W. Blaine • 1 Year Old • Pit Bull Terrier / Cane Corso (Mastiff) Mix • Approx. 54 lbs • Neutered Male • Available in Shelter ⭐ Adoption Fee: $0.00 (generously sponsored) Meet Blaine! If you're looking for a dog whose favorite place in the world is right beside you, look no further than Blaine. Blaine came to the shelter as a stray alongside another dog named Houdini. While he's still gaining confidence around other dogs, one thing has never been in question: his love for people. Every person who meets Blaine falls in love with his gentle spirit, affectionate personality, and the way he makes you feel like you're the most important person in the world. Blaine is a true cuddle bug who thrives on human companionship. He's the kind of dog who will happily curl up beside you on the couch after a day of adventures or simply follow you from room to room, content just being near his favorite person. If there's a bench nearby, don't be surprised if he hops right up beside you, leaning in for pets and soaking up every bit of attention you have to offer. Around the shelter, you'll often find Blaine sitting in the front corner of his kennel, quietly watching people walk by with his soft, hopeful eyes, patiently waiting for someone to stop and say hello. The moment you do, his whole face lights up. He eagerly comes over for affection, pressing himself as close as he can to the kennel door just to be near you. Blaine enjoys car rides and is happiest riding shotgun, taking in the scenery while spending time with his favorite people. He also walks nicely on a leash and would make a wonderful companion for neighborhood strolls, weekend outings, or relaxing afternoons together. Blaine has a wonderful balance of energy. He's happy to relax and cuddle, but when he meets new people, his excitement shines through. He loves greeting friends with happy hops, hugs, and kisses, so we think he'd be the best match for a home with children around 12 years and older who can comfortably enjoy his enthusiastic welcomes. With slow, controlled introductions, Blaine may do well with another respectful dog, although he is still somewhat shy and under socialized around other dogs. His compatibility with cats is currently unknown. Blaine would thrive in a home where he won't be left alone for long hours each day. Someone who works from home, is retired, or simply enjoys having a constant four legged companion would be an excellent match. His favorite hobby isn't chasing toys or running endless laps. It's simply being close to the people he loves. Whether you're looking for a couch potato to snuggle with during movie nights or an adventure buddy to join you on walks and car rides, Blaine is ready to share every adventure and every quiet moment with you. Blaine's Best Qualities: ✔️ Extremely affectionate and people oriented ✔️ Loves cuddling and being close to his family ✔️ Enjoys car rides and loves riding shotgun ✔️ Walks nicely on leash ✔️ Low to medium energy with playful moments ✔️Loves toys, outdoor adventures, and finding the perfect stick to chew on ✔️ Great companion for both adventures and relaxing at home ✔️ Adoption fee sponsored If you're looking for a dog who will fill your days with affection, companionship, and plenty of cuddles, Blaine is waiting to meet you.
