Hi, I’m Onix, and let’s just say I’m not exactly a subtle guy! I’m a big, powerful dog with a whole lot of enthusiasm packed into one very large body. I’m incredibly friendly and seem to be eager to make friends with everyone I meet. I’m also quite the freight train on leash. I’m strong, energetic, and can pull with some serious determination, so my future person will need to be physically capable of handling me and ready to help me learn some better leash manners. Although I am a lot of dog, I am food motivated and very much ready to learn and listen!We don’t know much about my past, so there’s still plenty to discover about who I am. I do seem very interested in other dogs and appear to want to play, although I’ll need proper introductions to find the right canine friends. My history with cats and children is unknown, but I would likely do best with older, sturdier children due to my large size. If you’re looking for a big, enthusiastic dog with a friendly heart and plenty of personality, I might just be your guy!

Hi, I’m Shadow! And yes, I know what you’re thinking: I’m a pretty big guy. You might even think I look a little intimidating. But here’s my little secret… I’m actually a giant baby. I can be pretty nervous when I meet new people or find myself in unfamiliar situations, and sometimes my first instinct is to quietly back away and hope nobody notices my enormous self trying to become invisible. Once I decide you’re safe, though, I have a very sweet side just waiting to come out. I may even back my big ol’ behind into you for some scratches!When I first arrived at the shelter, I was so nervous that the humans had a hard time getting to know me. With some time, medication, patient volunteers and plenty of gentle interactions, I’ve come a long way. I’m still a little shy and need people who will let me warm up at my own pace, but I’m learning that the world isn’t quite as scary as I thought. I’m not the kind of guy who wants to be the centre of attention right away, but I do appreciate some gentle affection once I trust you.Now, there is one thing I am VERY enthusiastic about: going for walks! I can be incredibly strong when I have somewhere I really, really want to go, so my new family will need to be prepared for the fact that I come with a considerable amount of horsepower. The good news is that I also settle nicely and respond well when you stop or change direction. In between my occasional “MUST GO THERE IMMEDIATELY” moments, I’m quite a nice walking companion.I’m housetrained, have done well being left alone for several hours, and I’ve lived with older kids before. I’ve also shown that I can be respectful and comfortable around other dogs. I previously lived with a cat, and while I’m currently living around cats in foster, I can get a little too interested in chasing them, so careful introductions and management will be important. I could even do well in an apartment as long as I’m getting enough physical exercise and mental enrichment.I’m looking for someone who understands that the biggest dogs sometimes have the biggest feelings. I don’t need you to rush me or expect me to become your best friend on day one. I just need patience, kindness, and a little time to discover that I’m safe. Give me that, and you may find that underneath this big, scary-looking package is just a very sweet, very nervous, very lovable Shadow waiting for his person.
