This beautiful girl is Sweets and she is true to her name. She is a young pup apprx 2 1/2 yrs. old., fully vetted and heartworm negative. She is crate and house trained and good on a lead. Sweets loves to play with the others here (see video). She is Carolina Dog which is kind of unusual, she is very quiet and her eyes are stunning! We would prefer a home with another dog, smilar in size, for her to play with, but not mandatory. And due to her puppy playfulness we would recommend a home with no small children. This attractive, easy-going fellow is Garrett, came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 4/17 as a stray. He has stunning good looks and a remarkable personality. He is listed as a mix of Carolina dog and Australian Kelpie. Garrett weighs 67 pounds, is about 2 1/2 years old and is neutered. He is a spunky, energetic, lively, and active fellow with a moderate energy level. He’s crazy about treats and takes them politely. He does not know the sit or any other command, but I have a strong sense that he’s smart enough to learn some basic commands very quickly. Garrett is very likely house trained as he kept his kennel clean and once he got into the yard, he did his business immediately. He is an amiable boy with a pleasant personality who is happy to have you pet him and love on him. And oh that smile🙂 Garrett would doubtless make some person or family a devoted and loving companion. It goes without saying that he needs to be an inside dog in order to be comfortable and to have a safe and secure living situation.

This handsome boy is Kaido. He arrived as a stray at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 12/12. Kaido weighs 46 pounds and is about 2 years old. According to my dog scanner app he very possibly has the following breeds in his mix: Carolina Dog, Basenji, and Canaan Dog. He walks ok on a leash, but could use some leash training. He does jump on you quite a bit and so manners training would be beneficial. He is playful and exuberant in behavior and thoroughly enjoyed time spent in the yard. He was up and down on our play equipment and is quite agile. He likes treats, will sit for them and takes them nicely. Kaido is friendly and enjoys being petted. I feel he would do best in a home situation of an active person or family. I can see him in their backyard chasing tennis balls (which he does but does not know to return), going for walks or jogging with his owner--just anything to stretch those legs and get some of the wiggles out. He absolutely wants to live inside and be an integral part of the family structure.

Meet Bert! He is a 4yr old male mixed breed that weighs est 60lbs. He is a very handsome boy and my dog scanner app thinks Carolina Dog, Black Mouth Cur and maybe some Lab/Retriever. No matter, he is a very handsome boy. He came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 1/10 as a stray. Since being at the shelter he has been nervous and unsure of why he is at the shelter, and what the future holds. We let him know that he can decompress at his own pace and let him learn to trust again. He is missing some hair on his back, but with time it will heal. He hasn’t shown any reaction to the other dogs. He walks well on a leash and enjoyed stretching his legs in the shelter yard, and also maybe potty trained. He takes treats gently, and has appreciated light pets. He is a work in progress, so as we continue to spend more time with him, there will be a follow up evaluation completed with this wonderful boy. You can see in his eyes he wants to love, trust, and we will be there to help him find the best home for this special boy.

Meet Kiki! She’s an 8-month-old female Carolina/Boxer mix weighing 23.6 lbs (and still growing!) who arrived at the shelter on 12/6 as a stray. Kiki is an absolute delight to be around—she walks beautifully on a leash, strutting with confidence as she prances along. She is a true lovebug too, as she will climb in your lap and smother you with kisses. She takes treats gently too! She is rescue only as she came into the shelter very malnourished and needs to gain weight before she can be adopted. We feel she may be houstrained as well. She has done quite well in the time she has been at the shelter yet would do even better being out of the shelter and on her way to her own loving family.
