A Gentle Giant’s Long Road Home: Meet Tommy I don’t know where Tommy’s story began, or who it was that left him behind and forgot him. For over a year, this 15-pound gentle giant lived as a ghost in the shadows of my neighborhood. At first, he stayed far away, only acknowledging the food I left with a quiet, thankful chirrup—a tiny sound for such a big boy. I fixed him, vaccinated him, and released him, truly believing he was a creature of the wild. But as the months passed, I watched him. Every night, he would appear to eat, and every morning, before the sun could touch the ground, he would disappear back into the cold. Lately, something shifted. The light in Tommy's eyes had been replaced by a heavy, hollow sadness. He began to approach me, his body matted and tired, but his heart was torn between a desperate need for help and a deep-seated fear. His eyes seemed to ask: "Is that hand going to hurt me, or will it finally be the one to save me?" One evening, the walls finally came down. Tommy walked right up to me and allowed me to stroke his weary body. When I went inside that night, he didn't disappear into the shadows. He stayed. He spent the entire night on my doormat, staring at the door, waiting for a life he had almost forgotten existed. For three nights, he braved the darkness and the cold, sitting patiently, his eyes filled with a quiet, flickering hope. On the third night, I opened the door, and Tommy walked out of the shadows for the last time. Inside, Tommy has transformed. This "distinguished gentleman" doesn't just want to be near you—he clings to you. He gives "whole-body hugs," wrapping himself around his human as if he’s afraid that if he lets go, he might wake up back on that cold doormat. Tommy’s Profile: Age: Approx. 3 years old. Weight: 15 lbs of pure love. Health: Fully vetted at Harmony Animal Hospital. He is FIV positive, but his vets give him a wonderful prognosis for a long, healthy life. He just needs a quality diet and an indoor-only lifestyle. Personality: Laid-back, gentle, and a master of the "lap snuggle." He loves being brushed and cherished. Because my home is already full, I am searching for a very special soul for Tommy. He needs a calm, "indoor-only" sanctuary with someone experienced who understands that trauma takes time to heal. Because he craves peace, he would do best in a home without children. Adoption Details: To ensure he starts his new life on the right foot, I am asking for $50 adoption fee that will be paid directly to his account at Harmony Animal Hospital to cover his future wellness checks. Tommy survived the outdoors, but he was made for the indoors. He is done with the shadows; he is just waiting for his forever person to walk through the door. If you can offer Tommy the safe harbor he has been searching for, please reach out at 845 274 4474 or ewafront@yahoo.com March 22, 2026, 11:40 am

Story
The cats listed on this page are posted as a courtesy to their current owners or fosters seeking new homes. For the Love of Cats does not guarantee the accuracy of any information provided, including temperament, medical history, or background. Meet Salem and Spirit, two inseparable kittens whose beginnings were rough - but whose hearts are nothing but pure love. These boys have survived storms, engines, and the dangers of the outdoors, and through it all, they found each other. Now, they’re ready to find a forever home together. Salem appeared at the doorstep on a stormy, rainy day - soaking wet, crying, and clearly hungry. He was far too friendly to be feral, with no microchip and no siblings, and it was obvious he had been dumped. Once brought inside, he instantly revealed his sweet, mellow, affectionate nature, happily cuddling, following his rescuer around, and enjoying window perches, wand toys, and even watching cat games on YouTube. Spirit’s story is just as remarkable. He was discovered stuck inside a car engine after being unknowingly driven home by a neighbor. Thankfully, he survived the ride without injury and was found crying and climbing out onto the car wheel, hungry and scared. With nearby dogs and feral cats posing a danger, he was rescued just in time and quickly bonded with Salem. Though shy at first, Spirit warms up into a loving, affectionate boy who enjoys laying on your chest, bird-watching from a window, energetic play sessions, wand toys, and cat TV. Both boys adore watching birds from a screened porch or window perch, so a home with plenty of window access or even a catio would make them very happy. They LOVE Delectables lickable treats. They do wonderfully with other cats but are not suitable for a home with dogs. Together, Salem and Spirit balance each other beautifully—Salem with his mellow sweetness and Spirit with his playful energy. They are deeply bonded, incredibly loving, and ready for a peaceful, safe forever home where they can stay together and finally leave their difficult pasts behind.March 22, 2026, 11:40 am

All inquiries, screenings, and adoption arrangements must be made directly with the owner or current caregiver of the cat listed. Smokey is a sweet and timid girl who was sadly abandoned. A caring family began feeding her outdoors, but when they noticed she might have some hearing loss and was growing thin from stress and hiding, they brought her onto their porch to keep her safe. Now indoors, Smokey is scared of the resident cats and mostly stays tucked under the couch—but she lovingly comes out for snuggles when someone sits nearby. She’s not aggressive at all—just a quiet, gentle soul who needs a calm, cat-free home where she can feel safe and truly loved.  If you're interested in adopting Smokey, please contact Beth Knuston at knustonbeth@gmail.com or by phone  239-207-8051.  March 22, 2026, 11:40 am

These gentle, charming kittens love to: Tumble, cuddle, and chase toys Zoom from room to room Purr and make the cutest chirping noises Collapse into a pile of fur and nap multiple times a day They adore their people and would love to sleep with you at night if that’s allowed in their new home. Both kittens get along well with other cats and are not aggressive at all. While they are super friendly in their foster home, their foster mom lives in a quiet home, so they might be a bit shy at first. They have been with their foster mom, Patt, since they were 10 weeks old so they have never experienced a shelter or been exposed to illness or viruses. They are fully vaccinated, spayed / neutered, and up to date on shots.  Milo and Ivy can be adopted together or separately, though they do enjoy each other’s company.
