Story
Hello folks! My name is Tessie and I am a seven year five month old female Catahoula Leopard dog mix. I am medium sized and white with black in color. Even though I am partially blind and partially deaf, my hoomans say that I am very sweet and very intelligent. I do prefer men over women. Since I am partially enabled, I will need to go to a forever home with a few special things: I need to be in a home where I am the only animal and with no small children. It’s not that I don’t like them, its just that any sudden movement or loud noises may frighten me. Just sit in a dark room sometime, close your eyes and plug up your ears; scary huh? I can see some dark shapes and hear some loud sounds but it can still be pretty scary. The hoomans here say I can be trained like the other dogs, but I have to rely more on your touch or my ability to smell or how something feels instead of just voice commands. I also need a safe forever home without hazards for me to hurt myself on, like sharp corners or extension cords or stuff like that in my special area. And, I need a home where stuff in my area doesn’t get moved around a lot. I have to use my memory you know to help me get around safely. Well, hoomans, I’ve told you what I need from you; the patience, commitment and understanding. Now I can tell you what I can give you in return. I can give you my unending loyalty and love. That’s because I’ll know you’re the one who brought me to my forever home. The hoomans tell me that many times, the bond a dog like me has with its owner is even stronger than usual. And, I can also give you that deep feeling of satisfaction in knowing that when it really mattered, you helped a fellow person to a better, happier life. So, what do you say? Why not fill out an application, come see me a couple of times, and let’s start a life together. If you have read my story and you’re considering adopting me, you are probably the kind of person that could make this work. If you are that person, I look forward to your visits soon. LOVE TESSIE

Story
Meet Sheba, a lively Catahoula mix with a spirit as vibrant as spring itself. This adult dog embodies curiosity and independence, always eager to explore every corner of her surroundings. Her friendly demeanor makes her a delight to be around, and her boundless energy ensures that there is never a dull moment. Sheba is the perfect companion for someone who loves adventure and is looking for a loyal friend to share life's exciting journeys. Adopt Sheba today and experience the endless joy she brings! Dogs are usually tested with other dogs their size, and we encourage meet-and-greets with your dog before adoption. Cat tests are available if requested, but they only check for clear aggression. Always be careful when introducing dogs to cats. Advice about dogs living with children is based on behavior like energy level and how the dog handles touch. Young children should never be left alone with dogs, and we cannot guarantee how any dog will behave with kids or other pets. Behavior seen in the shelter is just a snapshot and may change in a home. Dogs come from many backgrounds and may need training, time, and patience. Dogs should not be fed together unless you know they do not guard food. We also suggest learning about a dog's breed or mix to be sure it fits your family. Moving to a new home can be stressful for dogs. Use the Rule of 3 to help them adjust: First 3 days: Dogs may feel scared, tired, overexcited, or not want to eat. First 3 weeks: Dogs start learning routines and may show new behaviors. Keep things calm and avoid busy places. First 3 months: Dogs usually feel settled and more comfortable. Story
Meet Columbo 25C-180 On the way to the bark park session, Columbo journeyed down the shelter kennel corridor while totally ignoring the sweet-talking “cat-calls” of dozens of well-wishing canines. If you have ever wondered why the TV Columbo always wore a down-to-earth rain suit, you will never have to deliberate again…. just like the original, our Humane Society Columbo’s suit sheds off water like it was divinely designed. It may take a sunshiny day to fully evaporate the moisture from his Catahoula/Flat-Coated Retriever coat but our Humane Society Columbo knows that he shares other attributes with his namesake with many other desirable traits to offer: endless from-the-heart-smiles, a wonderful desire to please, a seven-year experience of life adventures on this planet, and the wish for a human who will join him in the quest of kindness for all. Columbo is a mellow natured canine who stepped into the doggy wading pool and eventually worked up the courage to place his face completely under water and nosedive for the submerged hot dog treats, which he deservedly apprehended. Columbo interacts marvelously with all the other dogs who share his exercise pod, even a somewhat temperamental next-door neighbor named Tiki. Columbo is a huggable, lovable canine who will instantly be your best “let’s share our life together” friend.
