Gemini / Female / 2 years / 53 pounds / Catahoula Leopard Dog Mix / Good with Dogs / Good with Cats / Older, Dog Savvy Children / From Tennessee / Fostered in Toronto
Meet Gemini! This sweet, lovable and playful girl joined us all the way from Tennessee. Gemini is curious and still gaining confidence in her new world. She enjoys being near her people and makes a great companion. She enjoys cuddling with other dogs, and would love another canine sibling.
Gemini is calm and curious when meeting people. She will approach with slow sniffs. While she may take her time to warm up, once you've earned her trust, you'll discover a personality that shines brightly. The bond she forms with those she trusts is truly special. Since Gemini is a playful pup, she is still learning to respect boundaries. Therefore, we are suggesting that she only lives in a home with older, respectful dog-savvy children.
Gemini would do best in a quieter neighbourhood, as the hustle and bustle of a big city could be overwhelming for her. Loud noises, cars and crowds of people still make her nervous. Gemini would also benefit from a home with a yard as she is used to having the freedom of open spaces where she feels comfortable.
Gemini has always been a wonderful companion to other dogs, and her friendly nature shines through in her interactions. She is learning to read other dogs body language and this is something her adoptive family will need to continue working on. She has lived most of her life outdoors and amongst other dogs. Based on Gemini’s personality, we believe she’d love a home with another dog sibling that she could play with. Gemini currently lives with cats and does well.
Although Gemini is new to formal training, she is doing great with her learning. Gemini currently knows sit but can be stubborn. Her adoptive family will need to continue working on basic commands with her. She walks well on a leash, but can be nervous of her surroundings and does fright at loud sounds or sudden movements. She is gradually gaining confidence each day. She will need at least 2 walks per day combined with playtime in the yard. Play based training can also aid in building a special bond.
Gemini does well within the house considering it is brand new for her. Gemini is crate trained and enjoys the comfort of her own space. She has only been left alone for short periods so far and is crated while alone. Gemini’s new family should be prepared to continue working with her on her obedience skills. Anything beyond the basics and building her confidence will require patience and effort, but the journey will be incredibly rewarding.
Gemini is a flight risk and our top priority in her furever home is safety. Her forever family must take precautions to keep her safe and secure, including the purchase of a GPS tracker which will be required for adoption.
Gemini has a fractured top incisor, which can be removed if/when a dental is needed in her future. Gemini is a true gem, waiting for a loving family willing to invest the time and effort to unlock her full potential. She's an opportunity for a heartwarming transformation, and she promises a lifetime of love in return.
