Story
It's not every day you find a hidden gem or a diamond in the rough, well today is you're lucky day. Gemma Sparkles is that and so much more, she is a true treasure just waiting for you to take her home. Her personality radiates just like those icy blue eyes of hers, she's smart, gentle, and amazing with other dogs. Gemma is not just a good dog, she's the rare kind. Watch her video and fall in love with Gemma: https://youtu.be/VUuh6QuZxcg?si=LFwVI90NaOi193J1 Gemma Sparkles is believed to be a Catahoula/Pittie mix approximately 1 year old and currently weighs 57 lbs. She is a rescue dog and with any rescue, it's always a mystery and we cannot guarantee breed or age. Gemma is very dog friendly and has been in playgroups with upwards of 15-20 dogs all with different personalities, varying sizes, and has done great with all the dogs she has been around. One of our k9 coaches has even said that if "perfect" was an actual reality (because there is no such thing as perfect), that would be her and she has the potential to even be a day care dog. She is able to match a dog's energy, is respectful around dogs that are not interested in playing, doesn't ever really get too rough and rowdy when she is playing, and has a more bouncy mixed with some chase type of play style with other dogs. Gemma likes to have a good time with other dogs and romping around but she isn't all about playing all the time either. She appreciates just hanging out around other dogs, enjoying the outdoors, and spending time with people. One thing about her that really impressed me was when she saw a small scruffy dog wearing the cone of shame that she has never met before. In most instances, the cone of shame can be off-putting to other dogs and he was a small scruffy little fella and Gemma did great meeting him! Even when he was getting all spicy and excited to meet her, she did amazing. She wasn't overly bothered by his cone of shame nor did she really care that he was acting like a wild child LOL. Gemma sniffed him, said hello, and then was ready to move on. We would love for Gemma to be adopted out with another dog in the home because she is so great around other dogs and they seem to really enjoy being around her too. She would thrive in a home with a dog that likes to romp around in the yard, playing chase, that has a similar gentle play style to Gemma, as well as a doggy sibling that enjoys relaxing too and isn't all about play all the time. Gemma can be a little shy at first when meeting new people and but trust me when I say it does not take long for her to turn into your little shadow and lover girl. One of the ways to her heart is through treats. The second you give her a treat, it's game over and her heart has been captured. Once she's comfortable she is such a goofy and silly girl. Gemma would do best in a home with a backyard in the suburbs rather than in the city with all the hustle and bustle. Her initial shyness can also be seen when she is in new places she has never been before. The thing about Gemma though is that she wants to explore, she wants to do all these things, she just hasn't yet, it's all new to her and let me tell you, she is loving learning about it all! You can see it in her eyes and the way her nose starts to do those cute twitch like movements, just soaking it all in. Like a kid learning a new skill with their teacher or coach, full of enthusiasm and curiosity, with their listening ears turned on. That's the best way to describe Gemma haha. As mentioned above, Gemma loves treats and loves to learn to new things. When you have those two things combined with how smart Gemma is, you find yourself working with a gal that is easy to train! She already knows how to sit and have a pretty good recall already. She walks well on a leash and is crate trained and potty trained. Gemma may need a reminder about how the crate is a safe place and her own little sanctuary once in her forever home, but with patience and consistency she'll quickly remember. From what we have seen so far, Gemma also has great house manners and never really gets into things she shouldn't be. She actually has to be convinced to jump on the couch so if you don't allow your pets on furniture, it would be easy to maintain with Gemma. BUT if you do want couch snuggles and your own personal weighted blanket (aka Gemma), she'll be all about that too. When she was on the couch after much convincing she loved it and kept inching closer to me for affection and resting her head on my shoulder. She is a very very sweet girl. We can see Gemma being a great adventure buddy too to tag along with you on those nature trails you have pinned that you've always wanted to explore, a great pal to take on a camping trip, and potentially even those small town farmer's markets. She loves to explore and loves being outdoors. Gemma is what you can say a modern day Amelia Earhart in my opinion. She also has one of those perfectly balanced energies where she can match whatever you need from her. She can be adventurous, she can be cuddly, she can be playful, I even believe she can be lazy if you wanted. So if the weather does permit for a walk a the park or adventure, I'm sure she will be just fine hanging back at the house. One thing we know that will make those rainy days more enjoyable for you both is preparing a lick mat for Gemma or a puzzle for her to figure out while you watch you favorite movie or read your book. We are willing to test Gemma Sparkles with anything you need us to in order to ensure it's a perfect match. We can make anything happen! Just let us know. Story
Finnean is a good looking boy, that is easy to see. What is a little harder to see is his heart. He is a sensitive soul that loves ease and calm, oh yes, and treats! It might even be best to say- his heart is in his stomach. He doesn’t have expensive taste though, he is as happy with MilkBones as he is with grade A jerky. Take a look at him here https://youtu.be/i3gLRxV53C0 Just like his taste in treats, simple is perfect with him. No frills, no fancy. He loves routines and shines in structure and stability. If he was a person, the military would be recruiting him. Estimated to be 3 years old and weighing 55 lbs, lapdog was never in his cards so you wont have to worry about that. He will be close by but won’t insist on affection. He loves the quiet moments of connection, letting you know he is there without being imposing, happy with little head scratches and you calling him over for the companionship. When it comes to his canine companions, Finnean welcomes them. He loves to play with moderately playful dogs and is especially skilled at navigating the dynamics of group play. He greets and welcomes new dogs with ease and a calm approach. While he’s not one to initiate play right away, once he’s comfortable, he loves a good rough and tumble round of wrestling. A home with a yard and doggy friends who match his energy level would be ideal for him. Leash walking is a mixed bag for Finnean. He’s generally easy to walk but prefers quiet walks over busy sidewalks. A calm, attentive handler will help him continue to grow his confidence in these environments as needed. Not everyones life involves busy sidewalks and this isn’t the only way for him to be stimulated and get physical exercise. Indoors, we see moments where it is clear he is experiencing something new, those are teachable moments and may come up as he settles into a home.Guiding and teaching will strengthen your bond and watching him fully find his ease will be deeply gratifying. Finnean isn’t a fan of kennels and may get anxious if left contained for too long, though he is making improvements in this as his foster gently guides him to knowing crates are comfortable and safe spaces. We never can know what a rescue dog has faced in their past but we can absolutely promise them only the moving forward. Thanks to his foster dad’s guidance, crating has become a stress-free process, especially when it’s paired with his favorite thing—treats. Finnean’s ideal home would be one that understands his needs for patience, and time to get comfortable. The quiet, simple life with a little yard would be this boys heaven. While he’s not suited for a cat-friendly household (he was a bit terrified of the cat,) he has the potential to thrive in a home where his independent, food-loving, and playful spirit can truly shine. Are you Finneans someone? We sure hope so. Apply today! https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/animal/62cc8e128b02916730334440/6740b688cd95d10ccf07024d Questions? Story
Meet Liberty! She is currently 3 1/2 months old, and we think she may be a Catahoula Leopard Dog / Husky mix, but with rescue it’s always a guess! This puppy is from a part of the US where puppies are regularly euthanized. So, this puppy needs you! If you choose a puppy from this rescue, it saves their life AND it also allows us to save the life of another in its place. Watch Liberty's video here: coming soon! Liberty is currently in a loving foster home and loves to play and take lots of naps! Eat, sleep, play, repeat. Liberty is living her best puppy life right now - all she needs is YOU! Liberty is still young so she will need a family that can commit to training, socialization and all the dedication puppyhood requires. Liberty's new family will need to continue with potty and crate training and daily exercise. We require a commitment from adoptive families to crate train their new puppy. When old enough, they will be perfect to go on walks and hikes or show off around your neighborhood. You will be guaranteed to get lots of kisses in return from your new best friend! This is the feedback we tend to get, although we cannot guarantee perfect health. *To fully vet a dog in the PNW or the NE at many vets it would be upwards of $1,800 just to fix, vaccinate, chip, etc. The adoption fees charged by our rescue do not cover our expenses medically for each animal, but we offset costs with donations. Your adoption fee is considered a donation towards actual costs. Why adopt from Three Little Pitties? The stray and animal overpopulation in the Greater Houston area is the highest in the nation. Statistics show that there are over 1 million homeless animals in this region alone. Three Little Pitties Rescue is a nonprofit dog and cat rescue that partners with the community to make a difference. Our mission is to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and saving all breeds of dogs and cats from the streets or animal shelters that oftentimes have no other option but to euthanize animals for space. This dog you’ve found online is lucky to be in our program, and even luckier to have you notice it! Three Little Pitties wants to set you and your new pet up for success! We know our dogs and we work hard to prepare them socially for adoption. We are a network of dedicated people who are heavily invested in seeing our animals thrive. From the moment they are accepted into our program, our Intake, Behavior & Medical teams prepare them for adoption by properly vetting, behaviorally assessing, and providing customized plans depending on the dog’s needs. We seek to adopt to families who understand that these are rescue dogs and will require continued training efforts, but will be well on their way to being the best dogs that they can be! It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these special perks: • 30 day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion (must register within 24 hours of first vet appt.) • A free private online dog training session with GoodPup plus low pricing for future sessions (approx $25 weekly for an 8 week course of one session per week) • One free bonus toy in every BarkBox when signing up for their Super Chewer subscription plan • 70% off of your first order of Fetch, a PNW based, organic fresh dog food loaf meal subscription plan • Coupons for a fun visit to Petco • Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup! Meet Blue Jay! Blue Jay is a stunning catahoula mix puppy, all 61# of her! She was pulled from a shelter where she was marked for euthanasia because she completely shut down after her sister was adopted. However, once in her foster mom’s house, she rapidly morphed into a very happy, energetic, intelligent & playful pup. She might be shy upon initial meeting, but rapidly warms up. She loves everyone & thing: children, dogs of all sizes, cats, toys, & FOOD. If not kept busy, she will use her tall/leggy body & smarts for evil, counter surfing at extraordinary heights. She is not yet the most confident critter, gets absolutely crushed by a raised voice. For this reason, a confident dog buddy would be ideal. Do you have room in your home & heart for this active, affectionate beauty? Story
I have had so many chances in my young life. Seriously...I was found with four siblings at about 2.5 weeks old, dumped in a box at the post office... we were so, so sick and close to death. My rescue mom really worked hard to get us healthy and LIVE. And we did! About 6 weeks later, we all got parvo..... and my rescuer was able to nurse all of us out of it! All my siblings have been adopted, and I am ready too! I am somewhat shy and will take time to settle into my new family. But I will adjust. I am best with another dog, calm and confident, because I will mirror that energy. As a gorgeous catahoula/whippet mix, I have plenty of energy and I love to play! Fetch and chase games are my favorite . I am adoptable in Texas, I need to meet my family and you need to meet me! Local adoption fee is $250 (in TX)
