Story
Arthur is a 5-year-old, 78-pound neutered Staffordshire Terrier/Retriever mix with a big personality and an even bigger heart. This handsome boy is the perfect combination of playful adventure buddy and affectionate cuddle companion. He's in a foster home in Houston, TEXAS and able to transport once matched to an adopter. Arthur was found roaming around a park with some other dogs. He was always happy to greet the street feeders. One day he was rounded up with some other dogs and brought to the county shelter. We fell in love with him and thankfully a foster agreed to help him out. Arthur loves life and approaches every day with enthusiasm. He's a moderate energy guy who enjoys playtime, exploring, and spending time with his people. He has successfully interacted with dogs of different sizes, including a 70-pound Black Lab and a 35-40 pound Mini Aussie and a 15 Chihuahua. Arthur enjoys playing and does a good job reading social cues from other dogs, recognizing when a playmate is ready for a break. Arthur has also been around cats and even pot-bellied pigs. He's curious and interested in them but has never shown aggression. As with any dog, proper introductions and supervision are recommended. This sweet boy has spent time around a young child and has done well. He doesn't jump on people, but because of his size and excitement, he could accidentally knock over a small child during play. He would do best with a family that understands his energetic nature and can provide appropriate outlets for his enthusiasm. Arthur is fully house-trained and crate-trained. He settles nicely in his crate and has comfortably stayed crated for for longer periods before needing a potty break. He rides beautifully in the car and absolutely LOVES car rides -mention the words "car ride" and you'll have his full attention! Personality-wise, Arthur is outgoing, playful, curious, affectionate, and incredibly sweet. He enjoys toys, loves spending time with his people, and is always happy to soak up attention and affection. He thinks if he can fit, he can sit! Arthur may pull at first out on a walk, but settles into the routine and does well. Arthur's ideal home is one that can provide regular exercise, structure, and plenty of opportunities to be part of the family. He doesn't need another dog in the home to be happy, but he would thrive with people who enjoy including their dog in everyday adventures. If you're looking for a loyal, loving companion who is equally happy going on an adventure or curling up beside you at the end of the day, Arthur may be the perfect addition to your family. Please note our process starts with an application. If we think you might be a good fit, we will reach out to coordinate a phone interview. This is followed by a video call with the foster home. Virtual home visit, personal and vet reference checks are required to complete the process. Transport is included in our adoption donation. ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. *** Interested in applying to adopt him? Story
Sentry, 9 months(estimated DOB Jan 2026), neutered male, Retriever/Pitbull mix, currently weighs 55 pounds, estimated to be a large size when full grown. He is in a foster home in Houston, TEXAS and able to transport once matched to an adopter. A picture of mom for reference is also included in the profile pictures- she is 55 pounds. This family was rescued from the woods in a rural and well known dumping area outside of Houston. Wanda, mom, had her litter of puppies during a cold freeze that came through Texas at that time. A networker discovered her and her 2 day old puppies. We were able to move mom and 6 puppies to safety in a foster home. Sentry is starting to navigate the world around him. He has his siblings and mom to play with. Sentry is the most confident of the males along with his sister Dagger. He is outgoing, friendly and playful. He is always first in line for pets. Sentry is not fully house broken or crate trained. He has typical puppy energy. He has not interacted with cats, but has been around children. Puppyhood is a crucial developmental period. It’s when they learn house manners, crate comfort, appropriate chewing habits, and how to navigate the world with confidence. Leash work doesn’t happen overnight — it takes daily practice, positive reinforcement, and lots of encouragement to help a puppy learn not to pull, zig-zag, or get distracted by every leaf that blows by. The time invested early makes all the difference later. One of the biggest areas of focus at this age is socialization. Safe, positive exposure to new people, sounds, environments, and other dogs helps shape a stable, confident adult dog. We love seeing our puppies grow up with a well-adjusted canine role model in the home. A resident dog can help teach appropriate play, communication cues, and boundaries in ways humans simply can’t replicate. For that reason, we prefer homes that already have another friendly, well-mannered dog to help mentor and guide this puppy. That said, we understand that not every home has another dog. If you do not currently have a dog, we will want to know your specific plan for socialization once your puppy is old enough and fully vaccinated. This might include structured puppy classes, regular playdates with trusted dogs, supervised daycare, or other intentional, safe opportunities for positive canine interaction. A proactive approach is essential. Because this is such an important stage of development, we also do not adopt puppies of this age into homes where someone is away for more than four hours at a time during the day. Puppies need frequent potty breaks, structured training sessions, enrichment, and human interaction to build healthy habits and prevent anxiety or behavioral challenges. This early investment sets them up for lifelong success. Raising a puppy takes time, flexibility, and dedication — but the reward is an incredible lifelong companion who trusts you, looks to you for guidance, and grows into a confident, well-balanced dog. If you’re ready for the work, the payoff is immeasurable. ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. Story
Sean Connery is a 10-month-old, 55 lb, neutered male Pitbull mix (DOB 5/23/25), expected to be a larger adult once fully grown. He has adorable speckled paws and a speckled chest that make him even more striking and unique. He is in the foster home where he was born in Houston, Texas, and can transport to the Petfinder-listed city once an adopter has completed our screening process, virtual home visit, and reference checks. Charming, confident, and full of heart — just like his namesake! Sean Connery is a sweet, social puppy who loves to play with his siblings (but not in an over-the-top way). He’s affectionate, loves giving kisses, and enjoys being near his people. While he can be nervous at first, he warms up quickly with gentle introductions and reassurance. Sean hasn’t been around children yet, but we expect he will do well with kids who are respectful of a dog’s boundaries. We have no history with cats. Sean has been introduced to a crate and is working on his potty training routine. He’s a smart, eager-to-please boy already showing great obedience for his age, but like all puppies, he’ll need continued guidance as he grows — leash walking, manners, and a consistent daily routine will help him thrive. Because he’s still so young, we’re looking for a home where someone is home more often than they are away — puppies truly flourish with time, structure, and companionship. He’s great with other dogs and enjoys having canine friends around. If you’re ready for puppy breath, snuggles, and the joy (and occasional chaos!) of raising a wonderful dog, Sean Connery just might be your perfect match. __ ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown.
