Hector - Undercover Cat (and He’s So Over It)2 years old | “Dog” | Actually a Cat in DisguiseFor the last two years, Hector has been living a lie.To the untrained eye he appears to be a 2-year-old tan Chihuahua…But Hector would like to formally announce that he is, in fact, a cat — andhe is exhausted from keeping up the ruse.It all started when he came in as a “stray” on 11/5/25. Really, he was justlooking for a safe house where he could finally reveal his true felineidentity. But the shelter put him in the dog section, and well… he panickedand went along with it.In foster, his cover finally slipped. He immediately attached himself to the resident cat — shadowing him, lounging with him, copying his strut, and getting dramatic zoomies wheneverhe tried to initiate cat-style play. The jig was up.Hector has one ear up, one ear down because that’s what happens when a cattries to operate dog hardware. He is doing his best, okay? Now he’s ready to live authentically:No more pretending to be a dog.No more tail-wagging expectations. He just wants a home with a cat so he can finally let his feline hair down.If your cat has been seeking a devoted little apprentice who thinks the sunrises and sets on their whiskers, Hector is ready to clock in.Adopt Hector — the tiny “dog” who is finally ready to come out as the cathe’s always been.

Story
Ari is a gentle, sensitive boy who thrives in the comfort of home. He enjoys daily walks, but outside of that he is fearful of new environments, groups, strangers, and public places. In those situations, he tends to shut down and wants to hide. Ari doesn’t love the car, though he will go in willingly; once inside, he usually curls up quietly. At home, Ari has many cat-like qualities. He loves to sleep on the bed, perch on the back of the couch, and be near his people—though he doesn’t always want to be held. He spends a lot of time napping, and typically only plays with toys once a day or so. You can tell when Ari is truly happy because he rolls on his back, chuffs, and rubs his face in the blankets. One of his favorite pastimes is “helping” with the laundry.Ari is highly food-motivated and loves treats (and people food if he can sneak some), so a little regulation is needed to keep him at a healthy weight. He learned to use the dog door very quickly and is also pee pad trained. When he first arrived, he did some marking—though that may have been related to living with several other male dogs in the home.Currently, Ari lives with two adults, two teens, a male dog his size, two larger male dogs, and a smaller female dog. He can get jealous when the other dogs receive attention, but he hasn’t had issues sharing food or toys. When meeting new dogs, he may be a bit snarky—likely due to his small size and timid nature.Ari does best when left loose in the house with other dogs. He cannot be crated comfortably—he barks nonstop—and if left with access to a dog door, he will try to climb fences to find his people. For this reason, he is usually secured indoors when no one is home. He’s adjusted well to this routine and does fine left in the home for reasonable periods of time.Ari has fit beautifully into our household, but with four dogs already, we can’t keep a fifth as a permanent family member. He deserves a forever home where his unique personality and needs will be embraced. He will be a wonderful companion for someone patient, gentle, and understanding, who values quiet companionship over an outgoing or adventurous pup.

Story
Hi there! My name is Blanket and I'm at the Santa Barbara Campus. I am a 2 year old, spayed female, Chihuahua mix. Adoptions are open 12pm-4:30pm every day, except Wednesdays, and no appointment is needed. Like all SBH animals, when I am adopted I will have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Adoptions also include a certificate for a complimentary post-adoption veterinary exam from a local clinic and our partners at Purina will provide a supply of food for my first few days at home. Need some supplies? Both SB Humane Campuses have retail centers stocked with everything you need, at comparable prices, and your purchase helps support our mission. Hope to see you soon!

Story
Hi there! My name is Midnight and I'm at the Santa Barbara Campus. I am a 9 month old, spayed female, Chihuahua, eager for a new home! I came in as a transfer from a rescue and I have been described as quite the gentle soul with a shy side, but once I warm up to you- I'll be your shadow and ultimate snuggle buddy! The kind staff at SBH have been working hard to get me to warm up to new people and I've shown slow yet steady progress, taking small and meaningful steps one day at a time. I would thrive in a home that allows me to learn and grow at a comfortable pace that feels safe for me. I would also thrive in an environment that has a confident dog already established at home, to help teach me how to 'dog'. If you've got a quiet and loving home ready to take on a puppy and help my personality shine through, I'm your gal! Interested in meeting me? Adoption Centers are open daily 12-4:30pm, closed Wednesdays. Adoptions are on a first-come first served basis. For more information please email Adopt@SBHumane.org or call 805-964-4777. When I am adopted, I will have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. My adopters will receive a certificate for a free veterinary exam and our partners at Purina will provide a supply of food for my first few days at home. Need some supplies? Both SB Humane Campuses have retail centers stocked with everything you need, at comparable prices, and your purchase helps support our mission!
