Meet Chong! The vet estimates Chong is about three years old. He came to us as an owner-surrender because his previous family had too many Chihuahuas. While he was initially shy when he arrived a couple of months ago, our volunteers have worked with him daily and he has made incredible progress. He is still shy with new people at first, but he warms up once he trusts you mean him no harm. Chong will need a family that is patient with him as he gets more comfortable with them. Chong recently returned to the shelter after spending a couple of weeks with a foster family while recovering from his neuter surgery. Here is what his foster mom shared about him: "Chong loves to cuddle and nuzzle up to me while sitting on the couch watching a movie. He would love to sleep on the bed next to you. He's pretty much a couch potato unless he's following me around while I'm doing chores. Every now and again he likes to grab a soft small toy and run around the yard—but definitely not the ones that squeak, because the noise scares him. Because I was watchful of him and paid attention to his queues, he only had one accident inside the house on his first day in my home. After that he never had an accident in the house." Chong does well with other dogs and does not mind the office cat. Please note that Chong is sensitive to cigarette smoke and gets terrified around people who smoke. To ensure his well-being, we require a strictly smoke-free home for his adoption. Chong has come a long way and will be ready for his new forever home soon! If you are interested in learning more or setting up a time to meet him, please let us know. All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped and spayed or neutered (if they are old enough) before they leave the shelter. If the dog is not old enough, you will be given a voucher for Animal Medical Center in Emmett to cover the cost of the spay or neuter and a one year rabies vaccine. This 8-year-old Chihuahua mix is looking for a calm home where he can settle in at his own pace and let his true personality shine. Bolt is a bit undersocialized and can be unsure in new situations, so he'll need a family that's patient and willing to let him build trust. Because of this, we recommend a home with kids 8 and older, and a mandatory meet and greet is required. He's also not a fan of small children, so a quieter household will help him feel most comfortable. Bolt arrived with his buddy Storm, but these two are looking for separate homes where each can soak up all the love and attention they deserve. He'll be neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations before heading home. If you're ready to earn the trust of a little dog with a big heart, Bolt is ready to meet you!

Chihuahua mix, you say?!? Embark says I’m 2% chihuahua, but don’t hold it against me! Hi, I’m Benji! I’m about 4 years old, and if there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s that I LOVE my people. Being with my humans is my favorite place to be, and I have more than enough love to fill your whole heart — I promise to give it back to you tenfold. I’m a happy, goofy guy who believes life is better when you’re having fun. I love playing fetch and tug, carrying around stuffed animals, going for short walks, riding in the car, relaxing on cozy couches, getting snuggles and generally finding ways to make my people smile. I’m also pretty talented at being completely ridiculous... including being upside down. I’m happiest when I’m hanging out with my people, whether we’re playing, snuggling, relaxing, or just spending time together. I adore human company and can happily entertain myself at home while my person is at work, too, no problem. I’m a young guy, but I do have some arthritis struggles, so I’ll need a family who understands that my body needs a little extra care. I’ll need regular veterinary care throughout my life, nutritious food, help maintaining a healthy weight, and gentle, light exercise to help keep me comfortable, active, and feeling my best. Short walks and playtime are perfect for me — I don’t need to be an athlete to be happy! One important thing about me: I need to be your one-and-only pet. I have plenty of love to give and would be happiest being the only furry member of the family. In return, you’ll get a devoted companion who will happily make you the center of his world. I’ve been waiting a very, very long time for my forever family. Green Heart Rescue pulled me from an overcrowded California shelter when I was facing an approaching euthanasia deadline, and I’ve been waiting ever since for someone to finally say, “You’re home.” I don’t need a perfect family. I just need my family. Someone who will love my goofy personality, appreciate my big heart, take care of my special needs, and let me be the happy, silly, affectionate boy I am.
