Story
Woody's owner passed away, leaving him and his brother with no place to go. Woody was very spoiled. He is missing all the attention and spoiling he was accustomed to. Sadly his brother got adopted without him. Woody is such a kind and loving dog. He would benefit from having an active family to help him shed some excess weight. But as long as he gets lots of love he will be a happy dog.

Story
Meet Frida! Frida is a 2-year-old petite chihuahua/possibly vizsla mix who came to us caring for a large litter of pups. She was such a good mama, but now it's her turn to shine! We think her small, girlish figure and shiny coat make her a very appealing pup for riding shotgun in the car, long walks, a couch pal...you name it! Frida came to us heartworm positive. We are seeking a foster to adopt home so she can get her treatment while she recovers with her new family. At ITAV, there are several other heartworm positive dogs looking for their foster to adopt homes. Why foster? These treatments are not fun. Being in a shelter is not fun. We want these boys and girls to be in a home where they can experience the warmth and care of a human while we are working closely with them through recovery. Rather than spending these months of treatment in a stressful shelter environment, we would like that time to be spent becoming part of their new family and adjusting to their new life and loved ones. Wondering what to expect for heartworm treatment? The average heartworm treatment plan is 4 months long. Fosters administer daily oral medication, make just a few visits to our vet clinic in Muscatine for treatments, and restrict the foster dog's physical activity during crucial parts of treatment. This means no running/active playing and taking only short walks on leash while outside. During this period, we provide enrichment ideas and supplies to keep the pups happy during the extra kennel time as well. Heartworm comes from mosquitos and is not transmissible from dog to dog. Often times the dogs we treat are not even symptomatic, but their diagnosis shows up during our routine blood testing of all dogs 9 months or older. Story
Hi, my name is Poppy. I'm estimated to be 5 years old. I'm a sweet girl. While in my temporary foster home, I've enjoyed getting to know my new pup friends and the kitties. I love playing with the kids and I've done great with hanging out in the crate for bedtime and when home alone. I know sit. I also dance for treats. When I want held, I rub my humans rubs legs like a cat and then I stand on my hind legs for attention. Poppy came to us heartworm positive. We are seeking a foster to adopt home so she can finish her treatment while she recovers with her new family. She has actually received all of her injections, and is just waiting for final testing and then will be medically cleared. We expect that to take another 30 days. Once she is cleared, the adoption will be completed, and Poppy will be a permanent member of your family! If you are interested in adding Poppy to your family please complete this foster application using this link. https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/foster/ITAV/Dog

Story
Introducing Rose, the 3-year-old Chihuahua mix with a heart full of love and just enough sass in her attitude! Despite my petite size, I have a larger-than-life personality that will brighten your days. At around 8lbs, I'm ideal for being carried around and pampered, making me the perfect snuggle buddy. To bring out the best in me, a little bit of exercise and some positive reinforcement-based training keeps my mind sprite and my heart eager. Sweet Rose came to us heartworm positive. Story
Meet Esperanza the 2-year-old chihuahua mix. This girl teeters at 20lbs, just the right size to pal around with! This sprite gal is quite the character, her favorite trick is stealing the chair from her human. Bring her home for a dose of daily entertainment from this sweet-natured girl.
