**Please scroll down and read the entire bio before emailing with questions. We will not respond to emails that ask questions already in the bio of the pet or generic questions of 'how old is it?', 'can I get more information?', 'oh it's so cute', etc. You must fill out an application in order to schedule an appointment. Here is a link to our online application https://almosthomenm.rescueivey.com/apply/adopt The application can also be found and downloaded from our main website https://almosthomenm.org/available-for-adoption   Once you have filled out an application please watch your emails to schedule an appointment. Please be aware we do not hold dogs until an appointment to meet them is scheduled.     Sweetest little baby ever!  Approximate DOB 5/25/2025 – Will be about 8-12 lbs as an adult Toffee along with his siblings Taffy and Tootsie were part of a large hoarding case(Chihuahuas, Miniature Pinschers, Dachshunds, and Toy Fox Terriers). Their mom was a tiny Chihuahua about 6 lbs but we do not know which dog/s was/were the dad/s. The largest dog from this case was about 14 lbs. We don't expect any of the babies from this litter to get over 14 lbs. These babies are very outgoing, sweet, and playful. This little guy has more of a Dachshund body and is very small.  Working on house training. They are currently in an x-pen with puppy pads, their bed, toys, and their food and water. They seem to use one corner of their puppy pads in the pen so that is good.  These babies have also started going outside to potty pretty regularly and are doing great. Toffee has a long body and little legs with large perked ears. He is very outgoing, playful, and very sweet. He should have a very active family that can help him burn off all that energy. He loves toys and is very treat motivated but his favorite thing is exploring and following his favorite person around all the time. He has been raised with children, dogs, and cats in the foster home and loves everyone he meets. He is an absolute gem who will make a wonderful addition to any family wanting a sweet little boy that loves to snuggle up after a day of exploring.  Spayed/neutered, microchipped, and current on all vaccinations - Fee $275 We do welcome out-of-state adoptions. Adopters would need to be able to come out to meet/adopt the pet.  Send an email to request the application or you can download it from the main site www.almosthomenm.org and email it to adopt@almosthomenm.org Dogs are seen by appointment only after an application has been submitted and approved. If you have other dogs it is recommended you bring them out to the meeting but not required. If you are not ready to adopt (vacation/travel planned and don't want to put your new pet in boarding, in the middle of a move, etc) please wait to schedule an appointment until you are ready.  Steps for adoption: Read bio, email to request application or download it from the main website, fill it out completely and email it back, once approved you will receive an email asking you when you would like to come out to meet the pet, schedule an appointment, directions will be emailed or text to you. Adoption fees are cash only.   If you would like to help with rescue by providing monetary support for vetting, snacks, and toys for the dogs in our program while they wait for their happily ever afters we would truly appreciate it. Story
I bought Maxie when he was a puppy , Ive had him for almost 6 years now . Iam unable to have him anymore for the next reasons 1. I have a toddler and currently gave birth to triplets . 2. He is potty trained but due to the fact that I don’t have enough time for him he tends to pee inside he will not let me know he needs to go outside sometimes because he doesn’t like do be around my toddler he is just not a kids dog , he plays with my toddlers once in a while but most of the time he doesn’t like to be around him ( he seems to be scared ) kids can be a little to much . He loves to go for walks he loves to play fetch and loves treats . He knows when he does wrong and when he does good . If interested in adopting I would prefer for it to be a couple or someone that is retired that can give him the attention he doesn’t get here at home .

Story
Nemo is an adorable 2-year-old black-and-white neutered Chihuahua mix who is ready to find a loving, committed forever family. He’s a gentle, affectionate little guy who thrives on closeness. If you’re looking for a constant companion who wants to curl up in your lap and soak up attention, he’s your match. He gets along well with other dogs, especially those who don’t mind his playful energy. He’s potty trained, rarely barks, and communicates mostly with a soft, high-pitched whine when he wants affection. He’s very timid, so he’ll need someone who can let him come to them on his own terms. He doesn’t enjoy being picked up and is nervous in the car. Because of his sensitivity, he will do best in an adult-only home without small children. He loves rolling in the grass, going on walks, and most of all, being cuddled. He is looking for a new forever home because I am away 10+ hours each day and he is lonely after my son and his dog moved out last month.
