Extremely sweet and HUGE lap lover. She is a little timid when first meeting new people but warms up quickly. She is much more fearful of men and takes longer to feel safe around a man. She will need patience and understanding while transitioning to a new home. She is only 10 pounds! She has never been separated from her sister "Minnie," and they love to play and snuggle together. Please consider adopting them as a pair. *Sweetie & Margie are now in a foster home. Meet & Greets can be arranged for approved applicants. Two hearts, searching for one home! Sweetie and Margie would love to stay together and here is a little bit about each of them!  If they sound like a good fit for you, please send in your application!Sadly, they lost their person and no one from the family could take them in.Sweetie, a Chihuahua mix is a pocket-sized cutie, around 4 years old. Because she barks and grumbles she might seem mean, but really she’s just scared at first. She loves to be held and cuddled by someone who makes her feel safe. Otherwise, you will find her curled up hiding under a blanket. She loves her chew bones and may protect them, but never guards her food (this behavior is able to be improved with training & management!). She uses puppy pads and prefers to be an indoor-only dog. When you’re this tiny, the world outside can seem like a scary place! All she wants is to feel safe and loved!Margie is a typical terrier and likes to bark to alert you to, well, lots of things! This 2-3 year old girl loves attention and would be content just cuddling all day long. She can be a little forceful with her affection! She doesn’t understand personal space and just gets so excited to give lots of love and kisses. Everyone could use more love in their lives, right? She is also puppy pad trained and dog-friendly.*Approved applicants are welcome to participate in our popular Slumber Party program and take a dog home for up to 2 weeks to make sure he/she is a great fit.  If you think you might be interested in adopting, your first step should be to complete an Adoption Application at www.caninerescue.org. *After you have completed your application, you will get a confirmation that we have received your application. It takes a lot of time to process the applications, so we ask for your patience while we do so. If you see that the dog you were interested in has been adopted it means there were many applications for that dog and we did not get as far processing your application before a home was found. We welcome you to apply again when you see another dog that interests you. If you have a question, please email us at adoptions@caninerescue.org. It is much easier and quicker for us to respond by email as we receive many phone calls each day.We do adopt out of state, however we do not transport or ship dogs. Potential adopters must be able and willing to travel to the Rescue to meet the dog they are interested in.*PLEASE double check all of the phone numbers that you provide. If they are incorrect, we will not be able to process your application. Please also let your references know that someone from NCCR will be calling them. Most adoption team members call from their personal phone, so advise your references that there may be an unknown or private number calling them. Thank you!

Story
Hi there, I’m Asher, a gentle little gentleman with a soft heart and an old soul. I’m a super senior Chihuahua mix, just 12 pounds, and I’ve got that quiet, tender kind of charm that makes people want to protect me and give me a safe place to live out my golden years. Life is a little blurry to me these days, and I may not hear so well either, so I can get startled if I’m caught off guard. Because of that, I take things slowly and would love a calm home where I can feel safe and understood. I’m a true couch potato (although I want to stay safely on the floor) — minimal exercise needed — and I’m happiest with cozy routines, gentle company, and soft blankets. I am not a lap dog, thank you. But I’m independent and easy to care for, already house trained, very quiet (I’ve never made a sound), and I sleep reliably nine hours overnight with no accidents. I’ve also done well with other dogs and cats in testing; I get along with dogs of any size as long as they don’t run me over! I don’t bother toys, bones or household items — I mostly eat, potty, and sleep — and I absolutely adore dog beds and treats of any kind. I’m still polishing a few manners: I’m learning to increase the time between potty breaks — I do ask to go about every two hours during the day and will stand and stare at you when I want out (if you dawdle I may not always wait!). I’m crate-trained with no accidents there and I’m learning to use a ramp so I don’t risk falling down stairs. I don’t love being petted yet, but I’m beginning to tolerate gentle contact and I’m slowly warming up to the idea of a soft scratch. When leashed, I'll come along a bit but no long walks, please. The world is just too scary. What you’ll get with me is a nap-loving, independent, quiet companion with a veteran’s calm and a heart of gold. If you have a soft spot for seniors and a cozy dog bed I can snooze in, I might just be your perfect, slightly-starry-eyed fellow. I'm told I'm the sweetest old man ever. Asher's adoption fee is $225. You can learn more about Asher and other dogs at Happy Bark by visiting www.happybark.org PA Kennel License 17445

Story
Hi, I’m Trixie! I’m a 6 year old Chihuahua/Pug mix with 21 pounds of personality packed into one very cute little package. I recently found myself looking for a new home after my family went through a major life change, so now I’m ready to find someone who will make me part of their everyday life. I do well with both dogs and cats. I’m happy to share my space, but I do appreciate a little respect from my canine friends. If another dog gets too bouncy and jumps on me, I may give them a quick warning to mind their manners. Fair enough, right? Otherwise, I get along just fine. I think I’d make a wonderful companion for someone who likes a sweet little dog with a bit of confidence and character. At six, I’m past the puppy stage and ready to settle into a home where I can enjoy being someone’s beloved girl. Take one look at my happy face and tell me you don’t want to come meet me. Trixie's adoption fee is $275. You can learn more about Trixie and other dogs at Happy Bark by visiting www.happybark.org PA Kennel License 17445

Story
Hi, I’m Marley, a 6-year-old Chihuahua/Pug mix with a gentle little soul and a very cute set of ears. I’m 15 pounds, so I’m just the right size to tuck in beside you while we watch the world go by. That’s pretty much my speed, too. I’m a lower-energy girl who likes to take everything in rather than rush through life. My family surrendered me when their life changed, so I’m ready for a fresh start with someone who will appreciate what a sweet girl I am. I passed all my testing with other dogs and even cats, and while fleas caused some hair loss for rme, everyone thinks my coat will grow back very nicely. For now, I consider it part of my “before” picture. I’m not looking for a complicated life. I’d be pretty happy having my person nearby, enjoying a relaxed day and knowing I’m home for good. If a mellow little companion with a sweet face sounds like your kind of girl, I think we should meet. Marley's adoption fee is $275.
