Story
Foxy (formerly Toffee) was transferred from an overcrowded facility to give her a better chance at finding her forever family. She is still a puppy, thought to be around 4-5 months old and weighing just over 6 lbs. Foxy is likely to stay relatively small, but will gain some weight and height over the next few months. She is believed to be a mix of Dachshund and Chihuahua – affectionately known as a Chiweenie! As with all puppies, she will need ongoing training, plenty of attention and playtime, and some extra patience and love to help her become the best dog she can be. If a petite pup is your ideal companion, look no further! *Foxy is in foster care. Meet & Greets can be arranged for approved applicants. *Approved applicants are welcome to participate in our popular Slumber Party program and take a dog home for up to 2 weeks to make sure he/she is a great fit. If you think you might be interested in adopting, your first step should be to complete an Adoption Application at www.caninerescue.org. *After you have completed your application, you will get a confirmation that we have received your application. It takes a lot of time to process the applications, so we ask for your patience while we do so. If you see that the dog you were interested in has been adopted it means there were many applications for that dog and we did not get as far processing your application before a home was found. We welcome you to apply again when you see another dog that interests you. If you have a question, please email us at adoptions@caninerescue.org. It is much easier and quicker for us to respond by email as we receive many phone calls each day. We do adopt out of state, however we do not transport or ship dogs. Potential adopters must be able and willing to travel to the Rescue to meet the dog they are interested in. *PLEASE double check all of the phone numbers that you provide. If they are incorrect, we will be unable to process your application. Please also let your references know that someone from NCCR will be calling them. Most adoption team members call from their personal phone, so advise your references that there may be an unknown or private number calling them. Thank you! Foxy is too young to be spayed. Her adoption fee is $200 and an additional $200 deposit is required, which will be refunded upon proof of spaying Date of Arrival: February 2026 Breeds: Chihuahua and Dachshund Age & Weight: 4-5 months and currently about 6 lbs. Health info: She will have had age appropriate vaccinations and a microchip provided.

Story
Well hello darlin, I am Freckles, the slightly bigger half of this adorable duo. Ten whole pounds of love and devotion, thank you very much. If you are looking at my pictures and thinking, that little girl has the sweetest face, you would be absolutely right. Chicklet and I came into rescue together after being picked up as strays. We waited and waited while the nice folks made sure everyone had a chance to find us. Our pictures were shared, our story was told, but no one ever came. It is a mystery, because we are just about the most trusting, affectionate girls you will ever meet. From the very first day, we leaned right in for love. No growling, no sass, just soft eyes and wagging tails. I am between two and three years old, just a young lady with my whole life ahead of me. I am mostly housebroken, though like many little bitty pups, I can have a small oops here and there. I promise I try my best. I am a very good girl who truly wants to please. If you want to know my favorite thing, it is being close. Curled up next to Chicklet, tucked into a cozy blanket, or perched beside you soaking up attention, that is my happy place. Chicklet is my best friend in the whole world. We nap together, explore together, and give each other confidence. The volunteers say we seem bonded, and it would mean everything to us to find a forever home where we can stay side by side. I have a gentle spirit and a tender heart. I will look at you like you are the best thing that has ever happened to me, because you will be. I do not need fancy things, just patience, kindness, and a lap I can call my own. In return, you will get ten pounds of loyalty, sweetness, and unconditional love. If your home feels like it might be missing two tiny shadows to follow you around and adore you, Chicklet and I are ready to fill that space with joy. Freckles's adoption fee is $275. Story
Well hello there, my name is Chicklet, and yes maam, I am the little black doggie you see in these pictures. Eight and a half pounds of pure sweetness, if I do say so myself. I may be small, but my heart is mighty big. I came to Happy Bark with my best friend Freckles (also in some of the pictures). We were picked up as strays, taken in by animal control, and waited and waited for someone to come looking for us. Weeks went by, our pictures were shared, our names were called, but no one ever came. It is hard to understand, because we are just about the most loving little pair you will ever meet. Maybe once upon a time we had a family, maybe life changed for them, we just do not know. What I do know is that from the very first day we arrived, we trusted everyone we met. No growling, no fussing, just hopeful little hearts ready to love again. I am somewhere between two and three years old, just a young lady in my prime. I am mostly housebroken, though I will admit that every now and then I have a tiny oops moment. Hey, I am only eight and a half pounds, little dogs like me try our best. Overall I am a very good girl. Freckles and I are very close. We curl up together, we nap together, we explore together. We give each other confidence and comfort. The nice folks here say we seem bonded, and they would really love for us to find a forever home together. I cannot imagine life without my buddy by my side. What I can imagine is this, a cozy couch, gentle hands, soft voices telling me I am a good girl. I will look up at you with my big eyes and promise to give you all the love in my tiny body. I do not need much, just kindness, attention, and a place where I belong. If you have room in your heart for a sweet little shadow who will follow you from room to room and adore you every single day, I am right here waiting. And if you can open your heart to Freckles too, well that would make my whole world complete. Chicklet's adoption fee is $275. Story
He needs someone who can spend more time than I have available. I’m going to school full time while also being a full time solo mom. He came to me from someone who supposedly had him pad trained but he never was consistent, and I tried to train him outside but he refuses to go outside here(busy street constant traffic scares him). He absolutely hates being home alone but has to be in a crate because he freaks out and scratches door ways. He also hates the crate he barks the whole time I’m gone. He just isn’t happy and I don’t have the knowledge or skills to deal with the separation anxiety or house training issues. He’s a good dog otherwise. I just can’t have him peeing and pooping wherever with a toddler. He needs way more time than I can give him and he deserves someone who can maybe be with him all day training and caring for him. He would do better with someone who needs a companion but also has patience and knowledge on training and separation anxiety issues.

Story
Carter is a 1 year old, male, Chihuahua mix surrendered to the rescue due to his family moving and unable to take Carter with them. Poor Carter was quite frightened of this new environment and it took him some time to warm up to the volunteers. He really enjoys going on walks and once in awhile doing zoomies in the play yard.. This little guy needs a patient, quiet home with a soft gentle touch to give him direction, praise and love. Carter weighs 14 lbs and is now neutered and current on vaccines. For more information or to meet Carter please contact Tri-County Animal Rescue ( kennel license # 8704)
