Pookie & Roxy – Bonded Pair ❤️ Pookie and Roxy are sweet Chihuahua mixes looking for their forever home together. Pookie is a tiny 5.4 lb male, while Roxy is a 24 lb female who could stand to lose a few pounds! 😆 These two find comfort in each other and are happiest side by side. They are low-maintenance, quiet, affectionate little companions who would love a cozy home, soft beds, and someone to love them for the rest of their lives. 🐾 We would love to keep Pookie & Roxy together.

Sparrow is a 7‑year‑old Pug/Chihuahua mix weighing 15 pounds, and she’s as gentle and affectionate as they come. This sweet‑natured girl loves nothing more than belly rubs, a good scratch behind her ears, and a warm lap to snuggle on. She thrives on human affection and is happiest when she’s close to her people. Sparrow gets along well with the dogs in her social group, enjoying their company while still preferring quiet moments of one‑on‑one attention. Her calm, loving demeanor makes her a wonderful companion for someone looking for a tender, devoted little friend. Sparrow has Cushing’s disease, which means she will require lifelong medication to keep her healthy and comfortable. She handles her routine well, and with proper care, she can continue to live a happy, full life.

Sandy is a sweet 10‑year‑old Chihuahua mix who is searching for a very special home. She is a shy girl who needs someone patient and understanding—someone willing to earn her trust at her own pace. Sandy will require lifelong heart medications (approximately $100/month) and joint supplements, but with the right care, she can live comfortably and happily. Once she feels safe, Sandy enjoys a good scratch behind her ears and loves snuggling into a soft plush bed. Because of her size and timid nature, Sandy needs a home with no children under 12.

Little Bit is an 8‑year‑old Chihuahua mix weighing 16 pounds with a tender heart and a gentle soul. She came to us from a hoarding situation and is currently carrying a few extra pounds, so she’s looking for a loving home that will help her slim down through mild, regular exercise and a healthy routine. She can be a bit shy at first, but once Little Bit earns your trust, she blossoms into an affectionate companion who loves being close to her person. She thrives on quiet companionship and would do best with someone who understands her need for patience and reassurance. Little Bit will do best in a family with no children under the age of 12.

Temperament:  timid at first but once she warms up, she is very sweet and friendly. Energy level:  low Groom needs:  medium maintenance;  she's got wiry hair that just needs brushing from time to time, along with a bath. Biography:  Queso came in with Brulee.  We were contacted by the out-of-state sister of a woman and her husband who were arrested (details will be given to an approved adopter once they are placed for adoption).  It's kind of a long story how she ended up contacting us, but she thought one of the six dogs was adopted from us.  Come to find out, that wasn't the case.  We took in a stray in January, posted the dog on social media and the dog was reclaimed by the couple.  So, the dog wasn't adopted from us, but reclaimed from us.  When dogs are reclaimed, we have them sign a reclamation form and in that form it states that if they ever want to rehome the dog, to please contact us first.  So, this is how we ended up involved.  Nevertheless, the couple gave the sister permission to find places for all the dogs.  We took in two, two went to a family friend and the other two went to another rescue.   We don't have much information about their habits.  We do know they lived inside their home with several other dogs, cats, chickens and ducks (if you can imagine the scene).  In any case, they are both very sweet and have acclimated nicely to our rescue environment, the people in and out and the other dogs.  They should each acclimate quickly to a new home.  Due to the chaotic environment they lived in, we'd prefer a quiet and peaceful home for each of them.   **WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW** *We do adopt out of state provided the adopter is willing and able to travel to us once approved.  We do not ship or transport our animals and there is no exception to this rule. *Most of our adoptable dogs are small, and they are never to be left outside alone, ever!  We only rehome our dogs to adopters that plan to have them as inside dogs and part of the family!   We do allow adopters with doggie doors, provided there is SECURE fencing and the dog is over 15 pounds.  There is no exception to this rule! *PREDATORS:    IF THIS DOG IS UNDER 10 POUNDS, the dog is to be monitored and protected when outside at all times!  PREDATOR-THREAT IS A REAL DANGER!  For example, a hawk tried to pick up a Chihuahua owned by a friend visiting Ninna’s house… RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE VISITOR.  Thankfully the visitor was watching the dog and the hawk was wrestled off of the Chihuahua but it did require an ER visit and she is was very lucky to survive.   TAKE IT SERIOUSLY!   *NO SMALL CHILDREN!!  As with almost all the dogs at NR2R, young children or a very active household is not recommended.   Many of our dogs come to us BECAUSE of small children, thus we do not rehome our dogs to homes with babies or young children.  KEEP THIS IN MIND IF YOU HAVE VISITING GRANDCHILDREN AS WELL!  Even if the children are older, it would depend on the child AND the parent or parents.  *HOUSETRAINING:  We do NOT guarantee that any of our adoptable dogs are housetrained.   While most should be easily trained, keep in mind that they live in a rescue where they have access to the outdoors all day and are inside at night.  Even if they were surrendered to us as housetrained, it doesn’t mean they will automatically be housetrained in your home.  Housetraining them should be easy in the right home with time, patience, and consistency.  *KENNELING:  We always recommend kenneling when you cannot supervise your dog.  This helps with housetraining and any destructive tendencies until you get to know your new addition. *We do not guarantee the age, health or temperament of any of the dogs we rehome.  Many of the dogs we take in come from animal control and rarely do we have histories and even when we do, many times the histories are inaccurate. *Only adopters with a responsible dog ownership history and excellent vet reference need apply.   If you bring this pet into your heart and home, you will receive in return many years of love, companionship, and loyalty.  That’s our guarantee.   Other notes:  This pet is available for adoption through Ninna’s Road to Rescue, Benton, La.  We are 501c3 non-profit organization.  Our mission is to rescue primarily small-breed dogs and to re-home them into RESPONSIBLE and CARING forever homes.    DOG APPLICATION LINK:   http://www.roadtorescuela.org/dog-application Time may be of the essence if you are looking to adopt a specific animal.  We do not reserve animals, unless and until we have approved your application, provided the animal is still available at the time we receive your application.  The first APPROVED application we receive will be considered.  We are NOT a first come, first serve rescue!!
