Story
*This animal is a part of our “Seniors for Seniors” program where we offer senior adopters an opportunity to adopt an eligible pet at a discounted fee.* Meet Chester—the adorable little mystery mutt with soulful eyes, a charming personality, and a second chance at the life he deserves! Chester was found as a stray over the Fourth of July weekend, so his past is a bit of a mystery. We don't know exactly what breed he is or what his life was like before rescue, but every day he's showing us more of the wonderful dog he's becoming. Like many dogs who have had a rough start, Chester can be a little cautious when meeting new people. He appreciates slow introductions, a little patience, and—most importantly—a pocket full of treats! Once he knows you're a friend, his sweet personality starts to shine. He also gets along well with other dogs and may enjoy having a confident canine companion to help show him the ropes. Chester is crate trained, keeps his crate nice and clean, and walks beautifully on a leash. His foster family is still learning exactly how he signals that he needs to go outside, but as long as he's taken out on a regular schedule, he does very well. He does still mark indoors at times, which isn't uncommon for a recently neutered male. His foster family is successfully managing this with belly bands while he settles in, and we're hopeful that with time, consistency, and training, the marking will continue to improve. When Chester first arrived in rescue, he was dealing with eye and ear infections, kennel cough, and a skin condition that may be related to allergies. Thanks to great veterinary care and lots of TLC, he's already feeling and looking so much better! His adopters should know that his skin allergies may require ongoing management throughout his life, but Chester takes it all in stride and is more than ready to focus on enjoying life. Chester is searching for a patient family that will celebrate his progress, continue building his confidence, and give him the stable, loving home he's been missing. In return, you'll get a loyal little companion who's already proven that he's resilient, eager to learn, and ready to blossom. Could Chester be the missing piece your family has been waiting for? ---- Adopting a senior dog is like getting a vintage car – it comes with character, a few extra quirks, and might need a bit more maintenance. Expect occasional tune ups at the vet for oil changes (aka meds), and embrace the fact that those 'normal lumps and bumps' are just part of the well-earned charm package! Ruff Start will share all known health information with adopters and recommendations to keep your Senior dog in top shape.

Story
Location: Sioux Falls, SD Meet Zoey: The Sweetest Little Soul You’ll Ever Have the Privilege of Knowing Zoey’s story didn’t begin the way she deserved. This tiny 5lb. senior Chihuahua came to rescue blind, frightened, and carrying the weight of a life that wasn’t always kind. But every day, she’s showing us something remarkable: the incredible resilience of a dog who has decided to trust again. Zoey isn’t looking for adventure, she’s looking for peace. Her favorite things are soft blankets, cozy naps, constant pets, and simply being close to the people she loves. Once she feels safe, she’ll happily melt into your arms or curl up beside you for hours. Her little tail has started wagging more often, she's following her nose when the scent of food is around, and every sign of trust feels like a victory worth celebrating. Being blind doesn’t slow Zoey down nearly as much as you’d think. She learns her surroundings quickly, follows familiar voices, and navigates life with her nose, her ears, and a quiet confidence that grows a more every day. Now that she has had her dental needs cared for as well, she is feeling healthy and strong! All she asks is a predictable home and someone patient enough to let her discover that she’s finally truly safe. Zoey would thrive in a calm home where she can enjoy the simple things in life. She’s well past the puppy stage, past the chaos, and past the need to prove anything. She simply wants to spend her golden years being cherished. If you’ve ever believed that love isn’t measured in years but in moments, Zoey may be the dog you’ve been waiting for. She has spent enough of her life surviving. Now she’s ready to spend the rest of it being someone’s beloved little shadow. --------------- The best way to show interest in an animal is to submit an adoption application by visiting our website (www.rescuenetworkmn.org). Location: Foster to Adopt option! Can be fostered in MN, SD, IA, WI, or NE *ARRIVING IN SEPTEMBER 19TH FROM GEORGIA* Meet Otter! 🦦🐾 Otter is an 8-week-old sweetheart with a gentle soul. While he can be a little shy at first, it doesn’t take long before he’s curled up in your lap asking for cuddles. His favorite toy is anything that crinkles, and when he’s finished playing, you’ll usually find him snuggled up with his people or his brother. Otter had a rough start to life. When he was found, he was incredibly sick and malnourished. Thanks to lots of love and care, he’s made an amazing recovery and is now the happy, healthy puppy he was always meant to be. Now all he needs is a forever family to love him. 🤍 For more information on FTA, visit: https://rescuenetworkmn.org/foster-to-adopt/ --------------- The best way to show interest in an animal is to submit an adoption application by visiting our website (www.rescuenetworkmn.org).
