The Animal Rescue Project (www.animalrescueproject.org) is committed to the best possible veterinary care for the pets it rescues and it is looking for adopters who will be similarly committed. Adoptions are NOT first come, first served! We seek to choose the best fit for the approved adopter and pet. We will try our best to get them updated online as soon as possible. All dogs and puppies are given a general check-up when they enter our program. They receive medication to remove any intestinal parasites (worms), fleas, and ticks they may have. Dogs greater than six months of age are checked for heartworm. If heartworm positive, the Animal Rescue Project treats the disease. Dogs and pups receive all age-appropriate vaccinations for distemper, and dogs greater than four months of age are also vaccinated for rabies, in compliance with State of Michigan laws. All dogs are also microchipped. Most dogs and older puppies are spayed or neutered before adoption. In the case of puppies not old enough to be safely sterilized, a $50 deposit is required at the time of adoption and is refunded to the adopter with proof of sterilization. The Animal Rescue Project requires every adopter to establish an active relationship with a veterinarian no later than 10 days after adoption. Adopters will receive a plan for routine veterinary care at the time of adoption and are expected to work with their vet to complete the plan

“Hi, Truman! I am a lab mix and I am 12 years old. I love taking naps, lying outdoors, eating treats, going for car rides and short walks. I would love to meet you and see if I would be the right fit for your family!” - Truman Truman would do best as the only dog in the home and with older or no children. He does well living with cats, if they will tolerate a dog. He is a lover and we are looking for a home where he can spend his remaining years relaxing and being loved on.

Story
This is Tater, he is a little over a year old. Definitely a big pup with lots of energy that loves to go to dog parks and dog beaches. I got him when he was younger not knowing how big he was going to get and how much energy he was going to have. Looking to re-home him to a home that can let him run around more, more space just because i did not have that and he is a bigger pup. One thing he can definitely use more training on is when left inside for a long period of time he tends to chew up things. Other than that he is a good boy just wants more play time.

Story
Oso is a 5-year-old shepherd mix with a big heart and an even bigger personality. This goofy, loving boy is always up for an adventure-whether that's hitting the trail, chasing a ball, or cuddling up on the couch after a long day. Oso is very well-trained and ready to impress: he's leash trained, place-bed trained, crate trained, and even has reliable off-leash skills with an e-collar. He enjoys playing games like hide and seek/"find it" and he enjoys to run on the treadmill. He gets along well with other dogs and enjoys the occasional day at doggy daycare. As a shepherd mix, Oso can be barrier-reactive (windows, fences, leashes), and he tends to be an anxious guy in busy environments. Because of this, he must go to a home without young children. We are heartbroken that Oso is not doing well with the stress of us having a second child and we are searching for a new loving home for him. He needs a calmer environment where he can relax and thrive.
