The Animal Rescue Project (www.animalrescueproject.org) is committed to the best possible veterinary care for the pets it rescues and it is looking for adopters who will be similarly committed. Adoptions are NOT first come, first served! We seek to choose the best fit for the approved adopter and pet. Please understand that these animals are still new to us and their needs and requirements can change at any time as we learn more about them. We will try our best to get them updated online as soon as possible. All dogs and puppies are given a general check-up when they enter our program. They receive medication to remove any intestinal parasites (worms), fleas, and ticks they may have. Dogs greater than six months of age are checked for heartworm. If heartworm positive, the Animal Rescue Project treats the disease. Dogs and pups receive all age-appropriate vaccinations for distemper, and dogs greater than four months of age are also vaccinated for rabies, in compliance with State of Michigan laws. All dogs are also microchipped. Most dogs and older puppies are spayed or neutered before adoption. In the case of puppies not old enough to be safely sterilized, a $50 deposit is required at the time of adoption and is refunded to the adopter with proof of sterilization. The Animal Rescue Project requires every adopter to establish an active relationship with a veterinarian no later than 10 days after adoption. Adopters will receive a plan for routine veterinary care at the time of adoption and are expected to work with their vet to complete the plan

Story
Rossie is a gentle soul with a big heart and a waggy tail. His early life was incredibly hard; he was rescued from a dog-fighting ring, where he was used as a bait dog, but you'd never know it from how sweet and affectionate he is. He loves couch cuddles, slow strolls, and being part of a family. Rossie has lived peacefully with dogs, cats, and kids his whole life. He does have a limp and some issues with his back left leg, and he can get anxious when left alone for long periods, so a home with someone around most of the time would help him feel safe. Ideally Rossie would be adopted with the dog he currently lives with, Kessler who is also listed on this site, but the two are not a bonded pair, so they could be adopted separately. Rossie's original adopter, the mother of their family passed away suddenly, so the family no longer has enough resources to keep their dogs.

Story
“Hi, Truman! I am a lab mix and I am 12 years old. I love taking naps, lying outdoors, eating treats, going for car rides and short walks. I would love to meet you and see if I would be the right fit for your family!” - Truman Truman would do best as the only dog in the home and with older or no children. He does well living with cats, if they will tolerate a dog. He is a lover and we are looking for a home where he can spend his remaining years relaxing and being loved on.

Story
Kessler is a little lovebug with pure snuggle energy. Her absolute favorite place in the world is your lap, soaking up pets and attention. She still has a playful spark and adores her stuffy toys, but she's just as happy curling up for an afternoon nap. Kessler is wonderful with other dogs, kids, and even cats. She does have some separation anxiety, so she'd fit best with someone who's doesn't leave her at home for long periods and wants a loyal little shadow by their side. Kessler's original adopter, the mother of the family passed away suddenly, and the family no longer has enough support to keep their two dogs. The other dog is named Rossie, and he is also listed on this site. Ideally the two would be adopted together, but they are not a bonded pair, so can be adopted separately.
