Although my shelter stay wasn't the best experience, I've been doing great at CARL's kennel facility.I'm good with other dogs and enjoy playgroup time at the kennel. It's unknown at this time if I get along with other dogs, cats or children. A CARL volunteer said I needed a little time to warm up to new people when I first came to CARL, but now I'm more social. I'm sure it had to do with having been picked up as a stray and then being taken to a shelter where I didn't know what fate awaited me. The volunteer said I'm leash trained and nice looking too.I can't wait to find my forever home and be someone's loyal companion. Breed: Chow DOB: 7/9/2022 Gender: female Altered: yes Coat: long Size: medium Color(s): black Description: Hi, I'm Nellie, an affectionate and loving Chow that loves to play with my 3 foster siblings. I still have my sassy Chow moments, but I am eager to learn and continue to grow into the amazing dog I am today. I came to CARL as a very fearful and not socialized puppy, but my foster family took the time to gain my trust and teach me new things, which has allowed me to flourish and become more sociable and outgoing, but I still am slightly nervous and reserved with new people. I will still definitely need continued socialization and structure/consistency to ensure I maintain my confidence and overcome my shyness and nervousness. The more I learn and trust, the less nervous I am. I am currently living with 3 other dogs, and we get along. I am definitely looking to be the alpha, which doesn't always agree with other alphas in the house. I am both crate trained at night and potty trained. I LOVE long walks and I've been doing good with a gentle leader, but I still have some room for improvement on my walks. My foster mom has been working with me and I'm improving daily. I am a little reserved with introductions to strangers, so it might take a little bit before I feel comfortable to come up to you. Please go slow and take your time when coming up to me. Once I get to know you, I become a loving girl who wants to play with my toys, roll around being silly and chase lizards, but I also love to curl up on the couch or be right at your feet, just as long as I'm close by. I am a sweet and playful boy who can be a bit reactive when it comes to treats and food, but I promise to be a good boy with some training. I can be a bit nippy and mouthy when I play so I would likely do best in a home without very young children. Please be cautious with me when opening doors as I am an escape artist. I don't seem to know basic commands yet, but I am a very intelligent dog who is eager to learn with the right owner. Since I was found as a stray, I have limited exposure to other dogs, so it's unknown how I would do in a home with another pooch. I was rescued from Animal Services and I'm grateful to be given a chance to find my forever home. I was timid and fearful when I first arrived at Animal Services, but after being vaccinated I was friendly with their volunteers, easy to walk on leash, not interested in toys and tolerated pets.
