Meet Pixie Chick! Pixie was surrendered to Chesterfield Square Shelter by her family in the middle of a vestibular episode. As a senior without any adoption interest at a very over-crowded shelter, Pixie Chick was scheduled to be euthanized on May 31st. Happily, on May 28th, Pixie Chick instead became a Frosted Face, and her safety and well-being will never be at risk again. This sweet beauty is 14 years old and weighs 37 lbs. She has arthritis that causes stiffness, but when she gets moving, she doesn't want to stop! Pixie Chick loves being outdoors and going on our week FFF hikes, alternating between walking slowly and when she needs a rest, riding in a stroller. She is a friendly and good-natured girl who is great with kids, cats, and dogs! She is quiet, and you can scoop her up like a baby! Pixie Chick's sweet and mellow personality made her a great choice to represent FFF at a community event with volunteers and two other Frosted Faces. She was a social butterfly, wandering around the crowd, meeting people, and stopping at every outstretched hand for petting. She took a well-deserved nap in the care on the way back! Pixie Chick recently on a two-week Frosted Fling, so we could learn what she is like in a home environment. Here's what we learned: * Pixie really enjoyed walking around the backyard at her fling home. * She did well with the resident dog who was similiar in size. * Pixie was very mellow and relaxed when there were visitors to the home. * She seemed to do better eating smaller portions at mealtime. * Pixie's tail becoming straight and elevated was a signal that she had to go potty. Pixie Chick will thrive in a home with an understanding family who supports her physical needs and appreciates how special she is. Might that be you?

Meet Donny! 12-year-old Donny was entrusted to our care after his dad passed away, and no one in the extended family could keep him. Donny is a very sweet and gentle boy, who is good with other dogs and cats. He enjoys the simple pleasures of life including a good meal, naps on a cool floor, and ear scratches. If you're looking for a loyal companion with a heart of gold, Donny is your guy! Donny went on a two-week Frosted Fling to enjoy some extra TLC while we learned what he is like in a home setting. Quick Facts About Donny: Health: He's got a few bumps and cataracts, but that doesn't stop him from being a cuddle bug! Diet: Wet food lover (Caesar brand, please!) Living Situation: Loves being indoors, but enjoys his potty breaks every 6 hours Personality: Friendly with people and kids Gets along with cats Loves dog friends, he is in our biggest play group at FFF! Meals: Enjoys his food in a separate room, and he's not a food fighter! Potty Time: Mostly accident-free, just needs regular breaks Exercise: Loves his walks around the neighborhood and naps on cool floors Social Skills: A true gentleman with other animals and humans alike. He's even a protector of frail dogs! Special Notes: Donny has a bit of a startle reflex and might nip if woken up suddenly. He's just looking for a peaceful home where he can relax and feel safe. Why Adopt Donny? Donny is a mellow, loving senior dog who just wants to nap in the sun and enjoy life's simple pleasures. He's ready to share his golden years with a new family! Donny went on a second Frosted Fling and earned rave reviews from his Fling Mom: "Donny is a great dog. Easy to be with, not demanding, no separation issues. He is house-trained, too. Donny is easy peazy! Donny is definitely not a needy dog, and he LOVES his walks! He is a great sleeper, yet knows when I change rooms because he just appears. When I come back home after being out, he is right there at the door. He is very excited to see me, which warms my heart!" A volunteer recently took Donny on a special afternoon outing, so he could enjoy individual attention and a little time away from FFF. Afterwards, she shared: "My husband and I took Donny out yesterday for an outing. We started out at a restaurant, Marinade, where he was very popular! I was a little apprehensive about children petting him, and generally receiving so much attention, but he seemed to absolutely love the attention from such a kind and beautiful family at the restaurant. He just flopped over to receive belly rubs. One of the waitresses then asked us to meet him because, apparently, people kept on opening the back door to get a glimpse of him. Who can blame them? That teddy bear face is quite irresistible! Donny then got a pup cup, which gave him an adorable little mustache, while we drove to Dos Picos Park. He was such a joy to walk around. He'd go on energetic walking spurts before flopping down on the grass for much deserved breaks and belly rubs. I knew to expect a slightly aloof yet sweet and gentle dog, who seems to develop quite a bond with his humans. And somehow, Donny still surpassed those expectations. I was so overjoyed to see him handle so much attention so well, and my heart kind of broke when we had to bring him back, and he flopped down for some last belly rubs." Donny currently lives in a Foster home. MooShoo is one STUNNING boy! Sadly his start was rough.  Part of a seizure from a hoarding home during a tragic fire, when he and dozens others were left behind tethered, in kennels or locked in bird cages.  Despite his start he made it out of the shelter to what he thought would be his hero for life. Shortly after his adoption, he spooked and got out.  Sadly, his new owner sought help to get him caught only after pressure from the community that kept seeing him.  NO JOKE...... After weeks on the run she blocked the trappers number when she called to say he's safe and can go home.  No response to the shelter calls and again his life took a turn, this time for the better.  Volunteers took their time to establish trust, teach confidence and realistic expectations.  He started to thrive.  He loves walks, attention, food and adult people. Due to past trauma, he doesn't do well with people near his rear end, would prefer to not live with kids (due to their unexpected nature) and doesn't do well with other dogs. He loves his people in his inner circle deeply and will do anything to keep them happy.  He will dance to greet you.  He is quiet and undemanding.  He hangs contentedly in his crate between outings.  He transitions well to strangers and enjoys whomever takes him on outings or pack walks.  He just wants to be loved and safe.  It's time for his next step and LAST landing.  Is it your home?  He is waiting for you. ##1716040##

Scarlet, like most of our dogs started running scared from everyone.  She had been seen repeatedly returning to a dog park as if she had been dumped there.  Multiple attempts by people and animal control to catch her had failed with several resulting with her on the nearby freeway before we got the call to help catch her.  She had already been "out" for days and although had a pattern was being chased so covering ground, making trapping hard.  We went with our gut and set at the park where she always seemed to return.  It did the trick and she was safe.  Sadly, as expected no one came forward to claim or pick her up.  She was scared, guarded and true to her primary breed (chow) not the best communicator.  We took things slow, gave her space and time.  She softened up and began to glow.  The big suprise came when she showed us she knows sit, down, shake and even roll over.  What happened and where were her people?    In their absence all we could do was build on what she already knew and start to expand her circle to include strangers and the scary world.  It has taken time but she now approaches people for food, welcomes affection from stangers and her eagerness to interact and please those she knows is irresistable.  She is extremely food motivated, wicked smart and eager to please.  She is balanced with dogs big or small.  Her house training is a work in progrees but getting better.  She is still relatively new to us but her progress has been amazing,  She is starting to show off her playful and silly side.  If you think you don't have the time or ability for a lifetime commitment but enjoy a dog she could really grow best while in foster.  If you enjoy the journey of watching a dog grow and slowly evolve this girl is the one for you. Because of my Flight Risk I cannot be left unattended in a yard, crate training is a must when you are gone, tight grip on the leash is a must on adventures and my new family must be aware of open doors and windows.  NO offleash activities in unfenced areas for life.
