Story
Choo choo! All aboard! Meet Mowgli, an adorable puppy looking for a forever home! Because of our successes, and desire to help animals in struggling communities, HSHV has started a transportation program dubbed “The Love Train”. The Love Train brings animals from shelters out-of-state and other communities in Michigan. HSHV’s Love Train is part of our ongoing collaborative effort to reduce needless suffering of homeless animals wherever they may be.

**Video of him can be seen on our Facebook page here and here.** Mark seems to have the best of both breeds. intelligence and loyalty. Mark is great to walk and very eager to please his handler. He seems to know basic commands too! Online Dog Adoption Forms: : https://wacshelter.com/adopt-a-dog/ Website for general questions: www.wacshelter.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/wacshelter/ Email: wacvolunteers@gmail.com ** Be sure to check out our FACEBOOK page for day to day updates on our cats and dogs. Canine adoption fee includes: Spay/neuter Age appropriate vaccinations Deworming Flea prevention (if required) Heartworm screening/monthly prevention ** Volunteer dog walkers work with our dogs 7 days a week. What your adoption fee also includes is housetraining, leash walking and a good understanding of the kind of home each dog would thrive in. ADOPTION FEE: $ 150 "People who say money can't buy you happiness, have never paid an adoption fee...." IS THIS DOG SAFE WITH CATS? There is almost always an acclimation period when a new pet joins the household. We are happy to suggest a few ways to ease the transition. If one of our dogs is reported to have lived with cats previously, that will be indicated in the dog's description! IS THIS DOG GOOD WITH OTHER DOGS? No dog loves every other dog, just as humans do not like every other human they meet. A proper introduction (meet and greet) would be required as part of our application process. IS THIS DOG GOOD WITH CHILDREN? The better question is how the children have been taught to handle animals. A dog will respond negatively if he/she is not being handled properly. We can offer suggestions on how to teach children to interact with dogs and pay attention to body language. Young children should never be left unsupervised with new dogs. WHY IS THIS DOG IN THE SHELTER? The top reasons dogs are given up are: Moving without considering the needs of the pets Death of the owner with no plan in place for the pets Previous owner did not provide appropriate training Owner did not consider the lifespan of a dog Owner did not consider the cost of providing for a dog

Story
Sage is a bold and intelligent mixed breed dog, with a heart of gold. She is affectionate and attentive, but also silly and independent. Sage had puppies with us, and one of the puppies had a DNA test done. We therefore know that she is a makeup of very many breeds, predominantly Pitbull and Chow. Sage is super duper clean, and very food motivated. She will fly through the air for as little as a kibble. Sage is a lot of fun to train, she follows a lure great, and knows commands like 'jump' 'down' and 'crawl'. Sage is dog selective, but leash reactive. She should be the only dog in her household. Sage is not getting any applications because she is ugly. She is a soft, snuggly dog who will make you laugh every day. She has humble expectations of what a great life is! Story
Jasper spent life living outdoors, and now he’s discovering just how great the inside world can be He’s absolutely loving having four-legged buddies to hang out with Jasper enjoys the company of humans too and is happy to be nearby, soaking in the love at his own pace. Snuggles aren’t quite his thing yet unless you happen to have four legs and a wagging tail. We do not have a facility for you to visit. You are welcome to email ccrcdogs@ccrcdogs.com with specific questions, but please complete the online application, which can be found at www.ccrcdogs.com, to secure your position in line for one of our dogs. You can also find a description of our process on that same page. Puppies will not be available to be seen until their 10-day quarantine has passed. Our adoption fees are listed on our website and cover the cost of the spay/neuter, age-appropriate shots and tests, medications to bring the dog to full health, and a free visit with one of our approved vets after adoption. Most dogs at CCRC are obtained from animal control centers so there is often very little known about their history or current habits. You can always expect to do some training, regardless of whether you adopt a dog or a puppy, including crate training, house training, and basic manners. CCRC has a variety of materials and resources to assist you with this, and we have trainers who will offer free phone/email support. January 8, 2026, 1:43 pm
