Story
Meet Ludo! Some dogs have stories… and then there’s Ludo, the dog who almost became an airport celebrity. This handsome 4-year-old Chow Chow mix made quite the first impression after flying all the way from Hawaii. Upon landing, Ludo decided he wasn’t quite ready to end his adventure—he somehow broke out of his travel crate, surprised airport staff by leaping out of the cargo hold, and took off running across the airport ramp! Thankfully, his great escape ended safely, and he was quickly reunited with the people waiting for him. These days, his adventures are much more low-key, and he’s ready to trade excitement for a loving forever home.At about 60 pounds, Ludo is a big teddy bear with the heart of a lion. He’s an easygoing, well-mannered boy who walks beautifully on leash and already knows “sit,” “come,” and “paw.” We also believe he’s house-trained, making him an easy addition to the right family.Ludo enjoys the company of other dogs on walks, but when it’s playtime, he’d much rather spend it with his favorite humans. He’s not a fan of rowdy puppies bouncing all over him—he’s a dignified gentleman who appreciates calm canine companions that respect his personal space. If you’re looking for a loyal, handsome companion with a one-of-a-kind story and an even bigger heart, Ludo is ready to write the next chapter of his life—with you. After all, he’s had enough excitement for one lifetime. Now he’s just looking for a soft bed, loving family, and a place to finally call home.If you are interested in meeting Ludo, the shelter is open Monday through Saturday 11am – 6pm, Sunday 11am-4pm. If you’d like to schedule an appointment, check out the pets’ profile on our website at newberganimals.com to fill out an application and email to frontdesk@newberganimals.com.Due to COVID-19, we are currently only open by appointment. Please follow the instructions on each pet profile.

Story
Bella is a 6 year old Chow Chow / German Shepard mix. She was originally purchased from a private breeder. She is very adventurous, has been around lots of kids, and loves her daily walks and being outside.Unfortunately, the owners of Bella are unable to keep her for much longer due to them having to move to a home located in a neighborhood where her breed is not allowed. This was out of their hands due to the urgency of needing a new home and other hardships. They are looking for a loving home to take in Bella and give here the care and attention she deserves. She has gotten a pair of shots done very recently. She also has an uncontrollable itch near her hind stomach area that has caused her to bald in that area, which the owners took her to a vet for and received steroids that she is currently taking to hopefully help with that. All that aside, she has been treated with love, and her owners hope there is a home for her out there that can give her the same love, and more.

Story
Ciao is love-bug, extremely sweet, beautiful, and a character. He loves to be next to his people or nearby, but he is not needy. He leans in and snuggles. His thick, gorgeous, rough but soft coat makes him a pleasure to pet. He has plenty of energy but is not a "spaz." He has nice energy. When I adopted him, the shelter told me he was 3. Seems about 5. He is selective with other dogs and/or needs proper introduction; despite being stuck in a crowded kennel for 71 days and no time in the yard, he had only good notes re people and his kennel mates. He's great inside dog. I adopted him minutes before euthanasia with his mother Bella. He appears to like other dogs' company, especially females and dogs his size. His first time at a dog park, shortly after adoption, he got scared when "the regulars" surrounded him and he bit another big dog. A few days later he bit a little dog on a leash when quickly approached. He has done great with calm teens and dogs. Caution recommended with children.

Story
*hair blowing in the wind (even though she's indoors)* *unexplained sparkles in the air* *faint heavenly music* Yes, she is me. Chloe. Now that you are blinded by my beauty, let me explain why I am the absolute best girl on the inside too and so deserving of your (and everyone's) undivided adoration. I'm loyal, smart as a whip, and FUN, just to name a few. Unfortunately, I didn't come from the most glamorous beginnings. I was an outdoor doggy with not much interaction from birth and my family also left me behind when they moved. Thus, I wasn't really brought up interacting with you humans or being touched/handled. I've had my quirks while adjusting to being a family dog and will definitely need someone patient and understanding with me. (If you get too touchy right away, I don't like that and will try to protect myself.) However, if you are slow and gain my trust I will HANG on your every move. I have adjusted very quickly in the past with proper introductions to people. Even still, I would probably do best in a home without young children. I'm a lady after all and need time to sniff you out before you get grabby. I am an active girl and love to feel the wind in my hair outdoors too. I run with the speed of light and have a prey drive to sniff out bugs, lizards and more. I also love to play tug of war and fetch with my foster mommy inside. I bounce, bounce, bounce all the time! I am great on leash so walks and hikes would be great for me. Getting my energy out will help me focus on training too. I am very smart and learn quickly, but tend to lose interest if I'm still chock full of go, go, go!! With all of this perfection, all of your pet needs should be fulfilled, right? RIGHT? I hope so because I would do great as an only pet in the home. I have been able to co-exist with dogs at the rescue but I am a bit of a diva in my foster home. I have a domineering personality sometimes and will even mark like a male when I come across another dog's scent in my house. How dare they??? Existing? HERE? (She is otherwise house trained.) Considering that you and I know each other a little better now, you may pet me. Yes, I am very soft, I know. Please keep in mind that I am a Chow/shepherd mix and have hair that will require brushing, maybe even the occasional spa treatment, Swedish massage, 24k gold facials...yeahhhhhhhhhh.... Sorry! I forgot you were here. In all seriousness, once I trust you, I will allow you to brush me out without much fuss. It doesn't need to be daily but I am a rough and tumble kinda gal and can use help keeping my locks flowing and free. I also shed so if I seem to be losing my girlish figure, it's probably just extra hair that needs to be brushed off. I hope you have a strong vacuum. ;) I could go on for days about myself, but I'll stop here. Don't wanna overwhelm you. If you think you are up for the challenge of a total spitfire like me, please feel free to send in an application and foster mommy can tell you more about all of the grandeur that is...CHLOE. Local adoption fee is $300 (in TX)

Story
Midnight, a common name for a common black dog....but what about me?? AM I COMMON??? NOPE! I am the lion of dog breeds :) Nothing normal or common about me! Not my beautiful mane OR my beautiful chow chow personality! So I was found in a park, abandoned with my "friends" after my owner died :( LUCKILY i found a rescue who not only LOVES the breed, but also has helped me get healthy (think heartworms and bad skin) but also will find me exactly the right family! (HOPEFULLY in a colder climate!!) I am not a puppy and since I am a single dog home I really would do best without young children or unpredictable adults :) I am a magnificent breed but we are a little picky about our friends and need someone who KNOWS and LOVES my breed.. I am ready for you if you are ready for me.... put in the adoption application!! Local adoption fee is $300 (in TX) OUt of state adoption fee is $550 (includes transport to your area)
