Story
**Hi… I’m Lionel 🐾🦁** I know my name sounds a little bold… like I should be roaring or leading the pack. But truthfully, I’m more of a quiet, thoughtful guy who’s still figuring things out. I’m a shy young dog who likes to take my time getting comfortable. I might hang back at first, just watching and making sure everything feels safe. But once I trust you, I start to show my softer side — the one that enjoys gentle attention, staying close, and being part of a calm, steady routine. I’ve got a “little lion” heart — not loud or fierce, just loyal, sensitive, and looking for someone to feel safe with. With patience, kindness, and a little encouragement, I’ll keep growing more confident and let my personality shine. At this time, Lionel is unsure of other dogs. He may be able to coexist with a calm, well-balanced canine companion whose role is to provide quiet guidance rather than engage in play. Introductions should be slow and intentional. I’m looking for a home that understands that sometimes the quiet ones just need a little extra time… and are often the most rewarding. 🐾 **If you’re interested in adopting me, please apply online to be considered:** 👉 [https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/AHTN/Dog] 🏡 **Open Hours:** Tuesday – Saturday | 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM Come meet me…💛

Story
We got Oakley from young Williams animal shelter 4-5 years ago! He is 3 years old now and he is a very calm dog. He will play with you but will also just hang around with you! He’s great with kids, cats, and other dogs. We’re only needing to rehome him due to an animal allergy that my youngest daughter has.

Story
Harper is HES's current longest canine resident. She's been in HES care for a year and a half, with very little serious adoption interest 😔 This sweet senior girl is a 9-year-old Chow Chow/Red Heeler mix, and is described by her foster mom as a snuggly, affectionate, and active dog that forms deep bonds with the people she trusts. Harper is very shy when she meets new people. In the few adoption appointments she's had, she hid behind her foster mom the whole time, and the folks were not interested in owning a timid dog. But give Harper a few days to decompress, and she becomes a totally different girl! Harper's favorite things include stuffed toys, exploring the outdoors, and being near her favorite people. She's very food motivated, housetrained, and loves to go on walks and hikes. Though she's a senior, she doesn't act like one! She would LOVE an active family to take her on adventures and include her in their daily lives. Harper deserves so much more than a life without a forever family, especially as she enters her golden years. She would do best in a home with teenage children and older, and she's ok around other dogs, but would also be content as the only dog in the household. She's not been around cats, to our knowledge. If you think you could give Harper the home she's been searching for these past 18 months, we encourage you to apply for adoption on our website, and we'll contact you to set up a time to meet Harper and her foster at HES!

Story
*hair blowing in the wind (even though she's indoors)* *unexplained sparkles in the air* *faint heavenly music* Yes, she is me. Chloe. Now that you are blinded by my beauty, let me explain why I am the absolute best girl on the inside too and so deserving of your (and everyone's) undivided adoration. I'm loyal, smart as a whip, and FUN, just to name a few. Unfortunately, I didn't come from the most glamorous beginnings. I was an outdoor doggy with not much interaction from birth and my family also left me behind when they moved. Thus, I wasn't really brought up interacting with you humans or being touched/handled. I've had my quirks while adjusting to being a family dog and will definitely need someone patient and understanding with me. (If you get too touchy right away, I don't like that and will try to protect myself.) However, if you are slow and gain my trust I will HANG on your every move. I have adjusted very quickly in the past with proper introductions to people. Even still, I would probably do best in a home without young children. I'm a lady after all and need time to sniff you out before you get grabby. I am an active girl and love to feel the wind in my hair outdoors too. I run with the speed of light and have a prey drive to sniff out bugs, lizards and more. I also love to play tug of war and fetch with my foster mommy inside. I bounce, bounce, bounce all the time! I am great on leash so walks and hikes would be great for me. Getting my energy out will help me focus on training too. I am very smart and learn quickly, but tend to lose interest if I'm still chock full of go, go, go!! With all of this perfection, all of your pet needs should be fulfilled, right? RIGHT? I hope so because I would do great as an only pet in the home. I have been able to co-exist with dogs at the rescue but I am a bit of a diva in my foster home. I have a domineering personality sometimes and will even mark like a male when I come across another dog's scent in my house. How dare they??? Existing? HERE? (She is otherwise house trained.) Considering that you and I know each other a little better now, you may pet me. Yes, I am very soft, I know. Please keep in mind that I am a Chow/shepherd mix and have hair that will require brushing, maybe even the occasional spa treatment, Swedish massage, 24k gold facials...yeahhhhhhhhhh.... Sorry! I forgot you were here. In all seriousness, once I trust you, I will allow you to brush me out without much fuss. It doesn't need to be daily but I am a rough and tumble kinda gal and can use help keeping my locks flowing and free. I also shed so if I seem to be losing my girlish figure, it's probably just extra hair that needs to be brushed off. I hope you have a strong vacuum. ;) I could go on for days about myself, but I'll stop here. Don't wanna overwhelm you. If you think you are up for the challenge of a total spitfire like me, please feel free to send in an application and foster mommy can tell you more about all of the grandeur that is...CHLOE. Story
Kristoff is being fostered in Ocala FL. Kristoff is a very unique dog and such a juxtaposition! He hates car rides, but loves walks. He is the happiest, sweetest, tail-wagging floof, but is a tough as nails street dog at his core. He is a happy go lucky, friendly guy on one hand, but if he gets contained, he is absolutely frantic to break free. He loves to be with the other dogs, but will be reactive and quickly defensive if startled. His face is greying, but his energy and enthusiasm are still puppy-like with no signs of slowing down (except for some occasional signs of doggy dementia.) He does not tolerate his front paws being touched, but does allow the vet tech to trim his nails, though reluctantly. Surprisingly, he really enjoys being brushed, but no noisy trimmers which makes grooming tricky. Kris’s health is good and he is doing well on that front. He has lost a significant amount of weight and leveled off now, so he is much healthier. He thrives on routine and verbal cues, which he learns easily with repetition. Kristoff is full of contradictions and challenges which will require a special experienced adopter, a lot of patience, work and communication. Although he loves to be with a pack, it is probably easier to acclimate him in a home without any other pets, but older children are ok. Kris would prefer a home with his human home much of the time. BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.
