Story
Fern, 2.5 years old (DOB 12/8/2023), neutered male, Poodle mix, 20 pounds. He is located in a foster home in HOUSTON, TEXAS and able to transport once an adopter is approved.
Fern came to us as an owner surrender. He was purchased as a puppy for an elderly woman. She started to have some mobility issues and she was worried she may trip over him. She reached out for help and that's how we came into the picture. Fern has been a very loved boy and we appreciate his owner doing what was best for both of them.
Fern is the definition of a loyal little companion. His favorite place in the world is wherever his person happens to be, whether that's curled up beside you on the couch, riding along in the car, or following you from room to room. If you're looking for a dog who will shower you with affection and make you feel loved every single day, Fern may be your perfect match.
Fern has a playful side and loves a good game of fetch, especially when stuffies are involved. He enjoys playing with other dogs and is always curious about what's going on around him. During playtime he'll happily chase his canine friends, bounce around with excitement, and wag his tail nonstop. After 15-20 minutes of fun, though, he's ready to settle down and transform into a professional couch potato.
While Fern enjoys the company of other dogs, he doesn't need a canine companion to be happy. What he really wants is a human to call his own. He's affectionate, cuddly, and would gladly spend his evenings curled up in a recliner or snuggled into his special spot on the bed.
Fern has excellent leash manners and enjoys several short walks throughout the day. He does well in an apartment setting and isn't an overly demanding exercise partner. A low- to moderately-active home that can provide routine, companionship, and plenty of love would suit him perfectly.
When meeting new people, Fern can be a little shy at first, but once he has a chance to warm up, his sweet personality shines through. He's already proven to be a great little socializer, even handling outings to dog-friendly restaurants with ease.
He does settle when he's crated. We have no history with cats. He has met kids out walking, but does not live in a home with children.
Like many dogs, Fern is still working on a few things. He thrives on structure and consistency and is continuing to improve his house-training skills. He can also be vocal when left alone and may experience some separation or storm anxiety. With patience, reassurance, and a predictable routine, he continues to make great progress.
Fern's ideal home is one where he can be the center of attention and receive the love he craves. He would make an excellent companion for a single person, couple, or someone looking for a devoted best friend. His biggest wish in life is simple: to be loved, spoiled a little, and included in his person's daily life.
If you're looking for a sweet, affectionate dog who will greet you with happy bounces, make you laugh when he slides across the tile floor, and fill your days with companionship, Fern is ready to steal your heart.
Please note our process starts with an application. If we think you might be a good fit, we will reach out to coordinate a phone interview. This is followed by a video call with the foster home. Virtual home visit, personal and vet reference checks are required to complete the process. Transport is included in our adoption donation.
