Story
Meet your new best friend, Effie! Effie is an incredibly sweet girl and the definition of a “wiggle butt.” At 27 pounds with a stocky build, she is an adorable little short stack. She is believed to be around 12 years old, but as a stray, her exact history is unknown. Effie arrived to rescue with an infected eye that needed urgent surgery and ear infections that needed treatment. She has adjusted well to having only one eye but does seem to be a little hard of hearing. Despite the challenges she has faced, Effie is a very happy girl. She loves to chase her ball around the yard and carry around her squeaky toys. She lights up around people and is good with other dogs, cats, and kids. She will sit patiently and tippy-tap her front paws for pets — she never jumps up. She also never barks, which makes her little snorts and snores even cuter. Effie can be a bit skittish and does startle easily, so she will be most comfortable in a home that is relatively quiet and calm. She is ready to make you fall in love! Unfortunately this sweet girl came to us with multiple mammary tumors. While our initial plan was to spay her and remove those masses once she was healed from having her eye removed as that was the first pressing surgery needed, they have grown and one opened up and ruptured. Since they have spread further than what they were when we initially pulled her, for her own quality of life we are not going to be putting her through a surgery that invasive. Especially knowing that the cancer will return even once removed. Whether that is in months or years, we have no way of knowing how long she has but she lives life to the fullest now! We are looking for a special hospice home that understands their time will be limited and will make the best of that time. Her adoption fee has been discounted to $100.
