Story
Mocha is a stunning black and tan hound mix puppy with a bright mind and an even brighter personality. This girl loves being with people and thrives on human connection: whether that’s learning new things, cuddling close, or simply hanging out by your side. She’s very intelligent and already knows sit, down, and come (especially when treats are involved!). Like most puppies, Mocha is food-motivated, which actually makes her a great candidate for continued training and learning new skills. Mocha prefers to enjoy her toys on her own, so she does best when given toys in her crate or during solo time. With clear boundaries and structure, she does wonderfully. She is already potty trained and sleeps in the bed with her foster, where she happily settles in for the night. Her foster family absolutely adores her and can’t stop raving about how amazing she is, and they’re not exaggerating. Add in her super soft fur, and you’ve got a puppy who’s just as wonderful to cuddle as she is to keep training! To meet one of our adoptable pets or to start the adoption process, please access the adoption application on our website, www.crossroadsanimalrescue.org or download and email it to crossroadsanimalrescuesc@gmail.com. We will then approve you (sending in the application does not obligate you to adopt) and we can set up a time for you to meet one or more of our pets. You can then pay the adoption fee and officially adopt after meeting your new family member. Alternatively, you can do the adoption over the phone before meeting your new pet. The benefit to this is that we will hold the pet for you. However, the adoption fee is non-refundable if you changed your mind after adopting over the phone. Most of our pets are obtained from animal control and therefore we are not certain of their breed or breed mix. We list breed mixes that they most resemble or that their former owners said they were. However, we don't make any guarantees about breed - it is a best guess! Our adoption fees include the spay/neuter surgery, deworming, vet exam, and up to date vaccines. It also includes microchipping as well as heartworm testing or feline leukemia testing. We are happy to adopt out-of-state (and even out of the country!) but transportation for the adopted pet is the responsibility of the new pet owner. If you cannot adopt a pet at this time but would like to support our rescue, please click on the "Sponsor a Pet" button. Your donation will help feed the dogs, cats, small animals, and horses at CARE. Please email at crossroadsanimalrescuesc@gmail.com or call us at (864)972-9906 for more information. This phone number will reach Crossroads Animal Hospital, which is the home of CARE. During business hours, a receptionist will be able to speak with you regarding our adoptable pets. After business hours, the only way to contact CARE is via email. Our puppies and kittens are also eligible for 10% off the rest of the vaccines in their puppy/kitten vaccination series at Crossroads Animal Hospital. Most adult pets are spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Puppies and kittens may have the surgery before adoption or we may have new owners return later for the surgery. Story
Meet Buddy (the handsome coonhound) Buddy is a gorgeous coonhound mix. He is stunning and just as sweet as they come. Buddy has been living in a foster home and was recently surrendered when space opened at our shelter. Hes been in foster for a good while and his time in a loving home has really given him an advantage. We expect hell transition easily into a new forever home. Buddy is housetrained! He has great manners. Buddy is five years old. He is 64 lbs. of lean and huggable muscle. He has a beautiful white coat with a gorgeous ticking pattern. His handsome face has two brown patches on each side surrounding his warm brown eyes and highlighting his smile. Buddy is a happy dog and his personality reflects his easy-going manner. He loves to play and go on walks. He has a lot of energy and will need a fenced in yard. Buddy loves other dogs and is great with kids. Hes fun, yet gentle and friendly. Hed probably love having another active dog in the home to pal around with. He can be a strong leash walker because he is so interested in everything. But if hes exercised and with time, his leash walking will get easier. Buddy loves sniffing on his walks, its probably his most favorite thing to do. Buddy has a strong prey drive and he will chase cats and backyard critters. No cats in the home for this pup. Buddy does great in a car and loves to be a ridealong dog. Hed be great on the trails, walking in the neighborhood or simply hanging with you in the yard or on the couch. If looking for a wonderful companion to go through life with, Buddy is exceptional. His foster mom was wonderful to him and her love and care shows in Buddys demeanor. If interested in welcoming Buddy to your family and making his dreams come true, please submit an application online at: www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org. Please use the downloadable application found on our homepage. Please email our shelter (smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net) to make sure we received your application. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out-of-state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship, nor do we transport them to their new homes. Adoption policies and application procedures are detailed at the shelter website: http://charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org/ under tab All Adoptable Animals.

Story
Roscoe is a very striking, handsome, dapper hound. He loves to play with his brother, sister and foster siblings. He tries to be as brave as possible but always approaches new situations with a lot of caution. Roscoe loves exploring the outdoors. He is a sweet, often goofy, athletic hound. His markings are very distinctive including bright "pumpkins seeds" above his sparkling eyes and absolutely adorable freckles. Roscoe is good with other dogs of all ages & sizes and has been introduced to cats but at a distance. He loves puppies! Kid testing has been very limited due to the pandemic.  Roscoe was born to a stray Mom in a dilapidated abandoned shack.  Completely feral and terrified of humans the Mom could and would not be caught. It was a freezing cold rainy January day when we first saw her litter of 14 huddled together in the corner of the abandoned house with no windows or doors. Too young to take, all we could do was leave food for the Mom each day hoping she would not leave or move her puppies. But she did move them numerous times. Sadly we continued to find dead puppies until one day they all disappeared. At age 4.5 months we were notified that 5 puppies were eating at the abandoned house. We recognized them by their markings and age. These pups were also feral by this time. But we could not leave them to live their lives as strays in a rural county with no animal control or shelter. Were they would likely be shot, poisoned or trapped to be used as bait dog's.  Three of Roscoe's siblings have been adopted and are absolutely wonderful pets. Roscoe and his brother Deputy are still being fostered.  Roscoe will require a very patient adopter or foster  home that is experienced with fearful dogs. His foster home currently has a lot of dogs, including a medical foster. They are managing so many personalities and dynamics they cannot give him the one on one attention he desperately needs. He absolutely requires a fenced yard. Perhaps with another dog that loves to be outside. A family that will give him time and space to adjust. Dirt Road Doggie’s Rescue will provide everything he needs and our full support as he transitions to new surroundings. He will be challenging. But like his siblings, once the barrier is lifted you will have an amazing, special boy to love. Roscoe has a precious tender heart and sweet, gentle soul. He is very special.  Roscoe is up to date on vaccines, neutered, microchipped and heartworm negative. Crate trained, a bit stubborn on a leash but we are working on that.  He is lovingly fostered in Rutledge GA. https://awo.petstablished.com/pets/public/816346 ##816346##
