Story
Chase is a very loving, smart, energetic big boy that needs some training. He loves to jump and will jump on anything, including countertops. While his previous owner said he loves hunting and tracking deer, he has not been trained on how to behave in the house. (His foster said he is smart and quickly learning not to jump up on furniture) He is learning that outside is where he goes to the bathroom, and he knows that his kennel is a good place for a break. Chase needs someone, preferably with coonhound experience, who can help him become his best self.

Doogie is a 3 - 4 yr old male Coonhound. He has a high energy level, so he would benefit from an active family with a fenced yard and plenty of space for daily exercise and play. He is loose and wiggly when greeting, and comes when called for snuggles and kisses. Doogie does moderately pull on a leash, but with basic obedience training, he should be walking like a champ in no time! He is food motivated, but does not yet know any commands. He mixes well with other dogs in a kennel and is indifferent towards cats in the shelter environment. Dogs are generally tested with dogs of their own size; and dog meets with the resident dogs are always encouraged. Our cat test should be used as a general-purpose screening only to rule out overt aggression; we always recommend caution when introducing dogs to cats in the home. Recommendation on suitability of placement with children by their ages is based on behavioral observations including energy level and response to body handling. We never recommend leaving young children unsupervised with dogs, and we cannot guarantee the behavior of dogs with children, other pets, or cats. Behavior evaluations should be considered as a snapshot of the behavior of the dog at this point in time; JHS believes all dog families need to be prepared to invest time and energy into training as well as provide common sense management of their new dog. We always encourage family to do some research on the breeds or mixes of breeds prior to adoption as many can have some unique characteristics that may or may not fit into their families. Always remember that the majority of dogs at our shelter have been exposed to or may have kennel cough. Kennel cough is contagious to other dogs, please talk to your vet if you have any questions about kennel cough prior to adoption. Please ask your adoption counselor at time of adoption if you have any unanswered questions regarding illnesses and treatments of the pet that you are adopting. Mable is an 8 - 10 yr old female Coonhound. She has a medium energy level, so she should fit well into most homes provided she receives a moderate amount of daily exercise and play. She is loose and wiggly when greeting, and likes to sit by her person for cuddles. She also loves to hop up into your lap for hugs and kisses. Mable does pull on a leash, but with basic obedience training, she should be walking like a champ in no time! She is food motivated and knows the command sit.
