Story
Mickey is a 4 year old pure bred Havanese. He needs a patient, gentle home with dog savvy people. He thrives with other dogs and a fenced yard. He hasn't been tested with cats. Mickey is house trained and crate trained for sleeping at night. He's a good watch dog and barks at passersby. He loves meeting strangers. He is a sweet affectionate little guy most of the time; however he doesn't like to have his leash removed after a walk. In his foster home a slip leash is used for walks and has to be removed carefully or he will growl and bite. This behavior seems to be improving, but is still a problem. He will need professional training for this issue, and a home without children is recommended. 98% of the time Mickey is a wonderful pet. He enjoys being near his people and other dogs. Loves playing with toys and going for walks and rides and running around a fenced yard.Havanese have a coat that needs regular brushing and grooming. If you are interested in giving Mickey the kind of home he needs, please fill out an application, so a meeting can be arranged. Dogs are not placed on a first-come, first-served basis. Story
I'm Frito, a 1-year-old, male, 9-pound mostly white with some tan Havanese. My new CAWS family rescued me from a puppy mill way from the east, my journey took a couple weeks for us to finally arrive safe and sound, but now my new forever rescue group will be sure to help me find my ultimate furever family. Everything is so new to me but my foster mom and 4 legged siblings just let me decompress and were very, very, very slow to introduce me to the new ways a dog can live and be loved unconditionally. I truly like my other 4 legged siblings, big and small, male and female. After being in my foster home for a few months now I love love love playing with anyone who will play with me so I have to go to a home with another 4 legged companion. I really like to play with the 30-pound heeler sibling in my foster home, she is ever so gentle with me, I really like that. I also play with another 9-pound, 8-year-old male and 13-year-old female, just anyone who will indulge me. We all cuddle on the couch and in an open crate or on the floor with numerous beds for us to pick and choose. I conquered house training, my foster mom gets me out on a regular basis, whew, so I learned very quickly. I do like to nibble on my 2 legged people's toes and fingers so I need to have my own chew toys. Because I am only a year old I am a very busy little body, roaming here and there, darting to and fro, so much to check out. I paw at my foster mom a little when she picks me up. I am still learning this very new way of life so it will take time for me to totally feel 100 percent safe with new and quick motions not scaring me. Because I get startled I cannot go to a home with little kids, I need to be in a home with older people who will go slow with me. I learned to walk on a leash with a harness. My progressions have been so unbelievable, if I don't say so myself, I am pretty darn smart, whew. I have a little squeaky voice when I talk and get excited but it is an ever so soft little squeak. My foster mom tells me every day she likes to hear me make these little noises cuz I really do get to be a dog now. I need to go to a home with a secure fenced yard cuz I am still trying to find security. If you have the patience and time to let this little man open up and become a dog, please arrange for a meet and greet. Dogs are not placed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Story
Argh there, Matey! I'm Beenie, the fiercest 17 year old pirate dog there is! I was picked up as a stray and taken to the clink, where my people declined to pay the ransom (or even come) to get me back. County services is no place for my old bones to rest. Sometimes I get restless and forget where I am, so I don't need a lot of space to roam. You can cover a lot of distance when you walk in circles. I'm housebroken, but have accidents from time to time because my potty wandering can look like regular exploring. Nothing a dapper little diaper can't fix if you don't mind some laundry. I pay no heed to other animals around me, so if you're worried about compatibility with other shipmates; that's a question for them. The worst I'll do is wander into someone's leg or bed since it's a bit hard to see out of the one eye I have. I'm only 8 pounds and fit in a grocery tote, so I'm easy to pack around if you want a little old man to keep you company on your next adventures.Dogs are not placed on a first-come, first-served basis.
