Story
#### Please say a virtual hello to Bonnie's happy, pointy little face! Bonnie has been doing great with making friends with people at NMDR. She seems to feel safer around women than men, which is pretty common in our dogs. She's got one friend named Jessica at NMDR who she's crazy about. She barks for attention, climbs into her lap, gives lots of kisses and makes it clear that she expects belly rubs. And, of course, follows Jessica and some of her other human friends around. Jessica may be the best human friend Bonnie has ever had. We know there are more special friends like her for Bonnie out there in the big wide world. Bonnie loves to go outside to frolic in the sunshine. She walks on leash, although she's not entirely comfortable with it, especially with new people and in new situations. She loves to eat! Treats are her favorite, but she's pretty enthusiastic at mealtimes, to the point that we feed her from a slow feeder to slow her down a little. Bonnie still has some challenges and can be very anxious in new situations. Strangers can make her feel spooky. Her best human friends are adults; her family won't have any young kids. While she is working on leash walking, she still needs a secure yard with a 4' fence. It will help for her adopter to have experience with anxious/fearful dogs. And while she lives with other dogs at NMDR, she can get very possessive of her favorite humans, so she will do best as the only dog in her new family. Now that you've said your virtual hello to this sweet, silky, short-legged little girl, will you consider an in-person one? You can start the ball rolling by completing an application to adopt her at nmdr.org. She and some very lucky person are going to make history as besties. That lucky person might just be you!- - - - - -Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization. As a result, there is often an adjustment period when learning about life as a family pet. We typically do not adopt to homes with children under 6 years old; homes with older children will be considered on an individual basis. Common skills such as house training and leash walking will often take a little extra time. Patience, understanding and a gentle hand are a must. The great news is, most of these dogs do improve over time, and being a part of their rehabilitation is an extremely rewarding experience. Story
#### Lucy Loo is beautiful. She is an 8 year old Dachshund who weighs 14 pounds. She is a smart girl who loves beds and blankets, food, lick mats and snuffle mats. She benefits from food puzzles and hand feeding will most likely be helpful for her as well once she is adopted. This little beauty is scared and needs a special person or family to help her. She must have a calm and quiet environment as she becomes easily overwhelmed and overstimulated. She loves calm dogs but is more of an observer so far that a player. That does not mean she will never play, it just means as of now she doesn't. Once she is home with a more confident dog showing her the ropes, she may pick it up, but our fortune teller is on vacation so we can't make any predictions :-) Due to her fears, she is difficult to catch but our rehab team will show you what they have found to be successful and less stressful for her. While Lucy Loo can walk on a leash, it is not an enjoyable activity at this point. This is another area where her new dog sibling could be helpful. Once she feels safer in her yard, walking her on leash there in the familiar environment, might be very helpful for her. Once she feels better about walking in her yard, taking her to a less used trail or park (with fewer human noises or traffic) may help her enjoy walks more. Exercise is very important for anxious dogs but she can get mental exercise with food puzzles and snuffle mats in the meantime.Lucy Loo needs a fenced yard with a minimum of a four foot high fence and at least one similarly sized more confident dog. She needs a very quiet and predictable environment so no children. Lucy Loo is waiting for someone special who will love her and help her adjust to life in a home. If you are interested in meeting this little beauty, please apply at NMDR.com.- - - - - -Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization.
