Luna is ready to go Trick or Treating are you ready to take her. She does great with spine walking would only need a diaper on at night and take out 3-4 times during the day. This girl so deserves a forever home, please consider her. 9/13/2024: Luna is doing very, very well. She is almost finished with her physical therapy and will soon be going to her permanent foster home where she will remain until she finds her forever home. Luna is a happy little girl. She will always “wobble walk” (check out her video) but she is doing very, very well. BIO: Luna came from a breeder in North Carolina when she went down in the back. We took her immediately to our specialty vet clinic, and they determined that she was not a candidate for surgery. So, we had to put her through physical therapy to teach her to spine walk. Spinal walking (SW) occurs when a paralyzed dog with no pain sensation or feeling in their legs learns to walk and stand through reflex. Luna is doing very well and is also getting laser therapy and Acupuncture. She will never walk normally, but she has learned to walk instead of dragging her back legs. She is a very determined little lady, and she deserves a home where they appreciate her willingness to keep working to strengthen her legs. Our must-haves for precious Luna include: A fenced yard to get out and continue to strengthen her back legs, and when outside, she is FAST Someone who is home more often than not Someone with IVDD experience Another small young dog for her to hang with No apartments, high-rises, or condos Please don’t just look at her coloring and want her for that, because of her back issue, the adopter will need to have the experience of having a downed dog and know how to express a bladder. If you do not have this experience, then please do not apply. If you have the experience and would like more information before applying for her, you can email her foster mom at aadrpresident@gmail.com, and she’ll be happy to answer any questions you have. ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten. If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal. There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered. We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures. To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3. Click this link to apply: https://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/apply, it will take you to the application form. Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.

Story
Miss Mavis is as sweet as your grandma! This beautiful baked bean could fit in your bag and go to work with you! She’s the sweetest little land seal this side of the Cumberland River and is ready to make you her person! Mavis very much enjoys walks as well as rolling in the grass like a little bug. She has whale eyes at first with new people and can read a little shy, but with a day or two, opens up like a sweet rose! She is also a fan of zoomies, so if you have a yard, an obstacle course could prove very entertaining for both of you! She prefers the calm life, and that includes other dog’s energies as well. She gets a little flustered with overstimulated or intense dogs, so peaceful pals are best! She gets along with dogs perfectly and is cohabitating with a few of all sizes and ages in her foster home. If you have kitty friends at home, Mavis has proven non-confrontational with her whiskered encounters. Need to take a road trip? No problem! Mavis likes the 4 wheel life as well, and prefers to take a back seat, literally! And of course, like any good dog, she’s a lover of all things snacks. Meet Mavis today and start living your best life together tomorrow!

Story
🐾 Meet Anakin! 🐾Anakin is a sweet 5-year-old Miniature Pinscher/Chihuahua mix who is looking for a patient and loving forever home. ❤️This handsome little guy can be very nervous, especially when he is in an unfamiliar environment. Because he can be a bit of a flight risk, his new family will need to be extra careful and make sure he is kept secure while he adjusts to his new surroundings. With time, patience, and plenty of love, we think Anakin will really blossom!Anakin is up to date on his vaccines and already neutered, so he is ready to find his forever family. He does well with children, but we are currently unsure how he does with other dogs or cats. If you have other pets, we encourage a meet-and-greet to help make sure everyone is a good fit. 🐶🐱💰 Adoption Fee: $50 + taxAnakin may be nervous at first, but underneath that nervousness is a very sweet boy who just wants someone he can trust. If you have the patience and love to help him come out of his shell, Anakin could be the perfect little companion for you! 🥰🐾Dogs are $115 and puppies are $110 unless otherwise noted. All cats and kittens are $75.00 unless otherwise noted. Our system automatically updates adoptable websites every two hours. Feel free to email or call us with any questions you may have. Our contact number is 270-887-4175. The shelter is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30-4 and is closed daily for lunch from 12:30-1.
