He had belonged to the elderly parent and was allowed to run the house therefore picked up some bad habits. So, with our help he has gotten some manners but will need to go to an experienced dachshund owner. He came in over weight but we have gotten him down some but he may need to lose another pound or two. He really is a sweet happy boy. He loves to be outside and will do zoomies out in the yard in the morning. We do know that he does not like going to the vet to get his nails trimmed so a muzzle would have to be used. We also know that he doesn’t care for strangers so new people coming into the home would have to be made aware of this and not just walk in. We think a quieter home would be best for him with few visitors but getting him out for walks or taking him to PetMart would be great for him. If you are looking for a standard then here is your chance. Please help Luke find his last forever home. our must haves for Luke: a fenced in yard a quieter home can be an only dog or another small adult dog only adult children 14 yrs plus no apartments, high rises or condos ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten. If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal. There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered. We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures. To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3. Click this link to apply: https://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/apply, it will take you to the application form. Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.

Story
Meet Kiko! Kiko came to us when he was surrendered to an upstate shelter when his owner could no longer care for him. Kiko came to us terrified but has started to come out of his shell. He is very sweet once he warms up and loves to curl up in your lap. He is dog friendly with all size dogs but would do best with calmer dogs. He is a beautiful boy that with a little patience will really blossom! At this time we do not recommend a home with children under the age of 10. Kiko is about 8 years old and in the prime of his life. He is very easy going and mostly sleeps in his dog bed most of the day. He is not a big barker for his foster mom either.  His adoption fee is $350 and he is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, heartworm and flea prevention and currently being treated with Advantage multi that is covered by Libby and Mace until he tests negative. Story
Meet Tuukka – Senior Dachshund, Professional Commentator!   Tuukka is an 11–12-year-old dachshund with a long body, a big heart, and lots to say about the world around him. If you’ve ever wanted a dog who will happily share his opinions on meal times, walk schedules, and whether the mail carrier can be trusted—Tuukka is your guy.   He’s wonderfully dog, cat, and kid friendly, making him an easy fit for a busy household or a calm one. Tuukka loves being part of the family and thrives when he’s included in daily life, whether that means cozy couch time or supervising the neighborhood from the window.   While he may be a senior, Tuukka still has plenty of personality and charm packed into his little dachshund frame. His vocal nature just means he’s expressive, engaged, and always ready for a conversation (or a snack). Beneath the commentary is a sweet, affectionate companion who truly loves his people.   If you’re looking for a loyal sidekick with a sense of humor, a loving heart, and a running narration of your day, Tuukka is ready to move in and make himself at home.   Adopt Tuukka—because life is better with a dog who speaks his mind!   He is neutered, microchipped, up to date vaccines and heartworm prevention as well as had a dental cleaning with many needed extractions as of December 10th. His adoption fee is $300. Please use this link for the application to be approved for adoption: https://toolkit.rescuegroups.org/of/f?c=SGVJMGQYFebruary 11, 2026, 4:30 pm
