Story
Please contact Jeff Tarpley (JEFFnTEXARKANA@aol.com) for more information about this pet.Wishbone and Wanda are the cutest little bonded pair out there. Wishbone is a red piebald Dachshund (or mix). He is about 3 years old and he weighs 15 pounds. Wanda is a female mix breed. She is about 5 years old and she weighs 14 pounds. Both are vaccinated, spayed/neutered, tested heartworm negative and on heartworm preventive. They are ready for adoption. Wishbone and Wanda found themselves at a shelter in central Arkansas after their owner passed away. Upon coming to our rescue it was immediately apparent they are a bonded pair. Wishbone was protective of Wanda in the shelter but very loving right away with his rescue family. Wanda was scared and withdrawn at the shelter but opened up and relaxed quickly once in a home. They have been such a fun pair. Wanda had skin issues and hair loss that made her at first look like an older dog, but with some meds, Bravecto and skin sensitive food she has filled out her weight and has grown/is growing hair in all the affected places. Wanda is turning out to be a pretty little gal with an expressive face. Wishbone, healthy from the first, likes to explore and walks better on a leash (Wanda tends to pull). Wishbone and Wanda kennel together at night. They’ve never had a crate or potty accident. Wanda and Wishbone are never far apart. Both are affectionate and love to be cuddlers and couch buddies with their people. They deserve a great home and have plenty to offer in return. Adoption fee is $300. Story
Shady and Romeo are the most gorgeous bonded. Shady is a female dachshund with the prettiest color that first seems black but is really a rich brown…and the reason for her name. She is about 6-7 years old and she weighs 12 pounds. Romeo is a dark dapple Dachshund with blue in one eye. He is about 6-7 years old and he weighs 12 pounds. Both are vaccinated, spayed/neutered, tested heartworm negative and on heartworm preventive. Romeo had a back surgery years back (scar visible on his back) and has a permanent wobble in his wiggle (see video). He would benefit from ramps or easy stairs, good supervision, and crating when not being supervised, to avoid injury. This beautiful pair are ready for adoption. Romeo and Shady made their way to rescue when their dad’s health failed and he required constant care himself. They were very loved and well cared for. The two have very different personalities. Romeo is outgoing, vocal, and confident. He LOVES treats. Shady is a gentle soul who gets very nervous of new situations and takes a good deal of time and patience to warm up and relax. Both are sweet without a mean bone anywhere. They had a few potty accidents early on but we have a better idea now of a schedule that works for them. Romeo needs a couple more potty breaks each day than some dogs, so he would have an easier time with someone who is home or who can let him out about every four hours. Romeo walks on a harness. Shady will too, but she is so skittish in new situations we would not move too quickly to walks in public, and take double care to make sure she is secure and can’t slip her lead. Romeo and Shady enjoy the company of other small, older/calm dogs (no bouncy friends!). They also have experience around family children but we would prefer a home with adults. Adoption fee is $400. Story
Butters is a male tan Dachshund. He is 2 years old and he weighs 18 pounds. Butters is neutered and vaccinated including rabies. Butters is heartworm negative and on monthly heartworm preventive. Butters is ready for adoption. Butters came to us through Caddo Parish shelter. He was fearful and reactive at the shelter but we felt he might be ok in a less stressful environment. It took a couple of weeks for Butters to “pop” as we call it, but since then he has been a load of fun. Butters is dog friendly and playful (not cat friendly). We prefer an adult only home for him. Butters is super smart and confident and could possibly be trained to do a job. Butters is affectionate and asks for attention. He has done fine with pottying outside, does well in a kennel and walks fine on a leash. Adoption fee is $250. She will be adopted with a spay contract requiring the adopter to spay her at 6 months old and complete her vaccines at appropriate intervals. Locket is ready for adoption. Locket and her three siblings were surrendered after they survived a house fire. Locket’s brothers have some significant scarring on their backs, with sister having a smaller spot. Locket only has a scar on her left ear. Locket has a reserved, shy nature. She joins in play with her siblings but if it gets too wild she will sit back and watch. Locket is not quick to go up to new people, but she is very sweet with everyone she knows. Locket is happy to be held and carried but she didn’t like her first leash experience. Locket has a slight underbite that gives her face its adorable appearance. Adoption fee is $350. Story
Little Guy is a male black with tan Chihuahua or mix. He is guessed as 2-3 years old (at most) and he weighs 7.6 pounds. Little Guy is neutered and vaccinated including rabies. Little Guy is heartworm positive and undergoing slow kill treatment which the adopter will continue. Little Guy is ready for adoption. Little Guy is a friendly cutie pie. He tries to get other dogs to play with him within minutes of meeting. Little Guy can be cuddled easily, both because he is the perfect little size and because he likes cuddles. He needs a chance to learn the leash, but he has learned to kennel and does pretty well with potty habits. Little Guy isn’t anxious even though he is a little cautious if certain things. We think he would be fine with children. He’s also fine with cats. Little Guy is too sweet to be long in rescue. Adoption fee is $250. Must apply: Application for adoption is located at http://fs19.formsite.com/JeffTarpleyRescue/application/index.html We will be happy to explain slow kill heartworm treatment to any approved applicants and give them time to talk their decision over with their veterinarian before they commit to meeting Little Guy.
