Story
Meet Lucy, a sweet and gentle soul who is ready to find her forever home! This adorable girl weighs 30lbs and is dog friendly, making her a great companion for furry friends. Though she will be a bit timid at first, with a little patience and time, Lucy will open up and show her loving side. Since arriving at her foster home, she has made remarkable progress- aside from the initial adjustment period, she has not had any accidents and is learning the ropes of her new environment. Lucy does show signs of being a bit anxious when left alone, but it seems manageable with the support of a loving family or another canine companion by her side. She thrives on having company, dog or person, and is quickly adjusting after her time as a stray. If you're looking for a sweet and loyal friend who just needs a little extra love and patience, Lucy is the perfect match!

Story
Terry is a dog who is still learning how to be a dog. This a medium-large young male mixed breed was first discovered running as a stray several months ago, and it took some kind strangers around a month to convince him and his friend Reba to accept their help. It's easy to read Terry's body language and pick up on at least part of his story. He walks tentatively, body crouched low, ready to spring away from any potential danger. He doesn't pull when walking on a leash because he is too scared to move fast. He paces and pants when spending time as office dog. He's interested in pro-offered treats, but he's too nervous to take them from your hand. What is most likely is that when it was most important (as a puppy), he was not around humans, or at least kind humans. However, there's lots of hope for this handsome speckled guy. He's very receptive to human interaction, and there's not a mean bone in his body. He leans into your legs when you stand near him. He's more than happy to join you on the couch, curled up tight. He even shows signs of being really interested in stuffed toys (crinkly ones are his favorite). All this guy needs is a patient and understanding home who understands a couple of things. First, the dog you first meet is not going to be the same as the dog who will eventually emerge after decompressing. Second, progress takes time and is not linear. We don't know if Terry has ever lived inside, if he's ever been around children, and how he will behave in a home environment. We need that kind and loving person to take the leap of faith with Terry in tow. Terry is very responsive to reassurance, and he's most confident when he's allowed to go at his own pace. After he's decided you're a safe person, you earn the reward of seeing more of his personality. He tends towards being clingy, checking in frequently to see if you still approve. He's at his happiest when he's on a long line sniffy walk. Overall, he's a doll who we see thriving in a home dedicated to building his confidence. If you feel called to come meet this special boy, please email adopt.ffaa@gmail.com or call the shelter at (417) 592-2512 to arrange a meet and greet.

Story
Cordelia and her companion Damien were found dumped with several other adult dogs all looking like they'd come from the same litter. Although the pups were fearful, rescuers were able to wrangle most of the group. At around 35 lbs with wispy, wirey hair and an adorable mask on her face, we aren't quite sure what her breed mix is - poodle, terrier, or something else entirely. However, Cordelia very strongly resembles a German Wirehaired Pointer - just 30 lbs smaller! Cordelia is the more friendly between the two, but some timidity remains. She seemse unfamiliar with life indoors - we expect the housebreaking process to begin from scratch. (*Note - she is getting better and better at keeping a clean kennel as her stay at the shelter continues.) She is uncertain on a leash, but she does not pull which is amazing! She is going to need a patient and faithful family to take her on, knowing that caring for an adult dog who may have never been treated as a family dog before is a work in process. Despite all of this, Cordelia is innately gentle and sweet natured. She is responsive and eager to connect with people, even if her fears hold her back a little. She loves to sneak sweet little kisses, tail wagging hard. She has a low-medium energy level, so once she relaxes, she's likely to just enjoy hanging out with you day-to-day. She's still figuring out how comfy couches are and what to do with toys, but we see her as a future couch potato and toy enjoyer once given the chance.

Story
Damien and his companion Cordelia were found dumped with several other adult dogs appearing to all be related or from the same litter. Damien is just about 35 lbs, and with his wirey, low-shedding coat, guesses for his breed range from terrier mix to a doodle of some variety. However, he very strongly resembles a German Wirehaired Pointer - just half the size! Damien's biggest struggle currently is that he is just not comfortable around humans yet. He has never shown any aggression or red flag behaviors. He is just very very uncomfortable and unsure. However, it is clear that he WANTS to connect. When he spends time as office dog, although he starts out trembling, too nervous to accept treats, and eyes darting helplessly around, he does eventually calm enough to at least no longer panic. He suprises us again and again by opting into close contact. He lays close beside the office chair or sticks right by your side during walks or even in our yards offleash. If you run in the opposite direction from him, he trots right behind you. He will not lean into your touch, nor does he run from it. He tolerates what he does not understand. But when you stop petting and give him a break, he will push into your space for a few moments. It's clear that breakthrough is right around the corner, but a kennel environment is not the easiest place for that to occur. Damien is in need of a rare and patient soul who has zero expectations for him other than allowing him to continue progressing at his own pace. If you think you're ready to take on Damien (or his assumed sister Cordelia), we'd love to hear from you. Contact adopt.ffaa@gmail.com or call the shelter at (417) 592-2512 to discuss details.
