Story
Riley is a great dog but needs an experienced adopter that knows the breed. He knows some basic commands. He is neutered. Gets along with every dog he’s ever met. He does not get along with cats at all. He keeps going after my cats and I don’t want to see them get hurt by him so unfortunately rehoming Riley is the only option. Loves kids but does jump, so I wouldn’t recommend little kids. He is very energetic and loves to run so a fenced in yard and space would be best for him. He loves playing with toys, especially squeaky toys.

Story
Pica arrived at NCCR on 4/5/25, transferred from an overcrowded shelter to give him a better chance. He is an approximately 1-year-old neutered male mixed breed weighing around 45 lbs. Pica’s DNA results are in! He is a Dalmatian and German Shepherd mix. Pica is friendly and outgoing with people and most other dogs, but can be leery and nervous with strangers when he’s out of his comfort zone (out at events, he sometimes barks at certain people and seems on-edge, but at the shelter he is usually fine with almost everyone). He’s not had much training but he walks pretty well on a leash, loves to play in the water, is high-energy, enjoys playing with toys and participating in 1-on-1 games with people. He needs a little work with housetraining, but overall Pica is a nice dog who needs some confidence building and ongoing training work put in; he will be a great exercise buddy! If you think you might be interested in adopting, your first step should be to complete an Adoption Application found at caninerescue.org. *After you have completed your application, you will get a confirmation that we have received your application. It takes a lot of time to process the applications, so we ask for your patience while we do so. If you see that the dog you were interested in has been adopted it means there were many applications for that dog and we did not get as far as processing your application before a home was found. We welcome you to apply again if you see another dog that interests you. If you have a question, please email your question to adoptions@caninerescue.org. It is much easier and quicker for us to respond by email as we receive many phone calls each day. We do adopt out of state, however we do not transport or ship dogs. Potential adopter must be able and willing to travel to the Rescue to meet the dog they are interested in. *PLEASE double check all of the phone numbers that you provide as if they are incorrect, we will be unable to process your application. Please also let your references know that someone from NCCR will be calling them. Most adoption team members call from their personal phone so advise your references that there may be an unknown number or a private number calling them. NYS Registration #RR028
