Story
Meet Roscoe! Breed: Doberman Pinscher Age: 1 Year Location: Near Edmonton, AB Personality: Roscoe is the ultimate, textbook "velcro dog" who wants to be fused to your side at all times. He is incredibly affectionate, goofy, and fiercely loyal. He is a big alert barker at home (though completely silent on walks), and he tends to get a bit overly excited and jump when meeting new people, but his heart is pure gold. Likes: Couch snuggling, any and all food (he is highly food-motivated), playing with other dogs, running wild at off-leash parks, swimming in gross water, and acting as an elite household fly and mosquito catcher. Dislikes: Spending time away from his favorite person, long car rides without his motion sickness meds, and spring-loaded wall doorstops, which he has been convinced since puppyhood are a major threat. Ideal Home: An active environment with handlers who understand the breed and won't mind a shadow following them everywhere (yes, he has figured out how to open the bathroom door). His ideal home needs a patient family willing to work on his leash manners, a kitchen with clear counters to deter his counter-surfing habits. He is not crate-trained, so this is something that will need to be worked on. ‍‍‍ Family: Excellent with other dogs, though he is very enthusiastic during initial introductions. He loves people, but due to his habit of jumping when excited, he would do best with family members who can handle his size and puppy energy. Health: Neutered and fully up-to-date on vaccines. He is prone to car sickness and requires nausea medication prior to longer drives. Adoption Fee: $500 Roscoe has been neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. All adopters must agree not to use any punitive training methods including, but not limited to, leash corrections; pinning; alpha rolls; and prong, pinch, choke, shock, or e-collars. Apply to adopt Roscoe by submitting our adoption application at https://adoptadobe.com/adoption-application/. All adoptions require a home visit and meet and greet with other pets, prior to finalization. We do not ship dogs sight unseen. Donate to Roscoe’s care at https://adoptadobe.com/donate/. ##2788067##

Story
Meet Jules! At just 2 years old (she celebrated her birthday in June), Jules has already overcome more than most dogs ever should. This beautiful Doberman came from a hoarding situation and entered rescue after her owner tragically passed away. Despite such an uncertain start, Jules has proven to be incredibly resilient and is ready to find the loving, stable home she's always deserved. Jules is a fun-loving, affectionate girl with a goofy personality and an even bigger heart. She adores spending time with her people and never says no to a cuddle. Whether she's showing off one of her tricks, proudly carrying around her favorite toy, or making you smile with her silly antics, Jules has a way of making every day brighter. She's a smart girl who already knows her basic commands and a few extra tricks, and she's highly motivated by both treats and toys, making training fun for both of you. Jules enjoys learning and thrives when she's given opportunities to use both her brain and her athleticism. When it comes to adventure, Jules is always ready! Swimming, tug-of-war, running, canicross, bikejoring, or other pulling sports are all right up her alley. She also loves a good chew session with an appropriate toy. After a day of activity, she's wonderfully content to curl up beside you or relax on her own for a well-earned nap. Jules does have a few things she's working on. She can be fearful when meeting unfamiliar dogs while on leash, and that fear can sometimes make her appear defensive. With thoughtful introductions, however, she genuinely enjoys canine companionship and loves to play. She'll flourish with an adopter who is committed to continuing her positive, reward-based training and helping her gain confidence around new dogs. She's also making excellent progress with her separation anxiety. Jules is currently doing well with her crate training, and continuing this routine will help her succeed. Because she has been destructive when left alone in the past, she'll do best in a home where someone is around much of the time while she continues building confidence and independence, and who is willing to keep her crate training current.. One of Jules' most endearing qualities is how much she enjoys being handled. She loves affection and doesn't mind baths or nail trims, making grooming and veterinary visits refreshingly easy. Jules would thrive in an active home that can meet both her physical and mental exercise needs while continuing her training journey. She would enjoy living with a confident, well-socialized dog who can help show her the ropes, but she's looking for a cat-free home. She loves meeting people and is eager to become someone's devoted companion. Jules' past doesn't define her, it simply makes her resilience all the more remarkable. She's looking for someone who will continue building her confidence, celebrate her victories, and love her for the wonderful dog she already is. In return, you'll gain a loyal adventure partner, an eager student, an expert cuddle buddy, and a best friend who will remind you every day just how powerful a second chance can be. Jules currently takes a daily medication to help manage her anxiety, and it has been an important tool in helping her feel comfortable and successful. She is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped, so she's ready to start the next chapter of her life. Could Jules be the missing piece of your family? Jules' adoption fee is $500. All adopters must agree not to use any punitive training methods. Apply to adopt Jules by submitting our adoption application at https://adoptadobe.com/adoption-application/. Please note that we do not ship dogs and all adoptions require a home visit and meet and greet prior to finalization. Donate to Jules’ care at https://adoptadobe.com/donate/. ##2779996##

BEHAVIOR HOLD - NOT AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION  Rio needs further assessment, behavior modification, and veterinary care before he will be available.  Donate toward the ongoing costs of Rio's diagnostics, treatment, medication, food, and enrichmentadoptadobe.com/donatee-transfer to info@adoptadobe.com PLEASE READ ENTIRE PROFILE! Unfortunately, applications that do not meet the criteria listed below, will not be responded to. Rio has lived in the same home since he was a puppy, and when his owner got cancer, his world was turned upside down. He was placed in a foster home briefly, but after just one night he was returned. He is a friendly and social boy, generally not reactive, walks well on a head collar, and is well behaved in the home. Here’s the honest part (and also the hopeful part)… Rio can show stress by growling and barking at the people around him, similar to a person who may lash out at their significant other when they have had a bad day or are feeling overwhelmed. Aggression does not always mean a dog wants to inflict harm, but it is how they communicate fear, anxiety, and discomfort. In Rio’s case, as long as people respect his signals and give him space when needed, he generally does not escalate beyond these initial warnings, but being able to recognize pre-emptive signs and calmly de-escalate the situation is a must. We believe some of Rio's aggressive behavior may have a medical component to it, and are in the process of investigating this. Rio will require an owner who: Is a master of reading dog body language and is not fearful of canine communication, including growling and barking Understands that aggression ≠ “bad dog” Will not threaten, punish, or try to dominate him (“Alphas” need not apply) Believes in compassion, patience, and letting a dog feel safe Can calmly back off when Rio says “I need space” Will follow a training plan provided by the rescue, including maintenance of consistent boundaries Lives close enough to Edmonton for ongoing support Rio is good with other dogs and may do best with: A small dog, or A large, calm female dogAn adult-only home is required. Rio was not exposed to cats in his previous home and ca be fearful of them, so a home without cats is best. With the right person, someone steady, kind, and experienced, Rio will have a chance to relax and show who he really is once he feels secure. If you feel that you might be that person, or if you want to learn more before deciding, please reach out. Sometimes the dogs who need us most are the ones who are simply asking us to listen. Rio is a CKC registered purebred. Although we contacted the breeder, they declined to take him back. ##2653330##
