Story
Meet Dante! Breed: Doberman Age: 2.5 years Location: Edmonton, AB Personality: Dante is a playful boy who knows basic commands and is very food motivated. He needs clear boundaries and a knowledgeable adopter to continue his training, but he is a smart and gentle guy who has blossomed into a great dog while in care.  Likes: He enjoys playing fetch, playing tug of war, puzzle toys, and running at the dog park. He loves to chew, but finding him a chew toy he can't destroy has been a challenge. He likes car rides too, mostly because they usually mean he gets to go to the dog park! Dislikes: Although Dante wants to be with his people at all times, he isn't much of a cuddler. He does not like being left alone and is safest in a solid crate. He can be a bit vocal when you first leave, but does settle down. Ideal Home: Dante's ideal family is active and committed to continued training and enrichment. They should not have small children as he's not super comfortable around them. Like most Dobermans, Dante needs regular exercise and mental stimulation or he may find other ways to entertain himself. He would love a home interested in doing fun things like agility. ‍‍‍ Family: Dante would do best with another dog in the home, preferably a female of similar size. He has previously lived with cats and has been fine around small dogs he has met as well. Health: No known issues. Adoption Fee: $500 Dante has been neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. All adopters must agree not to use any punitive training methods. Apply to adopt Dante by submitting our adoption application at https://adoptadobe.com/adoption-application/. Please note that we do not ship dogs and all adoptions require a home visit and meet and greet prior to finalization. Donate to Dante’s care at https://adoptadobe.com/donate/. ##2365579##

Story
Special Foster Home Needed for Rio – Edmonton Area Only  NOT AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION -- Although our foster homes generally get the first right of refusal when their foster dog is ready for adoption, Rio needs further assessment and training before he will be available. PLEASE READ ENTIRE PROFILE! Unfortunately, applications that do not meet the criteria listed below, will not be responded to. Rio has lived in the same home since he was a puppy, and when his owner got cancer, his world was turned upside down. He was placed in a foster home briefly, but after just one night he was returned. We don't want to put him back in a boarding kennel, so we hope that someone can help! What Rio needs right now is time and space to decompress in a calm, predictable home. He is a friendly and social boy, generally not reactive, walks well on a head collar, and is well behaved in the home. Here’s the honest part (and also the hopeful part)… Rio sometimes shows stress by growling and barking at the people around him, similar to a person who may lash out at their significant other when they have had a bad day or are feeling overwhelmed. Aggression does not always mean a dog wants to inflict harm, but it is how they communicate fear, anxiety, and discomfort. In Rio’s case, as long as people respect his signals and give him space when needed, he generally does not escalate beyond these initial warnings. Because of this, we are looking for a foster who: Is not fearful of canine communication, including growling and barking Understands that aggression ≠ “bad dog” Will not threaten, punish, or try to dominate him (“Alphas” need not apply) Believes in compassion, patience, and letting a dog feel safe Can calmly back off when Rio says “I need space” Will follow a training plan provided by the rescue, including maintenance of consistent boundaries Lives within 1-1/2 hours of Edmonton  Rio is good with other dogs and may do best with: A small dog, or A large, calm female dogAn adult-only home is required. Rio was not exposed to cats in his previous home, so a home without cats is best as he likes to bark at them. With the right foster, someone steady, kind, and experienced, Rio will have a chance to relax and show who he really is once he feels secure. If you feel that you might be that person, or if you want to learn more before deciding, please reach out. Sometimes the dogs who need us most are the ones who are simply asking us to listen. Rio is a CKC registered purebred. Although we contacted the breeder, they declined to take him back. Please read through our position statements and apply to foster Rio at adoptadobe.com/foster-application. Donate toward Rio's careadoptadobe.com/donatee-transfer to info@adoptadobe.com ##2653330##

Story
Hi, I’m Pippa!About me: I’m a total cuddle bug and have quickly won over everyone I meet with my sweet, friendly personality. I enjoy being close to my people and would love a calm home where I can relax, snuggle, and be part of the family. I’ve lived peacefully with other small, familiar dogs and have no known behaviour concerns. I’m still learning my leash manners, but I’m trying hard and improving with gentle guidance! I currently live with another 3 yr old Min Pin, a 7 month old Chihauhau and a cat who is double my size! I also live with a 16 year old foster human that I try to steal snacks from! Likes: Snuggling with my humans. Quiet companionship and cozy spots. Friendly, similar-sized dog friends. Attention from my people (I’m very affectionate!)Dislikes:Too much chaos — I prefer a calmer environmentSpecial request:I have early mitral valve disease (a heart condition) that isn’t affecting my quality of life right now, but it will need lifelong monitoring. My future family should be committed to keeping up with vet care, including periodic checkups and possible medication down the road. With proper care, this condition can be well managed, and I’m ready to give lots of love in return.Kennel trained: working on itHouse trained: working on itDogs: Yes — does well with familiar, similar-sized dogsCats: I don’t really pay much attention to them. Children: Likely best in a gentle, respectful home
