Zeus is a 6 year old male Doberman. In typical Dobie style, this boy is a velcro dog and doesn't want to lay beside you, he wants to lay ON you. He is also very much a "guard dog" and will fearlessly protect his home just like the Doberman was meant to. He came to us from a very remote community up north (you can see a bit of frost-bite on the tips of his ears, poor guy), after one of his owners passed away unexpectedly. We think he may have been exposed to some not-so-great stuff, but we think he is a great dog for the right person and deserves a chance at a new life. Zeus is housetrained and is not destructive in the house (minus one time, lol), but he will countersurf and pull things out of the garbage if he has the opportunity. We have an automatic garbage can in our kitchen that opens when you wave your hand over the lid, and Zeus quickly figured out how to get himself tasty treats by using his nose to activate the sensor. He has only done this with food garbage, thankfully. He will also take food right off your plate if you're not paying attention (so it's only ever happened to my husband ). Zeus was originally placed in a foster home with 2 other energetic dogs, 2 kids, multiple cats, and in a busy neighbourhood in the city. We quickly found out that this is NOT the right environment for Zeus. He started exhibiting reactivity towards different things, and showing some aggressive behaviors like growling, barking and snapping, at what seemed like random triggers. We have since moved him to headquarters and he is a different dog. We think that he was likely overwhelmed in such a busy household that was so different from what he was used to (essentially in the middle of nowhere). Zeus requires a benevolent owner who won't try to "dominate" him or use any sort of force or manhandling while working with him. Zeus has what is called control-conflict aggression: if he perceives that you are trying to force him to do something he doesn't want to, he will ask you to stop by growling or lifting his lips. He is not a dog you can drag around by his collar or push his bum down to make sit. When Zeus first came to headquarters, we had him drag a leash for a couple days, and we saw this behavior if we tried to use his leash to coax him off the couch to go outside or to his kennel. We quickly learned that Zeus needs to think that going outside (or back inside) or in his kennel is HIS idea. If you do not heed his initial warnings, he will escalate to using his mouth to control the situation and will leave you with a good bruise, but hasn't broken skin (again, only the husband ‍). He is food motivated so that has helped, and he is very quick at picking up routines. Now that he knows what is expected of him and at what times, we rarely see this behavior anymore. He will eat his meals in his crate, very enthusiastically, but can be left left loose in the house with no problems. Zeus currently lives with a female Doberman, a pack of little dogs, and 4 cats. Zeus can be selective and even reactive with certain dogs, but has been good with most after a controlled introduction. He actually gets along best with small dogs and needs to go to a home with NO MEDIUM OR LARGE MALE DOGS. He has been in fights with other male dogs, and we do not want to set him up for failure. We believe he wasn't well socialized before coming to us, and will sometimes pin other dogs upon meeting, so we generally introduce him while wearing a muzzle or behind a chainlink fence, paying close attention to his body language. Zeus is very good about sharing his toys and will often play tug with our Boston Terrier X. He does, however, guard the sofa from other animals when he is on it, so we would recommend not allowing him on furniture.  Zeus had never seen a cat before coming to Alberta and is still a bit scared of them. He does pretty well with our Sphynx cats who share the same space as him, but will still bark at our furry cats when he sees them through the baby gate. With that said, we feel this is more barrier reactivity and a bit of a fun game for him, as he has never tried to hurt one when in the same room as them. Despite his issues, Zeus is really a gentle dog and has great bite inhibition -- he's never purposefully broken skin on a person (to our knowledge). He does jump up on occasion and has headbutted us all a couple times when excited, but this behavior has almost ceased completely with proper management and consistency. He can also be mouthy when he is excited, but we have taught him to grab a toy whenever someone comes into the house now, and it works really well. Despite his gentle nature, due to his history and mouthiness, we will not place Zeus in a home with children. He really needs a laid-back, quiet home with an owner who understands dog behavior and body language. His leash training still needs work as he has not spent a lot of time on leash in the past, but he will walk on a head collar/halti. He does sometimes show reactivity to other dogs while on leash, so needs more work in this area as well. He REALLY loves to run and hunt mice so we think he'd enjoy some kind of scent work or barn hunt. Zeus has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and dewormed. His adoption fee is $500. Looking for a very special foster-to-adopt home for a high needs girl in the Edmonton area! Kamy is a 2.5 year old spayed female. She is a very sweet dog who loves her cuddles, but is high anxiety and has some stranger danger when meeting new people in the home. She is pretty much the perfect dog on walks, however. She was previously in a foster home as a single dog, but the foster became too busy to manage her, so she has since come back to headquarters and we have slowly integrated her into our pack. She loves going for long hikes in the river valley and is great on leash and in the car. In her original home, her best friend was a little girl, and she is very gentle around little ones, but a home without kids is best due to her specific needs (and the fact that she's an established counter surfer and food thief, lol). Kamy has the most severe generalized anxiety that we've seen in over 15 years of rescuing. Her anxiety manifests in a number of ways: she paces A LOT (it was almost constant, initially), she is a very destrcutive chewer and MUST be crated when unsupervised, her housetraining is hit or miss, and she licks herself obsessively. She currently lives with a male Doberman, 3 small dogs and 5 cats, and she is okay with them, but does sometimes pounce on the small dogs (not maliciously, but inappropriate given the size difference). She shows some resource guarding of toys towards one of the small dogs in the house (who is extremely "feisty" and who also resource guards), but has never hurt her. Kamy’s weirdest behavior is that she tends to “see” things that aren’t there and bark at them frantically if not redirected. We did test her for the possibility of narcolepsy (which could have led to hallucinations), but it came back negative. We believe that Kamy's "episodes" are related to a noise phobia or sensitivity. She sometimes redirects onto nearby objects, dogs, or humans when she is having an episode, but she has very good bite inhibition and has never broken skin on anyone. Kamy would do better in a quieter home and we think her ideal placement would be on an acreage with someone who doesn't work or who works from home. We have tried a number of different behavior meds with her over the past 15 months, and she is currently on venlafaxine and gabapentin twice daily. This combination has pretty much resolved her fear towards new people, and allows her to settle for much longer periods than previously. A few months ago she was losing weight despite being fed 7-8 cups of food per day, but has since gained all her weight back and is only eating about 4-4.5 cups per day. We are still working with a vet behaviorist to see if we can make more improvements in regard to her anxiety and noise sensitivity. We recently ordered military-grade dog hearing protection in hopes that it might lessen some of the noise stimuli around her, but it doesn't arrive for a few more weeks. We are trying all we can to save this little girl from behavioral euthanasia, but we also need to keep her mental wellbeing in mind, as her current state is not healthy or sustainable long-term. Howdy, my name is Atilla but my foster Mum only uses that when we’re practicing name attention, otherwise everybody calls me Tilly! I’m a very handsome and super smart, 2 year old, 80lb, male Doberman. I am being fostered in Vancouver, BC. I used to have a home of my own but due to a family tragedy I had to say goodbye to my baby sister and my original Mama- I lived with my Grandma for a bit before she surrendered me to Adoptadobe and my current foster Mum. I didn’t have a lot of city dog skills but I’ve been with her for a while now and we work on it every day. Our current focuses are leash manners, socialization and recall- my foster Mum is practicing for her dog training certification so she means business! I also have a bit of "stranger danger" that we are working on, and I am starting to let a few more people into my "circle" after slow and proper introductions. I am a typical velcro Dobe. I need to be involved in everything from laundry to shower time. My foster Mum says I am a really smart dog with loads of potential for a sports home if I can work through my reactivity - my arousal in the outside world was through the roof in the city because there was a person or a dog around every corner! I am currently taking Prozac to help me with this and have made tons of progress on my reactivity towards people and things, but will need an owner who can continue the work that me and foster Mum have done. I love people and I love to play with other dogs, but I require very slow and steady intros with lots of guidance. I would prefer a home without any other pets, but I have lived with a female dog of equal size in the past. I think foster Mum must be quite clever herself because I only had to bring her the ball one time and she learned how to throw it for me!  We both agree that I need a home with someone who can give me time and attention, without small dogs, cats or young children. I require a fenced yard for those days when walks and public spaces might be too much for me. I live with two cats now but I am convinced that they’re little ghosts living in the shadows- every time I see one I bark to tell everyone it’s there and then I run to get my foster Mum, but by the time we get back the ghosts are gone- my foster Mum says she wouldn’t trust me alone with them because I get so upset when they materialize in my space.  I really am the kind of dog that loves the stimulation of learning, so I would be delighted to help you out if you have a job for me. Anything that means you and I will be spending LOTS of time together is A Okay in my books. I settle well in a designated and puppy proofed room when my foster Mum goes to work but when she gets back it’s Tilly Time! I currently can’t be crated for more than 10-15 minutes, as I start to panic after that, but we’ve found a pet camera and closed off room works well. We’re still working on crating, but it’s not our top priority right now.   At my young age there is a whole world of possibility. Hi! My name is Tiberius!  I am a six year old black/tan Doberman and I am a big boy! You'll notice that I’m a little skinny - that’s because I have a big appetite and an athlete's drive, so I burn through calories like no one's business. It's a work in progress. I LOVE to run and play! I will need a minimum of an hour of good exercise where i can run and sniff each day.  I am a VERY sweet boy who needs to be with his people. I will be your shadow and follow you around everywhere. I prefer to be touching you at all times. I do have a bit of separation anxiety which sometimes translates into urine marking when left alone (I was previously kept as an “outside” dog). I don’t pee on anything when you are home though, so don’t worry. I am an escape artist and can escape from plastic and wire crates, as well as exercise pens, so if you want to crate me, it needs to be heavy duty. Lol. My foster has worked on my crate training and I happily sleep in it during the day when you are home. I also go into my crate on command when told to "go to bed.” Sometimes I will cry and bark loudly when you first leave the house, so apartment living is not suitable for me.  I know my name and will come when called if I am not too distracted - city life is overstimulating for me and so I am still getting used to all the different noises/smells. Because of this, my recall is not reliable and I should not be let off leash until my family is absolutely certain that I will come back 100% of the time. I am getting better with this though! I am still getting used to walking on a leash and will pull very hard. My foster has found that a front lead harness or a head halter is best for preventing this. Because of my size and strength, it is important that my new owners be strong enough to handle me.  I also know basic obedience and will sit, wait, down and shake if you ask me to! I am very eager to please, I just need a dog-savvy owner to help me adjust to my new life. I should attend a minimum of basic obedience with a professional, rewards-based trainer, but I would prefer a family that would take my training beyond basic obedience. I do have a tendency to resource guard toys and my favorite person from other dogs, but this is easily managed by an experienced owner who can read my body language and provide consistent routines and structure in the home. I have lived a very hard life so far - I am covered in scars, both of my ears have old punctures or splits, and I suffered a broken rib that was never treated. I can be hand shy and am very sensitive to punishment and yelling. I have had at least four homes in my short life and would really like to find a permanent home that will commit to me for the rest of my life.  Because of my energy level and size, I am also prone to accidental injury. It is STRONGLY recommended that my new family get pet insurance to help mitigate inevitable treatments that I will need.  I am good with other dogs (including most males!), though I am very active and will play rough with other dogs, jumping and pestering them to play - so I am not a good match for seniors who want to snooze all day! I am actually a good candidate for fenced-in dog parks, which can't be said for a lot of Dobes! I am good with kids! My foster has a five year old child that I enjoy being around, but this is the only child I have been assessed with and my foster household is a relaxed and quiet environment - my five year old "foster brother" respects my space and does not bother me! Because of my size, energy, and anxiety, i would not be comfortable in a household with a lot of loud, young children running around me or trying to rough-house with me.  I have not been assessed around cats but I like to chase small animals. An experienced family with a calm cat could likely help me learn to be kitty-friendly!  I like people when introduced to them calmly inside the home and I like most people I see in public. However, I am still a doberman! I will bark loudly when I see strangers near my home and I will not allow a stranger to enter the yard or home if you do not welcome them.  I am an extremely sweet, loving guy. Despite my flaws, everyone I meet falls in love with me! I hope i can find a home to finally settle down and decompress. Bruno is a sweet, young thing who turned 3 years old on Valentine's Day! He is currently located in Calgary. This poor guy has been rehomed way too many times: once because he couldn't live with cats, another time due to lack of pet friendly housing, and now because of family issues. We would really like him to go to a home that will commit to doing whatever it takes to keep him forever. Keep reading to find out more about Bruno! Likes: Fetch, Belly rubs, Snuggles on the couch or in bed, preferably leaning against your legs or wrapped in them! Kisses between the eyes. LOVES bones, very food motivated. Loves snow and doesn’t seem to mind rain all that much, especially if play time or stimulation exercises are involved.  Bruno takes tugowar *very* seriously and can be impatient and mouthy when he plays, so it is best he not go to a home with toddlers. He does really like kids and would be fine with older dog-savvy kids, he just needs some work on his manners. He has a healthy prey drive and has a history of not being able to live with cats, so will be most successful in a home without cats or small dogs. Bruno also has some barrier reactivity and will bark at people on the street or other dogs/animals, when walking on leash or in the car. This is currently a work in progress. We would recommend a home with a similar sized female dog only. He has had many positive interactions with other dogs off leash, but will react on leash or if provoked. He was previously crate trained, but has also lived in a home that he was left to roam and has never caused any harm to the house.  He loves enjoying the woods with his people and their friends.  Once a bond is established and recall is good he is great off leash and loves to adventure but never goes far.  Knows all basic commands.  A very loyal and sweet companion. He is very goofy, adventurous and a great partner to spend time with. He gives the sweetest kisses!  He is a gentle giant and will wiggle his way in to cuddling harder and closer any opportunity he has.  House trained to be left for the day if working and greets you adorably when you get home. Very well behaved in the house! He is energetic and would play any time if the opportunity presented itself, however he loves a relaxing day of cuddles as well.  Bruno has been neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated.
