Story
You can call me Ziggy, Ziggy Zag, or Zippty Ziggy Zag because I will answer to any of these. My foster mom gave me the extra names because I’m always zipping all over the place. She says that I am an exuberant Doberman, whatever that means. I came into rescue a few weeks ago and have been hanging out with other Dobermans on a large farm and some new humans. Sometimes new humans coming into the home scare me. I like to bark and make sure that everyone knows that I’m on the watch. My tail is wagging while my mouth is talking and saying hello in a unique way. My former family got divorced and no longer had time for me. I’m 16 months old and as you can see, I am an all natural Doberman. My tail is kinda fun to chew on and wave around in the air to show off to anyone who wants to see. Other dogs and I get along really well. I do chase cats and haven’t caught on yet. If you have a dog savvy cat, maybe I can learn to behave better around them. And I love kids. They love me and when they’re my size, I do get a little excited and twirl around. I might knock one down, unintentionally. I would never hurt them. I forget how big and strong I am. I am good on a leash, love car rides and have learned to sit and wait for my dinner and treats. My former family took me through obedience school and frankly, I could use a refresher course and be taught personal space boundaries. I really, really, really love to curl up on a human’s lap and sleep. I know how to sleep in a crate as well. Housebreaking me has been a challenge. I think I finally showed my foster mom how it works. My ideal family would want to take me places and do things with me. I want to see the world!! If they worked and taught me how to do either agility or catch a ball, or frisbee, I am down with that. I need a good bit of exercise and have great recall off-leash. I want to run, run, run and then play, play, play. Remember, I’m still a youngster who has a lot of things to learn and a lot of love to give. I will need a fenced in yard to run around in!

Story
Toby, born 3/23/23, came to rescue for an all too familiar reason. A family got a puppy thinking the older dogs would like having younger puppy energy in the house but they rarely do. Toby is the typical velcro boy, always wants to be touching you. He is crate and house trained. Loves his toys and so far doesn't destroy the stuffed ones. Toby knows basic obedience commands and does well with leash walking. However he can be a bit timid on his walks so he needs to be shown the world isn't so scary. Toby loves to play with other dogs, maybe a bit too rough sometimes so he needs to be supervised. If you have a dog savvy kitty he will be ok with that but if kitty runs so will Toby. A game of chase is only fun for the dog, not the cat. Toby tends to feed off the energy in the household—whether it's another young energetic dog or young children. For the safety and sanity of the whole family, maybe not best suited for a family with very young kids. Toby will need a home with a physically fenced yard.

Story
Louise joined BDR with a sad but familiar story. Owner moved and can't (or won't) take her. Always disappointing to hear but their loss is someone else's gain. Louise is 4 years old and LOVES people. She takes treats nicely and has manners, except leash manners those need working on. That just means Louise is excited to take a walk! We were told Louise lived with other dogs and cats but we have not cat tested her ourselves. She plays with other dogs but a bit forceful so she will need a confident owner to keep the play time in check. Also a doggy friend that can handle her dobie play style. Louise will need a home with a fenced yard.

Story
Winthrop is a super sweet, super cute 1 year old guy (born 6/3/22) that gets along w/other dogs and people, even if it doesn’t sound like it at first, it just takes a minute. He is a “special” guy, but doesn’t know it. He just lives life w/a smile on his face. His Momma must not have been ready to be a mother because she picked him up by the head and shook him. This has caused him to have some neurological issues and some quirkiness, but he still has a bounding zest for life. Literally. He will playfully bound off the couch or bed with joy when playing w/his foster brothers. Bound across the threshold of the door, because that’s fun! He either bounces or prances or sneaky tippy taps or has a lovely extended trot wherever he goes. Also due to his neurological issues, intentional movements and body control are hard and as a result he bumps into things, falls over (when trying to scratch), flails around a bit, weaves and leans (even more than the typical doberlean). While all the above can make for some super cute antics it can also make for some hazardous conditions for young children or anyone suffering from their own stability issues. Winthrop knows sit (although sometimes he forgets which end is supposed to be on the floor), wait, go to your room (for going to his kennel), and is working on lay down (he knows it but, gets squirrel brained) and leash manners. Winthrop is a little vocally bossy and will tell you how it is or how he thinks it is in that quirky brain of his. He can get a little extra about it. Meeting people and dogs, car rides, and people or dogs coming near his crate triggers this little quirk of his and he would benefit with work with a trainer or behaviorist to help him be a better version of himself. Winthrop loves to cuddle, but it takes him a minute to find that perfect spot. He loves a good chew bone and a Kong filled with yogurt. He loves to wrestle and snuggle w/his foster brothers and will pass toys back and forth between them. Winthrop is like a little Weeble, Leaping Larry, Dobby The House Elf, Sid The Sloth, Tigger, Wreck It Ralph, Jim Carey all rolled into one and all he wants is a sweet loving family w/a fenced in yard and a pillow on a bed or couch to prop himself up on.
