Story
I am a shy, but sweet girl, looking for a nice quiet home to call my own. It takes me a little bit to feel comfortable with strangers, but once I know your not so scary, them I'll start purring and begging for pets! I was originally adopted from HAHS when I was a little baby, and sadly my family recently returned me. My family said one of the kitties in the home wasn't using the litter box, and they told the shelter they believed it was me and they didn't want me anymore. Since I have returned to HAHS I have not had any issues with using my litter box. The shelter also ran some medical tests just incase there was something more going on, and those tests all came back clear. My shelter family told me that maybe my previous home became to stressful for me or the other kitty in the home, causing one of us to develope the bad potty habits. My shelter family says they feel a nice, quiet home will be best for me, as they believe it may have been a stress related behavior. If you're willing to give a sweet girl like me a second chance, please stop in and meet me!

Story
Vader arrived at the shelter in July of 2023...a good samaritan brought him in after discovering he had been dumped at a barn. Vader was severely matted upon arrival....with a lot of brushing & care....Vader is now a very handsome fella and is ready to find his forever home.Vader is a relatively large fella...weighing in at just a little over 16 pounds (he says it's all fur and to keep the Temptation cat treats coming lol). As you can seen he is also very handsome...(but he already knows that he says). Vader is a fella that knows what he likes. He likes attention in moderation and is not a huge fan of being picked up. He likes to receive attention on his own terms and he will let you know when he has had enough attention by pawing at you. To sum it up...Vader has "catitude"....but we love that about him. If you like a sweet cat with a side of spice than Vader is your man! Vader likes to spend his days hanging out in his communal cat room and lounging around. He will occasionally play with a feather toy and he will show affection by brushing up against your leg. Vader doesn't seem to mind cats at all as he currently resides with some other kitties. If he is placed with children they would need to be older (10+) due to Vader's side of "spice". Vader also requires a home without dogs. Interested in adopting Vader? Please stop by to meet him any day between 12-4pm. Adoption applications can be found here at the shelter, on our website, or you can email us for one.Website: www.spcaallegany.orgEmail: spcaallegany@gmail.comPhone: 585-593-2200 EX 2

Story
Joyful Rescues is considering Tom to be a sanctuary kitty with us.  It's not that he is feral as are the other 6 sanctuary kitties here that live in the basement, garage, outside, with cat doors open 24/7.  Tom is a friendly kitty, but he seems really elderly and it also seems that he has lived a rather rough life and likely mostly, if not all, outside.  He was not neutered until he arrived....maybe his playboy days were over so he decided to find a nice retirement home as he invited himself to live here.  Whether one of the other cats showed him all the doors or he found them himself is a mystery, but he's not the first kitty to simply appear in our basement.  He was afraid of us humans at first, but warmed up quickly once he realized he was safe.  Tom is very happy here and hangs around the humans when outside.  We have noticed that his eyes seem 'weepy' and his breathing is audible.  Other than this he seems healthy for his age and has a good appetite and gets around just fine.  Just an absolute guess maybe he was born in 2009.  Would we welcome an adoption for Tom?  Yes, as long as we felt he would be happier there than he is here. A cat can live 12-18+ years if cared for properly. Be sure you are able to care for it for its lifetime. The ADOPTION FEE:  There is no fee for Tom. YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 21 YEARS OF AGE TO ADOPT A CAT FROM JOYFUL RESCUES We keep our pet list as up-to-date as possible. As soon as a pet is adopted, it is removed from the list. If a pet is still showing, it is still available for adoption. Story
How is it that Bathsheba has been with us for ALMOST a whole year?!?!?! (We are honestly really surprised at this one because she is so sweet and beautiful!) Bathsheba is an absolutely stunning cat! Her pictures really don't do her any justice and we'll have to try and get better ones I guess... We've nicknamed her "the beautiful woman" because she is such a pretty lady! Bathsheba is now about 1 year old and, although she is a bit shy and a little skittish, she will very quickly turn on her purr for you if you give her some scratches under the chin. She is a really nice cat and just needs the right person to give her a chance! Bathsheba loves to be brushed and will allow herself to be held when she has gotten comfortable with you. She will also roll over onto her side or back pretty quickly which shows that she is actually quite friendly! She is a tad socially awkward but is very well loved by other cats and kittens! Bathsheba is a stunner with a silky-soft coat that is guaranteed to attract plenty of attention but she really needs someone who is willing to give her patience, love, and time to come out of her shell in a new, forever home! (YES, SHE WILL ABSOLUTELY BE SHY UPON MEETING HER but we know that, with the right person, she will make a very sweet and BEAUTIFUL pet!) Bathsheba needs to go to a calm home so we are not recommending a home with young children. Bathsheba will have been spayed, is up to date on vaccines, dewormed, flea treated, FIV/FeLV/HW tested negative, and microchipped! Interested adopters can submit an application by contacting HobosHome2020@yahoo.com or by sending us a message and we will send you the necessary form! ***Bathsheba has made a very close friend while in our care, Tiger Lily, another female cat that is close in age to her! It would be perfect for them to find a home together as they are a bit of a bonded pair. If you are looking for 2 cats that get along great, please consider Bathsheba and Tiger Lily! We are willing to waive their adoption fees if it helps them find a home together.***
