Story
All AHHS animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations before adoption (if species appropriate). Application and counseling is required prior to all adoptions. Individuals interested in adopting a puppy are STRONGLY encouraged to download and read this FREE ebook. Even if you've raised puppies in the past, this is an invaluable resource to help make your new addition successful!   This big, senior boy is Gandalf. He came to the AHHS from a cruelty case in Sullivan County. Gandalf came to us following a cruelty case in Sullivan County, TN. Given all he's been through, we do try to give him some grace. He was tried in a home with other cats, but it has been determined that he would prefer to be your one and only. He's very content just lounging around with little activity.   He's a large cat; roughly 15 pounds. He does not enjoy being picked up, likely due to his size and insecurities. He's really a neat fella once he warms up to you. He will gladly come over for pets and love but will walk away when he's had enough. With his age, I couldn't see him being the destructive type as he certainly has not been while in his large cat condo at the humane society. However, I cannot guarantee his behavior once in a home environment.    We do allow what is called a "trial adoption" for adult cats which we believe would be a good option for this fella. This allows you a week or 2 to see exactly how he's going to do in your home before committing to adoption.  Please contact Halee for additional information. halee@ahhumanesociety.org or apply online at ahhumanesociety.org. Individuals interested in adopting a puppy are STRONGLY encouraged to download and read this FREE ebook. Even if you've raised puppies in the past, this is an invaluable resource to help make your new addition successful!   Meet Tonka! Tonka is a very special girl. She has a condition called Cerebellar Hypoplasia. What does that mean, you might wonder? Well, this is a condition in which the cerebellum of the brain fails to properly develop. Our cerebellum is responsible for helping us keep our balance, hand-eye coordination, and controls our fine motor skills. Given that Tonka's has not properly developed, this means she is wobbly and uncoordinated. Please don't worry, as she is not in any pain. This is not a painful condition, nor is it contagious to other animals.    Tonka is in a loving foster home that supports her every step of the way, and we are finding that she is a very resilient girl capable of overcoming any obstacles in her way. Though this is an untreatable condition, she is thriving. She is clumsy, yes, but she is expected to live a pretty normal life as long as she is provided a little extra TLC. Things like elevated food bowls, rugs and carpeting to assist with grip and traction, and moving items that she could easily fall from or trip over really help her out.    Tonka is 1.5 years old and has been spayed, vaccinated, combo tested (negative), dewormed, microchipped, and is on monthly flea prevention. She is a very sweet, loving cat that enjoys snuggles and hanging out on the couch with you watching TV.  Although experience with "CH cats" will not be required for adoption, we will be very particular as to which family she goes to. We want to make sure her future family does all the proper research and are committed to and ready for such a special cat.    If interested in learning more, email Halee@ahhumanesociety.org or complete an adoption application on our website at ahhumanesociety.org.  February 5, 2025, 5:22 pm

Sassy is a senior and deserves a safe, loving home to live out her golden years. Sassy came in with her adopted brother, Shadow, and the two are very bonded to one another. We'd love to see them adopted together so that they don't have to be separated after suffering the stress of being brought to a shelter so late in life. According to Sassy's foster mom, she is the epitome of an old lady and enjoys the simpler things in life. She's most content with napping, birdwatching, and watching television. She is a sweet, loving cat that prefers her naps to be at the foot of your bed, your chest, or on the couch. Her brother brings out the best in her, and they definitely balance each other out. If interested in meeting Sassy and Shadow, please visit our website at ahhumanesociety.org and complete an adoption application via this link: https://www.ahhumanesociety.org/cat-adoption-application/ or email Halee@ahhumanesociety.org with any other questions.February 6, 2025, 4:44 pm

Story
Paul is a very sweet and handsome young man who has been fantastic with the younger cats as well as the older and special needs cats. The only ones he does not get along with are Batman and Fang who is not up for adoption. Paul is a real go with the flow kind of guy. He came to the rescue as a surrender because his humans were scared of covid.
