Story
We have made the very difficult decision to find a new home for our cat Jack. He is a seven year old, neutered, black and white, short hair domestic cat, who has recently been to the vet. Our vet has recommended it would be in his best interest to be rehomed. He is a very stressed cat, due to the change in our family dynamic over the past two years with the introduction of our two young children. To make the situation more challenging for Jack, our female cat has become very maternal and attacks Jack when he comes around us and the kids. He is a very affectionate cat, who craves companionship, but during the day, he feels safest hidden away, only to come out in the evenings when the children are asleep. In August, Jack received an annual examination and vaccinations. They did a complete blood count, an fPL test and fructosamine test, all of which has come back clear. We are hoping to find an older couple or individual with no pets. Willing to travel to bring Jack to his new home!

Story
Meet Salamander! A 4 year old female black DSH that has been at the shelter since February.Salamander is a shy girl who hides for long periods of time. She is independent and and typically does her own thing. She is still learning to trust people and be confident around them and would do best with a home that can be patient and continue to work with making her comfortable. She would do best in a quiet and low commotion home. She has not yet been dog tested but would likely prefer a calm, quiet house without one. She has come from a home with other cats and might be comfortable and come out of her shell more with another one in the home. She would do best in a home with no children or quiet children 14+ due to her shy nature. Staff are still working with her to get to know her personality and help her blossom. All animals available for adoption at HSHPE have been vaccinated, microchipped and spayed/neutered, and have been treated for internal/external parasites.Adopters will receive a $25 gift certificate from Ren's Pets and a pet care booklet from Pet Valu with coupons worth up to $300. Cat adoptions will also receive a coupon for a free 7LB bag of World's Best Cat Litter from Ren's Pets. Story
Meet Desna, a 3.5 year old brown tabby DSH that has been at the shelter since March!Desna came into the shelter as a stray who was not claimed. She is a very sweet but quite timid girl who takes a bit of time to warm up to new people. She would do best in a quiet, low commotion home so she can settle and feel comfortable. She may hide for a period of time at first, but once she warms up she is a sweetheart and loves attention, leaning into your hand while having her head pet. We recommend a home without other cats. She has not been dog tested but this can be arranged with an approved application. Having a shy demeanor Desna would do best in a home with quieter older children 10+. Staff are still getting to know Desna and her personality. All animals available for adoption at HSPHE have been vaccinated, microchipped and spayed/neutered, and have been treated for internal/external parasites.Adopters will receive a $25 gift certificate from Ren's Pets and a pet care booklet from Pet Valu with coupons worth up to $300. Story
Meet Fern, a delightful adult feline with a heart full of affection. Despite her cerebellar hypoplasia, Fern doesn't let anything slow her down. She's a bubbly spirit, brimming with love and playfulness. She enjoys a good game of chase the feather, and her cuddly nature makes her the perfect companion for cozy evenings. Fern's condition requires special care, but her sweet disposition more than makes up for it. Her infectious joy and resilience can brighten up any home. Fern would like a home where she is the only feline but would likely settle with a calm canine friend. She will require some modifications in her home to keep her safe when her wobbles get the best of her! A separate room with no hazards is a must. Ferns foster mom is more than happy to talk with potential adopters about the modifications Fern will require in the home. Story
Meet Newton, a 5-month-old DSH. If you are looking for an energetic kitten full of personality, Newton is your boy!Newton is a very busy kitten, so have many toys ready for him. He is full of love, cuddles, and so many purrs! Newton is very good about using a scratching post and gazing out the window on a cat tree. When he has tired himself out, chilling in front of the tv and falling asleep on you makes his day. He enjoys getting up early in the morning to greet you and remind you that its time for breakfast!Newt LOVES attention and snuggles, especially cradled like a baby.He will race into a room and jump into your lap as if he hasn't seen you in ages even though it's been 5 minutes. He sleeps on the bed at night and purrs if you wake up and give him some pets.Despite growing up with siblings, Newton seems to want to be on his own now. He has developed a very dominant personality. Newton has had experience living with a small dog, but would only be recommended to a home with no other cats. Of course, this should always be done with a proper slow introduction. All animals available for adoption at HSHPE have been vaccinated, microchipped and spayed/neutered, and have been treated for internal/external parasites.Adopters will receive a $25 gift certificate from Ren's Pets and a pet care booklet from Pet Valu with coupons worth up to $300.
