Story
Meet Vida Boheme! Just like her namesake, this queen brings beauty, charm, warmth, and pure love everywhere she goes. Vida is a 15-year-old, 20-lb Dachshund mix with a gentle spirit, a snowy white face, and a devotion to her people that would make Miss Vida herself proud. This Vida’s ideal day includes naps, snacks, couch cuddles, and following her humans from room to room like the loyal little shadow she is. She’s fully house trained, walks politely on leash, and has low energy, grooming, and exercise needs. She doesn’t love the crate, but she’ll settle if she must—though she’d much rather be tucked in beside you for bedtime snuggles. She gets along with dogs, cats, and respectful children. She has a little bit of resource guarding tendencies and may snap at another dog when they get too close to her treats. Because she whines or barks when left alone or separated, she’ll do best in a home without shared walls. What she wants most is what her namesake taught us all to give: love, kindness, and a place where she can simply belong.Health-wise, Vida is on the cusp of developing Cushing’s Disease. She’s not on medication now, but her adopter will need to monitor symptoms and stay on top of vet care. Should treatment become necessary later, it typically runs about $80–90 monthly.Vida’s most special trait is the way she looks at her people—with the same softness, loyalty, and heart that made Vida Boheme unforgettable on screen. She’s a tender, affectionate soul who just wants to love and be loved. She also loves giving kisses If you’re ready to welcome a gentle, devoted senior queen into your home, Vida Boheme is waiting to grace your life with sweetness and style. Dogs are not placed on a first-come, first-serve basis. We strive to find the perfect home for each animal. Applications may take up to 48 hours to process. All CAWS animals are fixed, microchipped, and vaccinated. Her adoption fee is $100. Story
Meet Ruben HumphreyRuben Humphrey is a 10-year-old poodle and terrier mix weighing just 14 pounds, with soft white silky fur, a jaunty curly tail, and the joyful energy of a dog who feels far younger than his age. After coming to CAWS as a stray from a local shelter, Ruben has truly blossomed into a loving, affectionate companion who delights in his people and his daily adventures.Ruben is the kind of dog who makes you feel special. When he sees his human, he lights up instantly, hopping with excitement and leaning in for cuddles and attention. Once he bonds, he becomes a devoted little shadow who wants nothing more than to be close to the person he loves. He is incredibly sweet, deeply affectionate, and happiest when he is near his people.Despite being a senior, Ruben has impressive energy and curiosity. Walks are one of his greatest joys. His happy zig-zag trot and enthusiastic pace bring a sense of fun to every outing and make even a short walk feel like an adventure worth savoring.Ruben has made remarkable progress in his foster home, especially with resource guarding. With consistent routines, clear boundaries, and calm support, he has improved tremendously and continues to grow every day. He will do best with an adopter who is comfortable maintaining structure around mealtimes and continuing the thoughtful management that has helped him succeed. He enjoys the company of other well-known dogs and plays well with his foster siblings, both large and small. Ruben does best with dogs he knows and trusts, as he can get nervous and even feisty when he comes across a new (and therefore frightening) dog. He would thrive with a confident, friendly canine companion who enjoys play and social interaction.New people can make Ruben a little unsure at first, especially in his home, but he has shown great progress here as well. With gentle reassurance and a bit of patience, he settles quickly and is soon ready to show off his affectionate, charming personality. Once he feels safe, he connects deeply and wholeheartedly.Ruben loves being near his people and is learning that his crate can be a cozy, secure place to relax. He has not been cat-tested yet other than cats he meets on his walks. If you are looking for a snuggly, devoted companion who has already done so much growing and is ready to keep building confidence in a loving home, Ruben Humphrey may be the perfect fit. To meet this delightful little dog, please fill out an application at www.caws.org/adoption-application.CAWS does not place animals on a first-come, first-served basis. Story
Meet Hazel, the dachshund mix who is officially the cutest girl in town! This loyal sweetheart is a former farm dog who is ready to trade the pasture for a cozy pile of blankets on your couch. Hazel is the ultimate adventure buddy for an active, outdoorsy family that loves long walks, but she’s also a professional napper who prefers to sleep in late whenever possible. She is a total angel who loves giving kisses and cuddle. In a typical hound nature, she does use her voice to let you know when there are people nearby. Hazel is a healthy eater who loves snacking on hot dogs, cheese, apple slices, broccoli, and strawberries, though her heart truly belongs to cat kibble! Because of her high prey drive, she is looking for a cat-free home, though she has previously done well with goats and chickens. She’s been a brave soul while recovering from a forehead infection, taking her medicine like a champ. Since she’s transitioning from life as an outside dog, she’ll need a patient family to help her continue mastering her house training and to learn what toys are good for chewing. If you have room in your heart (and your pillow pile) for a resilient, veggie-loving girl, Hazel is ready to meet you!
