Story
Breed: Dutch Shep X Age: 4 year Weight: 46 lbs Housing: Detached home, townhome or apartment Health Status: Spayed, vaccinated, dewormed and microchipped, has arthritis in left front foot but no treatment needed. Skona is a lovely and gentle girl with a reserved nature. She can be shy at first, but with a little time and reassurance she opens up beautifully. Once she trusts you, Skona shines and she brightens in the company of her favorite people, loves gentle affection, and happily plays fetch. Skona tends to be hesitant when meeting new people while in her kennel, but she shows much better on walks or in the exercise yard, where she feels more relaxed and confident. She has a balanced energy level: enough stamina for walks and outdoor adventures, but also content to curl up for a quiet day at home. With other dogs, Skona has been okay with most at the shelter, though she has a few she does not get along with. She would benefit from being a solo dog but could maybe have dog friends. She has not yet been cat tested, but staff will be working to complete that. Training Needed Skona doesn’t need extensive or advanced training—what she needs most is patience, consistency, and gentle reassurance. Building trust at her pace will help her continue to gain confidence. Slow introductions to new people and animals are important. Continued socialization, obedience refreshers, and positive reinforcement will help her settle into her new life and strengthen her bond with her adopter. Ideal Home Skona will thrive in a calmer household that respects her sensitive nature. A home with no young children—or one with older, quiet, respectful teens—would be the best match for her, as loud noises and sudden activity can be overwhelming. If there is another dog in the home, they should be well-matched in energy and temperament, and a meet-and-greet at the shelter is recommended to ensure compatibility. Skona will need a family willing to give her time to decompress, settle in, and grow comfortable at her own pace. In return, Skona offers loyalty, sweetness, and a “go with the flow” attitude—whether you’re taking a peaceful hike or enjoying a cozy day indoors, she’ll be happy simply being included. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ready to Apply? Story
Meet Apolo – The Loyal, Gentle Shepherd Mix Looking for His Forever Home! Apolo is a 2-year-old Dutch Shepherd mix weighing about 50 lbs. He’s currently being fostered in Mission, and meet-and-greets can be arranged for families who’d love to get to know this wonderful boy. Apolo was found wandering the streets of Guadalajara, Mexico when he was just a young pup. Trying to survive on his own, Apolo was scooped up by our rescue partners and taken into their care. In July, he flew to BC in search of his happily ever after! Personality & Temperament: Apolo is incredibly loving, loyal, and affectionate. He enjoys relaxing beside his people, happily greets them with a signature “hug” when they return home, and loves showing his playful side with games of catch, chewing sticks, or interacting with toys. He has also been gentle and kind with children he’s met. Training & Home Life: House trained: Mostly, with just a couple of “excited accidents” that improve with reminders. Sleeping routine: He has a room with a comfy bed and toys, but likes to snooze near his humans when they’re home. He occasionally wakes briefly at night for food or water, then quickly settles back down. Separation: No anxiety—he does very well when left alone. Commands: He already knows sit and stay and politely waits for permission before taking food. He’s very responsive to treat-based training. Leash & Outdoor Adventures: Apolo would be a great match for someone who loves outdoor adventures! Off-leash, Apolo is fantastic—sticking close and checking in often. He very much enjoys his off-leash time, running around and chasing his ball. Apolo is still building confidence on leash. He may pull, get jumpy with loud noises, or freeze in large crowds. With gentle redirection and affection, he settles down, but an escape-proof harness is recommended to keep him secure. Other Pets & Socialization: Dogs: Friendly and social—he enjoys play if another dog invites it. Apolo would do great in a home with or without a fellow dog to romp and play with. Cats: Very curious about his foster’s cat, sometimes a little too forward, so supervised introductions and managed spaces work best. However, no aggression with cats. People: He warms up quickly and shows his sweet, respectful nature. Why You’ll Love Him: Apolo is the kind of dog who will be your best friend and playmate. He has the perfect mix of fun, affection, and respect. He’s also been wonderful with children, always gentle and kind during interactions. With ongoing guidance on the leash and patience as he builds confidence in noisy settings, Apolo will thrive and bring so much joy to his forever family. Location: Fostered in Mission Age: 2 years Weight: 50 lbs Breed: Dutch Shepherd mix If you’re looking for a loyal companion who’s as loving as he is playful, Apolo is waiting to meet you! VETTING: Fully vaccinated Neutered Dewormed SNAP 4Dx negative (Heartworm, Lyme disease, Ehrlichia, and Anaplasma) Flea/tick/heartworm prevention No known medical issues or injuries PLEASE NOTE: Apolo is currently fostered in the Mission. Meet and greets can be arranged! ##2219482##
