Hi, I’m Cleo
I’m a 5-year-old, 50 lb Dutch Shepherd looking for my forever home in Vancouver.
A little over two months ago, I arrived at a California shelter as a stray. I was microchipped, but sadly, no one ever came for me. I tried my best to cope with shelter life and participated in playgroup 18 times, where I was always described as tolerant with the other dogs.
Then, simply because I was barking in my kennel, I was placed on the euthanasia list.
Thankfully, some wonderful volunteers had fallen in love with me and knew there was so much more to me than my kennel behaviour. They fought for me right up until the last minute and managed to save my life.
I’m safe now, but I’m living in a boarding facility and really need a home of my own.
I’m a calm, gentle and affectionate girl with low-to-moderate energy. I can be timid at first, but I warm up quickly. I’m lovely on leash, ride beautifully in the car and have a playful side, especially when there are stuffie toys around.
So many people fought to give me this second chance. Now I just need someone to give me the forever home I was saved for.

Basic training should be taken seriously but should not begin until your dog is well settled in - at least a couple of weeks. After you feel your new dog is relaxed and comfortable in their new home check out training courses in your local area. Even basic beginner courses like those taught at a local pet store can have a huge benefit in helping your dog learn to socialize and get used to being in public situations, all with the added benefit of strengthening their bond with you.
The age and breed of a dog is usually an educated guess, so we are not able to guarantee the accuracy of age or breed of our dogs.
Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. However if the dog is shown to be good with children we will approve homes with children 8 years or older. More information can be found on our website.
While most dogs find escorting passengers flying directly to Vancouver, some will find flights through Toronto or Montreal. In that case, additional fees will apply to fly your dog to Vancouver by cargo. Unaccompanied cargo costs within Canada range from $350 - $550 depending on the size of the dog. LALDR will be as transparent as possible with you regarding these costs. You will NOT be charged the passenger fee in addition to this.
[MID EAST DOGS] *Vaccinations: Dogs from the Middle East are vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper, leptospirosis, adenovirus type 1 and para-influenza. Bordetella is not given, as that has not been a problem in the Middle East.
