Story
HI -I'M NOMI! I'm a 3-year-old stunning Dutch Shepherd-Pittie mix in need of a foster or forever home. My name means "beautiful" and "delightful"! I was rescued from a shelter, and now am waiting patiently for my people to find me. I am gentle with people, though can be a little stubborn, and friendly with most dogs, though I can get jealous at times. Even though I play with other dogs in my current location, I would probably thrive as an only dog where I could get all of the attention, or have a submissive male as my canine pal. I weigh 62 pounds. Can you foster or adopt me? Please email for an application.

Ashley is a beautiful and sweet 10 month old Dutch Shepherd/staffie/chow mix. She is extremely sweet and still a little shy of new surroundings. Ashley would benefit in a home with another dog and she would be great with older children.

Story
Update! RJ had his enucleation surgery and is so much happier. He’s even more playful and affectionate than he was before the surgery. He’s a really terrific boy who is lovable, brave, resilient and so smart!  RJ is a seven year old Dutch Shepherd mix. He was found wandering on the mean streets of South Los Angeles by himself, and taken to a high kill shelter. We pulled RJ out of the shelter to give him a chance at a good life. RJ has PRA (Progressive Retinal Atrophy) and cataracts and is blind. He doesn't let the lack of sight affect his quality of life, and is a happy guy who finds his way around just fine. This brave boy is only hesitant about one thing: traffic noises. RJ has a surgery coming up to remove both eyes because he has blown up a case of glaucoma in both eyes. He will be much happier, and pain free afterwards. He'll be available for adoption as soon as he is completely healed. He's a very affectionate boy who really doesn't ask for a lot, but he sure does like belly rubs and cuddle sessions. He enjoys every meal, and loves the raw bone-in treats that we give him every day. He's content to make himself comfortable on his big cushy bed, and will alert to sounds that he's not familiar with. We always announce ourselves when we greet RJ, and he always has a nose to the air - his other senses take over for his lack of sight. He knows every bush and tree on his walks, and likes going out for short adventures. He likes car rides, too. We guide him with our voices. We're searching for an owner that knows that sometimes dogs that aren't perfect CAN be perfect. RJ is always cheerful, gentle and doesn't know a bad day. He learns very fast when taught, too. He greets every day and person with a smile on his face. He's a really amazing spirit. If you would like to meet this remarkable boy, please complete an application for adoption: www.deafdogrescueofamerica.org/adoption-application.htmlApril 17, 2024, 12:04 am

Story
Have we got a Dutch treat for you! This silly, 16-month-old boy (as of July,2023), might have had a rough start to life, but man-oh-man is he ever making up for lost time! After spending a couple of months behind bars at the Devore Shelter, Dutch hitched a ride on The Rescue Train and has been making his foster mom laugh ever since. Dutch recently completed a training course at Corcha Balanced K9 and came through with flying colors! This boy is the physical embodiment of “everything, everywhere, all at once”! Are we going for a walk in the rain—yay! Are we playing chase with our canine foster sisters—yay! Are we going for a ride in the car-yay! Are we just gonna cuddle on the couch—well, you get the idea. There’s really not much that Dutch doesn’t enjoy, and his enthusiasm is contagious! Because of his working breed background and high intelligence, Dutch is a fast learner and very eager to please. We think he’d do best in an active home, where his zest for life will really shine. A canine companion would be great, but as long as he has doggy friends, it’s not a deal breaker. So whaddya say, wanna go Dutch? -- If you are interested in adopting DUTCH please fill out our adoption application by clicking this LINK. Story
Blitzen is a 2-year-old, 60-pound curious and affectionate boy looking for his furever home! Blitzen was hit by a car in November 2022, resulting in a broken right leg. He’s healed up well according to the vets, but still walks with a limp and would do best with short walks and hikes. Thankfully, his leg doesn’t seem to slow him down when it comes to playing with other dogs, one of his favorite pastimes! Blitzen currently lives in foster with another dog and is FULL of love and happy puppy energy. He is eager to please and responds well to structure and consistency from his humans. He’s already crate and potty trained and is working on his leash skills. Blitzen has been through a lot and is ready for a permanent loving home. To learn more about Blitzen or to set up a meet and greet, please email his current foster: chris.bachman@calstatela.edu

Breed: German Shepherd X DOB: 11/2011 Gender: female Altered: yes Coat: long Size: large Color(s): light tan / black Description:Hi, I'm Roxy, a beautiful German Shepherd X who is in need of a new home as three indoor cats are coming to live in the home and I am not good with cats. I also do not get along with other dogs, small animals or birds. I need to be your one and only.I enjoy my hips scratched, my chest rubbed, daily morning walks (I use a harness.) and Pupperoni treats. I don't care for biscuit treats much. I seem to like people and children as long as I don't feel threatened by them. The 4th of July is not my favorite holiday as fireworks scare me.I know people will pass me by due to my age and all the things I don't care for, but I hope there is someone who will see me for the special dog that I am. Please fill out an online application if you want to meet me.April 24, 2024, 2:03 pm

Thankfully CARL has accepted me into their adoption program and will help me find a new home. I'm good with children and people, but skittish with other dogs. It's unknown how I'd do with cats. I've had formal training and know basic commands. I enjoy playing fetch and snuggling. The best home for me would be with older children and as the only dog. If you're interested in meeting me, please fill out an online application to meet me. *Thank you to Sharon for sponsoring this wonderful dog at the Burnice Kraemer Sanctuary and giving her the chance for a better life.
