FIREFLY NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME WITH A WELCOMING RESIDENT DOG AND NO CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 12!!!! Name: Firefly Best Guess for Breed: Feist mix Best Guess for Age: 4 years as of February 2023 SEX: Male Approximate Weight: 15 lbs Gets Along With: Firefly does well with other dogs and needs to go to a home with a welcoming resident dog. He hasn't been seen with cats but can be tested. Because he is shy, we do not recommend him for a home with children under the age of 12. Currently Living at: South Carolina shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get his freedom ride up here! Special adoption considerations: Firefly is a truly Lucky Dog! He tested positive for Heartworm disease but has already been treated! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. We are happy to talk more in depth about heartworm disease and treatment during the screening process. Firefly had an old injury to his right rear leg. In April he underwent surgery to ease his pain and increase his mobility. Additionally, Firefly is shy and needs to go to a home with a welcoming resident dog to show him the ropes. Because of his shy personality, we do not recommend him for a home with children under the age of 12. Firefly is Looking For: His forever family! He hasn't had the easiest time of it lately but has firmly closed the book on that chapter. He's eager to have extra patient and loving adopters who will help show him a great new life at his pace and a welcoming resident dog who will show him how to dog. His ultimate goal is to trot through the world with all the confidence of a well-loved dog; his top priority is to know he's under his own roof, safe and loved, every time the sun goes down. In exchange he promises adoring gazes and loyal companionship and all the love he's saving up in the shelter. What do you say? Will you be the one to give Firefly the soft landing he so much deserves? What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once he has arrived in the DC area and spent some time with his foster.
